I guess I’ll reveal the meaning of the red bean pastry in Japanese. So it’s kind of a weird joke about girls finally starting puberty through getting their first period. Yes that’s why Yamada mentioned red bean pastry when discussing Ichikawa’s voice changing. Not a lot of people talk about it, but this episode shows how intimate and deep Ichikawa and Yamada are able to discuss about their fears and weaknesses. It’s some very good dialogue helping Yamada understand herself better. Not to mention Ichikawa is able to dive into things he himself would never talk about with other people. Lastly Yamada’s mom was in her leggings because she took off her work skirt. That’s why she panicked in the middle and rushed in Yamada’s room without finishing to change clothes.
Random fun fact, in latest episode of the boys (ep5) MM used the same line he used when we first met him in sn1 about Butcher being a mf with a heart . (I know I know…not the time and place)
In Japan people celebrate with red colored rice. So when girls hit puberty, they do that it as well while there is no celebration when boys hit puberty. Japanese love tai aka red snapper because it is red, by the way. That's why one of Japanese favorite snack is taiyaki.
