  • he first edition of The African Baobab was published in 2007. Since then, the taxonomy of Adansonia digitata has been questioned, several huge old trees in Southern Africa have died and advances have been made in dating technology.
The demand for baobab products has massively increased, particularly for the white, vitamin C-rich powder, and trees continue to serve as shrines for the healing of body and mind.
In Kenya, the export of huge trees to Georgia on the Black Sea caused a major furore and meanwhile, young baobab trees become ever-harder to find, throwing doubts over the long-term future of the species in many parts of its native range."
