  • A lot of people have shown how to remove the rear bench in a Volkswagen GTI, but not many show how to remove the upper seats. So we decided to film a video on how to do it!
    We were in the process of filming a Butt Dyno Report video about weight reduction when we ran into this conundrum. Hopefully this video proves useful to the VW community!

    Nothing like having a “ good tug” in the back of your car. 😂
    But seriously, great tutorial dude, I’m gonna do this myself. 👍🏻

    You're a mind reader! I've been thinking about doing this for the summer and I assumed there would've been tons of videos on it, but now I'm glad to know there's at least one on it. Thank man!

      Omg too funny! You can find the bench removal all over the place. So we wanted to add a video of the upper backs as well.

    Thanks for the how to. I used this to help me reinstall the seats that I had taken out about 4 years ago. The bench cushion was the most difficult to get back into place, but I was eventually able to coax it in.

      Glad to help! The bench was for sure difficult to get back in, especially those clips. Not my favorite design.

    I knew how to remove the bottom, just never did about the back rest. Thank you 🤘🏼🤘🏼

    With a LPFP acting up 🙄. This was an ideal tutorial to get the bench part of seat out. Ty from the 🇬🇧🇬🇧

    Mad props. Fantastic lighting and video work too. I wish all technical walkthrough videos were this good.
    Any idea from the ol bicep scale of how much they weigh?

    • @TheParkingLotMechanic
      @TheParkingLotMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, I really try! And I actually got it all on a scale, and it was about 130 pounds (spare, seats, etc.). Just the seats were probably 90 pounds.

    If the plastic tabs are too difficult to come out on the back section.. especially the outer tabs of the seat, I found it easier to lift the bottom section first to get more leverage.

    Was there a bracket along with the 8mm triple square bolt because my seats just pop out now after reinstalling them 😅 3:59

    Hi, I just replaced my regular GTI interior with leather, and your vid helped a lot with the backseat. I was wondering what that horizontal bar is that you have in the back?

    • @TheParkingLotMechanic
      @TheParkingLotMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the ECS rear interior brace! Helps stiffen the car to reduce body roll. It's actually quite lovely! Here's the link to it: bit.ly/3g3en41

    Do you know if the GTI seats are a plug and play for the same model/gen on mk 6 TDI

    • @TheParkingLotMechanic
      @TheParkingLotMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว

      I think they would be. May need some fiddling but since it's generally the same car just different engine (and some body pieces), I can't see it being too different.

    Do you think Jetta hybrid will have same easy access?

    • @TheParkingLotMechanic
      @TheParkingLotMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว

      At the very least it will be similar with a very close use in parts and bolts. Can't say if it'll be the same but it's probably similar.

    Thank you for the video, just wondering is there any harness connect to the rear seats?

    • @TheParkingLotMechanic
      @TheParkingLotMechanic  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the lower harness point is located right at the break in the seats. One 13mm triple square bolt if I am not mistaken.

    Are you able to just remove the back of the seats and leave the bench part in place ? I’m thinking of doing this on my mk7 golf r but leave the bench in place until I can get some flooring for it and just remove the back of seats from the rear ???

    • @TheParkingLotMechanic
      @TheParkingLotMechanic  ปีที่แล้ว

      You might could be able to. Maybe try skipping to the upper seat removal section and see if you can get at the bolts from there. You may have to remove to lowers to get to the bolts (can't remember clearance off the top of my head), remove the uppers, and put the bench back in afterwards.

    Got the black clips out of the bench and now I’m stuck. Can you do a video that shows what you’re doing and what you’re pulling

    • @TheParkingLotMechanic
      @TheParkingLotMechanic  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Totally can! Quick fix is the swiftly pull up on the ends of the seats to undo those clips and on each extreme rear side of the bench: push in towards the center then back then up and out. Should come right out!

      12mm triple square if I remember correctly!

    • @kian-jay
      @kian-jay ปีที่แล้ว

      it’s not a 12mm or a 10mm like he said in the video. both are too large. 8mm is too small
