You also need to concider the fact that a lot of soldiers lot of times may not necessarily shoot to kill, especially in point blank range. Only if they have been trained to shoot before thinking then these wont help

As funny as the editing is, there is indeed some usefulness. I'm looking into self-defense and there is a large percentage of crimes happening via ambush. Even if your weapon is holstered, an attacker right on top of you can pose significant problems in getting to it and having a clean shot. People who DO conceal carry get taught unarmed combat. An armed person does in fact need space and some arm mobility in order to get a shot off.

Knives are only for use when you run out of ammunition or you need to move undetected but are to be used when you have either a stealth-related or severe physical advantage (such as being able to tackle them while they are unarmed) over a hostile target. If you can get the drop on that target, good on you. Don't try to rush someone with a bolo knife from ten feet away because they can just move backward while shooting at you.

His techniques only work on paper. But when you've got an actual opponent, fear, stress and nervousness will stop you from actually slapping your opponent.
Your opponent also knows that he's got a ranged weapon: he won't stay in place, he'll most likely run away and shoot after securing a safe distance.
