    I forgot to mention to those who don't know which pump to get, you can call any Jeep dealer with your vin number and they will tell you what size tank you have to get the right fuel pump.

      There's different size tanks??
      This seems like a great time to upgrade to the largest tank possible

    A quick couple points to raise that are not in your video. #1: under the hood, along the fuel rail that your injectors are connected to, you will find what looks like a tires valve stem with a cap. Remove the cap and you'll see the Schrader valve. Use a blunt tool and depress the little stem in the valve tube. This relieves the pressure in the fuel system. If you don't remove the pressure, you could get showered with gas when you remove the fuel line from the tank.
    #2: it's noteworthy to mention that the " tin can" on the top of the fuel pump, is your fuel pressure regulator. That's why it had that vacuum line connected to it. In many cases, that regulator is your fuel delivery problem....not your pump. Many times, the vacuum line will be compromised by a hole or split in it. Always take the added effort to do a pressure / vacuum test on that line and potentially save yourself a lot of grief. Word to the wise and the novice, buy your replacement pump as a complete assembly as mentioned in this video.
    Good vid!

    I like that this is actually a 98 TJ unlike many of the vids from the search. It’s important to get the gas out of the tank before doing this and remove the relay in the fuse box. You also want to clean around the fuel pump to avoid letting dirt get in the tank. The relay should be replaced with the pump and often does come with it.

    Thanks for showing the best way to get the fuel pump assembly ring loose! With the tool I had I couldn't get it to budge.

    Man at least you could’ve blow the top of the tank with shop air or wash the tank before removal.

    Well explained and edited! Thanks for the entire video and especially about the hidden nut by the exhaust. I was also going to take the fuel filler line apart the wrong way. My Cherokee has tank straps. I only saw what appeared to be straps across the top is that correct? The "skid plate" as I call it is all that holds the tank in? At any rate this is the best video on YT that explains this! Once again many many many thanks!!!

      Mine only had straps holing the tank in place.

    • @TEXAS-SMITH
      @TEXAS-SMITH 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Okay thanks. My tank cover or "skid plate" as I call it seems to be the only thing holding my tank, so the tank straps have rusted away then. Just bought it and needed to know if I had to order straps also because I got one side loose last night except the two long screws you said didn't need to be undone, and the tank dropped quite a bit. It's rusted out and I can't see straps. You're the bomb my friend!!!

    A: did the old one not have a sock on it?? I didn't see one when you pulled it out. B: I'd have cleaned that top before allowing dust and crap to get into my tank. 2¢

    Dude this video is awesome! It really saved my bacon. I've got a question for you, as I am quite new to auto mechanics and everything and anything that I've done to my Jeep is what I've found from TH-cam. When you put that nut back on to secure the pump, was it difficult? The hardest part of this whole project for me was getting that damn nut to seat and screw back onto the pump. Is that just me or is it difficult for everyone? Thank you!

      If you're not using the correct tools or using a chisel like myself, then it's easily the most difficult part of replacing a fuel pump for a jeep.

    Awesome vid. How would I go about emptying the fuel in the tank? I have about 3/4 of a tank full of gas. Another thing is do you think I would have to remove the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch to be able to drop the tank? Thank you

    @vinm3630 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You forgot to blow all the dirt off so none falls into the tank.

    Did you have to remove the muffler to access the tank?

    • @JonnyBarajas
      @JonnyBarajas  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The tank is only being held by a few brackets and come right off. The muffler is more towards the middle of the jeep away from the tank.

    • @1881Speedy
      @1881Speedy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I need to replace mine as well. I just don't know which one I need and where to get it form

    • @JonnyBarajas
      @JonnyBarajas  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are two different tanks, and would need to figure our which of the two sizes you have. If you have a 4.0L engine then it is most likely have the bigger tank size which requires the bigger fuel pump. Once you have established which one you need, I would call around your local auto parts places. I just remembered I bought the fuel pump assembly at my local auto parts shop; Autozone, Pepboys, O'Reillys, etc. but not sure which one. It was around $100.

    • @1881Speedy
      @1881Speedy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the 4.0. I just don't know which to get because I don't want to buy the wrong one.

    • @JonnyBarajas
      @JonnyBarajas  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just ask for a fuel pump for the 4.0L, there are only two sizes to choose from and one only fits the 4.0L.
