    Beautiful cupcakes! I also only use palm shorting, but I am a hobby soaper for now. I never thought to get my palm from a restaurant supply? I have gotten mine at the store for $7. For a 1.5 lb tub! It is organic but for me that is not a must. I would be so thankful if you brought us along on a buying trip! Thank you I love you video's.

      This recipe is listed in my course under intermediate recipes (Lesson 6.1) I do have about a dozen that I have published for free, but some are for members. That said, if you use 30-40% fresh palm shortening with a base cold process recipe you will likely get a pleasing result. Everything after that is just tweaking....

    I agree about the sustainability of Palm oil these days but my main concern about using it is the way the Palm Industry is still affecting the Orangutans and their forest homes. I'm still not going to use Palm oil but thank you for sharing your tips! I would love to see a video of how and where you buy your bulk oil supplies.

    • @ThermalMermaid
      @ThermalMermaid  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree about the orangutan problem. I know this is still a serious threat and has been an ongoing issue despite the plantations in Borneo and Sumatra being labeled "sustainable". I have heard that the global food forum has been putting pressure on this part of Indonesia to solve this problem. You could source Palm outside of these two locations where there are no orangatans - by calling the company to see where it comes from. I think the driving force is the oil being used as a biofuel, but there is a tremendous amount of awareness these days and that in itself creates changes. Great comment!

  • @longarmsupplies
    @longarmsupplies 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    So lard isn't hard enough to use(instead of the palm oil)?

    • @ThermalMermaid
      @ThermalMermaid  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can do this. The lard will typically give you a softer/smoother texture than the palm, but if you bring it to a medium-thick trace you can pipe a nice frosting, just look at your other oils to see that the recipe is balanced. (Lard is one of my favorite to work with.) If you use too much palm shortening the entire recipe can pipe too crumbly.
