What do you think of the new March of the Machine Team Up Commanders? Are you planning on building any of them? Are there any synergies or combos that we missed?
I've been a fan of the show ever since I got back into commander a couple years ago, but I have to say Rachel is such an incredible addition. Not only is the natural chemistry palpable, but she brings a fresh but well rounded perspective, and I really appreciate how much of a priority budget seems to be for her. Keep on!
When they first showed them, I really didn’t care about Hide/Kairi or Inga/Essik, but y’all made them sound really fun lol these team ups are the main reason I’m excited for this set tbh (tho saga praetors are also neat)
Jimmy: there are 19 total team up commanders, we can't cover them all in one episode, nor would you watch that episode Me: *YOU UNDERESTIMATE MY POWER*
What's mentionable about Ghalta and Mavren is that the dinosaur they make is tapped and attacking, but the vampires are not. So Ghalta is more offensive and Mavren is defensive. Also you forgot to talk about Rhys the Redeemed :D
i actually built hidetsugu and kairi, and i wanna mention cards like Teferi's Ageless Insight. your commander is basically a pondering mage whose etb you'll trigger constantly so doubling your draws gives insane card advantage. big reanimation spells are great too. i also wanna mention that Feign Death effects put triggers on the stack exactly how you want them (etb resolves first, then death trigger)
Ragavan Planeswalker... Well... You know?? I think I'd take one! Except it has an ETB where target opponent exiles the top card of their library, Ragavan gets a number of loyalty counters equal to the Mana Value and you can play it until the end of your next turn.
I don't think that Inga and Esika want to have a mass of Mana Dorks, but instead you want either mana dorks that tap for more than 1 mana and stuff that can untap themselves/make more bodies. I think you'd much rather have a 3-mana creature that replaces etb draws a card so you can keep your foot on the gas or has a good effect until you find whatever win-con you wanna use.
They don't want mana dorks, they want a wide board that can cast multiple creatures a turn. Plus draw synergy. 3 cost creatures, draw triggers, and creature synergy.
@@Hemlocker not really. I'd much rather having mostly cards that cantrip than a quick start that can leave me with less gas later on. What I'd run, most likely, is the cards that tap to put a land into play that cost 1 or 2, and a 3-drop that can help me hit the floor running is Elvish Spirit Guide. There's also space to run heavy into artifacts with stuff like Mirran Spy and Grand Architect (I think. The one that taps blue creatures for two mana to cast an artifact) so I could be persuaded into running some mana rocks, but overall, I'd go hard on the 3-drop and above theme.
The build I made for the Goro goro and Saturo deck was balls! Basically play all of the ball lightning like cards, which lets them hit and exchange themselves for a 5/5 dragon. Some extra combats and such make the deck work even better! The deck is called Dragonball Z!
I'm surprised Scroll Rack didn't get more of a shout-out in these decks! Several of them really like top deck manipulation and hand fixing. I love it in my Abaddon The Despoiler deck.
I'm surprised you didn't mention Adeline's power for Ghalta and Mavren... If you go wide and have creatures (or equipment or auras) that get bigger for each creature you control, you can switch into making big trampling dinos if the situation requires. Not too often you'll need to, but big tramplers and more small ones have a very similar effect of "damage will get through, blocks be damned" Goro-Goro and Satoru -- why the focus on things with haste and granting it? You can give your things haste whenever you want for 2! Sure, better if you don't have to, but...
If you kick rite of replication on hidetsugu the order of events doesn't occur the way you described. The spell will resolve creating 5 copies. 5 etb triggers go on the stack. Before they can resolve, as a state based action you choose to keep your commander and all the others die. 5 dies triggers go on the stack. When you copy hidetsugu, the dies trigger resolves first, then the etb. Still good, but a bit less control of what's on top unless you can manipulate the top of your deck at instant speed.
I built a Hidetsugu and Kairi deck with the idea of creating copies of your commander and letting the legendary rule kill the copies. I was happy to see that my ideas were similar to your own. The deck is fun, but only takes one time before your opponent's catch on lol.
For Goro Goro and Satoru you also have the option of delving into some nice dragon synergies. Kolaghan the Storm's Fury can be dashed every turn and give your dragons a good buff that can one shot someone if you have 3 5/5' into play Silumgar is great for clearing the enemies board Ganax can create treasures whenever you make tokens Scourge of Valkas can buff your dragons and deal damage whenever it or another token enters Firkraag has haste itself and can goad creatures Archwing Dragon is a 4/4 for 4 haster that can be used every turn because it goes back to your hand at the end of a turn And of course, Utvara Hellkite makes tokens just by having dragons attack Also something cool is that you can use arcane adaptation and crucible of fire to make everything a dragon and plus 3
Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded seems like a great include for Djeru and Hazoret and Zirda may be too for Purphoros at the least but affects Aggravated Assault too.
