“It’s not just about being willing to take out others, but also to kill the parts of yourself that might hold you back” 🤯 wow that was an amazing way to frame it. And it shows you EXACTLY why it was never going to be any of the kids. They constantly shoot themselves in the foot but never in a strategic way that could actually propel them forward.

It wasn’t obvious who should succeed in Succession because Logan deliberately held them back to be as childlike and incompetent as possible not to be overthrown prematurely and they be under his control… But as death is inevitable, in the end he leaves not one but four inept “princes”.

Yes! I remember making the Godfather/Succession parallels after watching the first few episodes of Succession! I saw Logan as Vito, Shiv as Michael, Kendall as Sonny and Roman as Fredo and Geri as Tom Hagen.

What's even hillarious is just when we think Kendall is going to be Michael, he becomes Fredo again and again.

Have you ever considered that men should never teach kindergarten. Because what kind of parent would leave their young child alone with any man?
I have autism. It's not my fault I say these things.

There are people who seriously think that Tom is a role model because he seems to “win” in the end of Succession.
But in my opinion, I think that none of the characters in this show should be a role model for anyone, not even Tom, Matsson or Logan, who are the “winners”. The system is broken to begin with. Someone who tries to win it will slowly but steadily has their soul corrupted (I mean, Shiv is not a good person in anyway shape or form, but Tom is willing to sell out his own wife to Matsson both figuratively and literally just to become Matsson’s lap dog is so disgusting and pathetic).

Even when you refuse to play the game, some jerk tries to pull you back in it. Like college refunds; they exist to purely trick you into confessing something you DON'T have?!

I think Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul took a lot of notes from Michael's transformation in addition to homages/steals from Godfather 1 and 2.

For Saul and Jesse, yes. But for Walt, he was waiting for permission to be a terrible person... and cancer gave him that permission.

Yes! Vito really loved his family. He as a child understood that the only way to assure that your loved ones are safe is for you to HAVE the power (he lost his father, brother and mother because of the lack of it). I think Michael understood that when Vito got almost killed and that's the reason why he decided to get into the mafia business. But power, as Shakespeare always warned, is a sickness and is bound to tragedy.

My favourite film trilogy, and my favourite TV show. I definitely have a liking for dysfunctional families who get roped up into shady business dealings.

Tom only won because, and I hate to give a meta answer, the writers decided to give the dumbest ending that they could've.

smart folks and weirdos gotta stop honoring these narratives in public. like love it privately but 80% of people will never examine what's really happening and they just go "walter white is so sick, michael/the roys/jack torrance was so sick"
