About John Amos: Amos played the loving father, James Evans, for 61 memorable episodes of "Good Times," a role that showcased the complexities of Black American family life. He also portrayed the older Kunta Kinte in "Roots," a pivotal role that brought attention to the harrowing history of slavery. Beyond acting, Amos had a brief but notable career in professional football, playing for the Kansas City Chiefs after his college days at Colorado State University.
Throughout his career, he advocated for authentic representation of Black families on television, pushing against racial stereotypes in the industry. His commitment to social issues extended beyond acting; he served in the 50th Armored Division of the New Jersey National Guard and was honored as an honorary master chief of the United States Coast Guard.