YAY! Thank you for the tips on Errant and Giada. I've been loyal to playing Blue White with my fliers deck as its my first deck and I've been trying to find a way to make it work as a control-ish fliers deck. So basically the goal is to slow down and control the board enough and prevent any dmg coming my way meanwhile pecking the heck out of my enemies with fliers. At first I thought maybe this card would be just a GREAT addition to my deck in order to get some card advantage (I had been using Kangee, Sky Warden because...he's awesome and that flavor text is too good) but as for actually effective application in a Commander game...Errant and Giada would make for some powerful plays seeing as I already have like 30 flying creatures in my deck (with a variety of control or other ETB or passive effects) and thus! I should be able to make some great use out of the checking the top card of my deck and then playing it. Already put Vega, the Watcher into my shopping cart :) yay more birds
Thanks guys for this episode! Feeling a little overwhelmed with the team-ups, but would love to have the proficiency to build a working Baral and Kari Zev deck :D
I'm pretty certain the Ragavan token created by the OG Kari Zev, Skyship Raider was also called First Mate Ragavan, he's been haulin' since he was printed!
@@Arohan71 she’s cool and all but they also have like 20 other people they could bring in too. I mean like DJ, Day[9], ladee, Mr.Infect, etc… I do like Rachel a lot but I feel like there’s a bit of verity missing. Not everyone plays like her or jimmy but I feel like having jimmy or Josh on board with different co host could open a lot more doors. I mean if we’re talking infect then naturally bring in Craig. Third time's a charm on Command Zone I'm sure! Random unfact of the day: Heraldofwings is a common Irish lastname and is pronounced "eye-MAID-this-up"
I plan on Building Shalai and Hallar from the double commanders. Probably Heavy on a Modular theme. I wanted to build Modular Marchessa a long time ago, but a Friend beat me to it, now I get to have a list of it with a different take that's unique.
With Ghalta & Mavren (played 7 games over the weekend with it) I’m finding that a mix of low drops (vampires) and big drops (dinosaurs) is more ideal than going all big. I haven’t tried an all small lineup because I want the big Dino tokens. After the first night I replaced 7 dinos with 1-4 drop vampires. Still running 20 dinos, but the addition of the vampires helps me maintain a board state until I get my commander out
With Ghalta and Mavren the dinosaur comes down tapped and attacking but the vampires DO NOT. There will be times that you want the vampires, even if just a few, as blockers for the crack back. While you could build around one or the other, I see it as an offensive and defensive mode. Definitely going in my Ghired deck!
I know it’s expensive but Wren and Six has gotta go into the Borb and Flip deck. Return the lands you discarded back to your hand every turn? Yes please.
Your next episode is the one that'll show the commanders I'm going to play - Slimefoot and Squee, as well as the new naya angel pair-up that deals with +1 counters.
Moraug doesn't actually work with Hazoret, because it doesn't give you another main phase. Without that extra main phase, you can't cast creatures because they have to obey timing restrictions. Moraug ONLY gives you an extra combat step, and then it goes straight to your end step.
I’d love to see a game where people allow “partner”-ing the commanders that are teamed up here and watch a mirror match of the new team up version and a partner matchup. Like, how does Thalia and Gitrog MoM play against Thalia and gitrog being partnered. Just the first thing I thought of when I saw the new team ups.
@@pajurr Well, being CEDH doesn't always mean the commander is good in a more casual environment, depending on the rest of the build. And they're far from the only partners.
Goro-goro: You didn't mention first strike / double strike. If you have a mix of first strike and can hit players with both regular and first damage, you get 2 tokens.
uuuhhh Djeru and Hazoret is a human... Winota will love this! I guess it comes tapped and attacking the first time, so you don't get the trigger. But after that though... the more powerful ones are in part 2 though, I assume you are doing the rest in part 2 :) my favourite is Naya
I have a hazoret the fervent deck which is very fun and wants you to be hellbent. There is actually a ton of good cards out there when you’re at 0-1 cards in hand! However, I’m not sure just getting vigilance and haste is worth going down to 0-1 in general
Hey, it'd be cool if you guys made a gameplay video of a pod of simpler commanders that aren't too convoluted. A video someone could send to their friends interested without scaring them away, yknow.
Stopped listening after ten years when it felt like forever set reviews. It has been about two years since I have listened to one. It is weird not having Josh, but she has a great podcast voice.
Do the death and etb triggers for Kairi and Hidetsugu trigger simultaneously when multiple clones enter? Because they have to die immediately as a state based action. Honestly I don’t really understand those
Borborygmos and Fblthp look like a decent enough commander for a Stuffy Doll style of deck, where you also add in some damage amplifiers like Gratuitous Violence and the other one from Brother's War that'll apply twice from the Commander damage trigger and the stuffy doll trigger.
