the sad thing about dementia is that getting really bad doesn't kill them. it just kills who they are. it just leaves them confused and scared and angry. but alive. I've seen people live a long time like that. its really sad. (and the care they require is very expensive)
My guess is (I don't remember that part of the episode that much) some kind of percussive therapy to help loosen the secretions in the baby's lungs to make it easier for him to cough them out and breath better. Hospitals do something similar with adults.
