    owner enjoyed that more than anyone, so good to see. First time I took my miata nd to track was also completely stock except racing brake fluid, pads were standard. very doable and still tons of fun.

    I had a Mk1 1.8 Eunos with torsen LSD, Meister R coilovers and AD08r's on, with rollbar. Was amazing, slow as hell but so engaging and great fun, easily one of the best cars I've had, great memories

      I’ve got a mk3 cammed 2.5ltr torsen LSD, Meister r coilovers and AD08Rs. Few other mods aswell. Handle is amazing and with 200bhp and 270nm it’s not too slow

    Thrashed a number of NA and NB on track and had an NA for daily use for a couple of years. they handle great and you can really dominate the chassis. however as you noted they lack ultimate grip or power. anything with any power leaves them for dead, except when you carry loads more speed through the apex. compared to things with more modern grip levels (even the mr2) they can't compete. you really don't want to crash one hard either

    A mk2 1.8vvt with an lsd and decent tyres are great fun and capable. Bucket seat bolted to the floor and a hard top will probably give the extra space tall folk need.
    Providing it’s not rotten like most are these are some of the most fun you can have on the road under £3k I reckon.

    • @TomoHawKzZ
      @TomoHawKzZ ปีที่แล้ว

      Even rotten you can get a hold of most panels for peanuts and with a bit of time cutting and welding isn't the most difficult thing in the world.

    • @odfkjdhgovj
      @odfkjdhgovj ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TomoHawKzZ I know what you’re saying. I’ve welded a few mx5s.. 2x rear quarters, 2x sills and 2x end plates will run you £4-500 these days, front chassis rails plates for the mk2s are another £80 of you can’t be arsed making some. Most folk can’t or don’t want to learn to weld. Then the cost of labour + paying someone to paint both sides is enough to put most folk off.
      If you can do it all yourself it’s great, if you have to pay someone to do a proper rust repair and someone else to paint it you’re already over what a decent mk2/2.5 is worth. Hence why most of them end up scrapped or choked to the brim with filler and rattle can paint. Fine for a track car if you have no care about structural rigidity but my original comment was about road driving really.

    First time I went out on track with a passenger in my NA Miata, their added weight caused the brakes to fail quite spectacularly. Luckily the straight had a decent run off area for me to use, while my pads and rotors were billowing smoke lol

    As fun as stock mx5s are coilovers and good tyres with a torsen lsd (don't think this had) are night and day changes. Got one with a torsen and it locks up immediately. Should drive a modified one next but glad you enjoyed it, even if it was sketchy haha

    • @dannyDC2

    Unbeatable fun per pound spent - and unlike mg TF etc you can be confident you’ll be able to drive home after the day too. Obviously it would be faster with suspension / brakes / lsd / tyres etc but if spending that money you can buy something ‘better’. If I had the space I’d have a ropey one parked up for salty winter trackdays in a heartbeat

    Bloody love mx5s! So much fun on track. That nb probably has a fuji clutch type lsd, they can get knackered and stop working. The torsen types from the earlier cars only stop working if they go full bag of rocks, so they're a bit more desirable.

    • @dannyDC2
      @dannyDC2  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Haha no way did it have a clutch type LSD. Most likely just didn’t have one as some comments have said.
      Can’t imagine anyone would fit a clutch lsd to a totally stock car. Not in the uk anyway

    • @TomoHawKzZ
      @TomoHawKzZ ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dannyDC2 mk2 MX5s came with 3 different types of LSDs over their life, torsen, super rare fuji (clutch) and a shit VLSD.

    • @seany8787
      @seany8787 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used to have one of these, anything thats 1.8 mk2 came with some kind of LSD. However 03+ cars went from a torsen type 2 diff to a fuji diff.
      Fuji diffs use small tabs to exert pressure on a clutch which locks up, ( from memory) - they were meant to be a bit more progressive.
      Unfortunately by now all the tabs will have sheared off and the diff acts like an open diff which explains why you think it doesnt have one. It will, but its goosed.
      Pretty sure theres a fella who rebuilds them an sorts out the issue or just do what I did an put a mk1 or mk2 torsen in.

    • @nehok
      @nehok ปีที่แล้ว

      @@seany8787 yeah, what Seany here said. I've seen people describe the fuji as a clutch type, im not sure how it compared to a proper aftermarket clutch type lsd. My nb is torsen so I haven't had to be too clued up about fujis. The vlsd was only on the mk1 1.6s I believe.