Wondering if I should play Baral and Kari Zev instead og Jori En as my Wizard/instant decks commander. I am still leaning to Jori Ens carddraw over these free spells. Sure I will out them in the Jori En deck.
I think this season will be the first year every team from California makes the playoffs. I'm kinda happy to see it though still rooting for Warriors or Clippers but it feels like the Kings might be ready to take the torch after the Warriors finally age out.
Isn't Moraug kind of a nonbo with Djeru and Hazoret if you use the landfall ability during second main phase (when you normally would)? You get an extra combat but likely can't cast the creature you exile with Djeru and Hazoret because there is no other main phase before the end of the turn.
Yes, that's correct. You would need a Vedalken Orrery or similar, or creatures with flash, in order to cast the creature in that case. But that's probably too much hazzle to build around.
Pretty sure kicking Rite of Replication on Hidetsugu and Kairi will make you do the bottom text before you get to do the brainstorm text. Not that it's bad, but if you're relying on the legend rule to get your death trigger, it will not allow you to stack your deck with the brainstorm etb.
@@marcosaguilar9337 I looked it up and you're right. So with the Rite of Replication example, you would actually get to interleave your 5 etbs with the 5 death triggers, stacking the top with a brainstorm before each death trigger. Nice.

Can't believe they didn't mention double strike for Goro-Goro and Satoru, that's double the tokens. Lizard Blades is an amazing card there
wow yeah another 5/5 if you connect - truly game-breaking!
Holy sh*t that would be so broken

Wondering if I should play Baral and Kari Zev instead og Jori En as my Wizard/instant decks commander. I am still leaning to Jori Ens carddraw over these free spells. Sure I will out them in the Jori En deck.
I'm having the same question. 2 years ago it was an Adeliz deck, now it's a Veyran deck, and now I'm torn again!
Yargle and Multani is my favourite from this set by far.
Been playing a Yuriko ninjas deck and Have been looking to mix things up!
I think this season will be the first year every team from California makes the playoffs. I'm kinda happy to see it though still rooting for Warriors or Clippers but it feels like the Kings might be ready to take the torch after the Warriors finally age out.
Racheal is the only reason I watch this channel now give her a raise
I feel like the Katilda and Lier discussion missed the obvious analysis point that Katilda and Lier turns all of your humans into Snapcaster Mage.
Can't believe there was no mention of Yargle and Multani
The list is alfabethical. They will be in part 2 video.
I can't believe you didn't bring up Cadric, Soul Kindler on the Djeru and Hazoret section. He seems like he was made for that deck
You know what would be crazy? A creature type on these cards to indicate that they have allied with each other. Wouldn't that be cool?
Djeru and Hazoret is pervertedly good! (no joke, seriously)
Baral and Kari Zev is such a Josh card just because of Vedalken Orrery
Ragavan, Planeswalker made me legit lol
My dream game knights is Josh and Jimmy, with the two guests being Spice8Rack and MtgRemy. Please, I need this.
that one time Jimmy thought Minneapolis was on the East Coast 😂
How really early do you get the cards if this is recorded in March?
I feel like the new Ghalta could find a place in Lathiel decks
Thalia git rog basically makes the rest of these team ups pointless, just so much extra icing on an already perfect cake.
As someone who really wants god tribal to become a bigger thing, both these human/god teamups are going right in that brew.
Jesus Christ. Can't we have just a Josh Jimmy episode for once? Is rachel obligated by some sort of agreement to be in EVERY single episode now?
Jesus Christ. Wahh 😭
Baral and kari my favorite commander since OG rashmi
Pretty sure kicking Rite of Replication on Hidetsugu and Kairi will make you do the bottom text before you get to do the brainstorm text. Not that it's bad, but if you're relying on the legend rule to get your death trigger, it will not allow you to stack your deck with the brainstorm etb.
You can reorder the triggers
@@marcosaguilar9337 I looked it up and you're right. So with the Rite of Replication example, you would actually get to interleave your 5 etbs with the 5 death triggers, stacking the top with a brainstorm before each death trigger. Nice.
@@chibichanga1849 You’re welcome mate!
Admiral Ragava, Lord of the pilfer fleet, scourge of deck tops.
What about Firesong and Sunspeaker
Fun fact: in french creatures and a "et" (and) between subtypes
1:52:58 Rachel being the most lovable human ever!
I know it’s not in the story for the team up but I just keep thinking what if they did bolos and yawgmoth 🤔
Gitrog is my favorite legendary from Inastrad
Does anyone else think the figure in the background of Turnabout resembles JLK?
No Dina and Zimone? I think that one will be popular
I'm not sure maestros diabolist second ability could create a dragon with goro-goro and satoru, since the devil won't make "combat damage" if he dies.
the token enters tapped and attacking
@@doors54 yes but it doesn’t make combat damage if it’s blocked or dies
Yeah Baral and Kari Zev are cool and all but i'm gonna build monkey Voltron with combat tricks
