- Greatest dunk in #NBA History? Best of Doctor Julius Erving’s career? Probably both. There’s no doubt that it’s of the most recognizable by any generation of fans.
With the 2021 NBA Slam Dunk contest upon us, what better time then to have the man who slammed it down the face of the dude hosting with him? Michael Cooper was considered a high flyer among dunkers. Coop was also a top defender in the NBA.
But this day, Doc made sure Coop becomes a fixture on hoops fans walls, posterized for all
Of basketball eternity. Haha.

A truly great man. Absolutely one of the classiest players of all time. Loved seeing him play, in person and on tv…coming from a lifetime Celtic fan.
I can't disagree doctor is the epitome of class dude is who we strive to be
Everyone wanted to like the Doc. Watch the videos of thousands watching him at Rucker Park. He was the man. No one posterized like the Doc. My basketball hero. Thanks Doc
One of the greatest spokesman for any sport! Doc was as smooth as silk! The ultimate tomahawk dunker in NBA history!
Its awkward to see Coop friendly and smiling. He played with such an edge.
Doctor J has a great sense of humor; always fun to listen to him.
I met Coop when I was playing in the NBA Summer League way back when it was at UC Irvine. Super nice, really cool guy. Great to see him doing good things with this show.
I met Doc 6 months ago and all I could say was thank you!!!
Little surprised that Bobby Jones wasnt mentioned a lil more...Bobby posterised coop also off a pass from Doc. Plus was such a class act
We have to bring doc back on to talk Bobby, Cheeks, etc. Lots to cover.
The ORIGINAL Micheal Jordan. I hope you take that
as a compliment Doc. I used to love watching you play
and the Coop was smart to just get out of the way !!!
Your the greatest Doc J. Thanks for the memories.
jbg54 ..."The ORIGINAL Michael Jordan?" The latter wasn't even around!
John Mackey was the original " Beast Mode" with the Baltimore. The man was simply the best Tightend to EVER lace the cleets up. "Cronk" always has the best interviews and the REALIST.
DR. J is the only NBA PLAYER/ATHLETE/ENTERTAINER/ROLE MODEL poster that my Brother and I had on our bedroom wall. So I guess I can say I woke up with the Doc every morning .
Great interview! First time I met Dr J. 1980 at the forum in his limo. We were all waiting to see all the players come out , and I met a woman who was also waiting , somehow we start talking about New York City where I’m originally from and she told me she went to HS with DR J. and knew him pretty well. Anyway, when Dr J. Comes out in his limo they began to chat a bit and she introduced me as her friend and he was very warm to me which is one of my fondest childhood memories.
A Doctor and a gentleman!!!
I saw Doc in the ABA dunk over Gilmore and Issel when they were on the Kentucky Colonels that may have been his best dunk, same year Ollie Taylor at 6 foot 2 dunked savagely over Gilmore
Love seeing these two competitors have admiration and respect for one another - considering the Dr. had one of the greatest in game dunk of all time against Coop.
Dr. J is easily the most gracious man to play in the NBA. What a great player and man, a true role model.
An Excellent Interview !
It was a pleasure watching these great players in their hey day.
The ABA had the coolest players. Sideburns, fros, stack heels and that Red, White &Blue balls. Them dudes could ball.
great league,a fun game, the ABA was missing great centers otherwise they were competitive with the NBA ,outside of Gilmore,Issel was a forward at that time,Billy paultz and an aging Mel Daniels that was about it
NBA in the 80s wow, so many great players
Maaan! What an all around class act. So humble. If you didn't know you'd probably think he's high school teacher or an accountant or something.
My dad used to luv watching the Doc play me and him sitting there watching the DOC ...a true Man and obviously one of the best EVER
No way Doc is 71. One of my all time favorites.
Try 74 this coming year
He was born in 1950....
Hey Doc, when I was about 18 I tried to replicate that dunk (but jumping off a sawhorse) and messed up my shoulder for 2 months.
The Dr. is a class act. This is a great interview, thanks!
All the amazing hours of excitement you guys provided fans is awesome ! Love of the second phase of your careers , the interview tours about the inside stories
Another thing that’s truly impressive about that dunk on COOP was “ he didn’t just dunk over some nonchalant guard 💂♀️ COOP was one of the better defensive players in the league “ now that’s impressive! HOLLA 🤙🏿 !
Great interview!! Live Dr J!
The athletes of their era were respectful of each other, which explains why many of them, even in retirement ,have generally good bonds ,& had decorum in the field/court. Even as they do awesome things& spectacular plays, they just rush back down the field/court without any theatrics & looking 4 the camera self-gratification,etc..miss those kinder days abt our world!
Great show really entertaining
My favorite player of all time the doctor Julius Erving #32 # 6 🏀
Would have liked to have heard Coop & Doc talk more about those intense battles between the Sixers & Lakers and that very fierce, 3-way rivalry with the Celtics in their day.
Also, CBS Sports used Grover Washington Jr's "Just Once" to accompany a production they did about the Sixers' elusive pursuit of the NBA title - 3 Finals losses in 6 years. As I recall, the "Just Once" piece was during their 3rd finals loss. The Sixers got Moses the next offseason and won it all his first season in Philly.
Great interview! Love your podcast Coop... and that is coming from a 80's Celtics fan! Thank you for the great content you bring every time!
There were so many great players back then, and they were ready to destroy each other in a game, but now that they are older, those emotions are all in the past ( except for the hatred of Lambeer, of course), and the truly greats all loved their sport, and have fun remembering their time there now.
Wow, 27 point 20 rebound averages in college. I would have loved to watch that!
Aaron Frank ...I saw it! Speechless!!!
Big fan from Toronto 🇨🇦
I saw Dr. J in the airport in Atlanta 2 decades ago, and i froze. Up until that point, i thought i would never act like that around celebs and athletes, but he walked to baggage claim, i froze. He was dressed to the 9s and smooth just like i imagined. Dr. J!
The Doctor!
I met him at the Mirage in Las Vegas. My hand looked like a kid's hand when he shook my hand.
I've been a celtics fan for over 50 years..an I still say..the celtucs 76ers.
Were the best rivalry..iver the lakers..we played the 76ers. A lot more the twice a year with the lakers. Those games with philadelohia..were just plain ruthless. Two very evenly matched teams. 76ers. Were the reason the celtics were so tired goin into tge finals.n vice versa..
Very cool
Where's the LOVE Button??? How can I smash that one! Doc was in town the other day, but I can't play myself hanging around a Hotel or something. As a rule, I never speak to Celebrities when I see them. I'd certainly like to thank Doc for everything he's meant to me and to the Game. Peace.
I grew up in the 80s born in 77 and even i realize dr j should be argued as neck and neck with mj. Hes argubly the besylt to ever play
DOC!!!!!!
Coop! Is part of the greatrst. Breakaway dunk in the history of the game. Doctor j"s. Break away dunk. Over coop. The poster!! Of posters!!!.
That dunk on Walton was nastier.
Roosevelt New York
Julius Erving
Johnny Green
And my cousin John Mackey
In.
Larry Kenon Dr K
Dr J my favorite all time player.. But my question is when Dr J mentioned all his kids is he including the girl who played in the USA open tennis final? The daughter he had from an affair while he was married?
Doc may have dunked all over Coop but Coop has 5 Championship Rings. Doc has 1 NBA ring and 2 ABA rings. But Dr. J was the shit.
