  • Sea ice extent in the Arctic Ocean has declined dramatically over the past decades. Autumn ice advance is slower and occurs later, while summer ice retreat is faster and occurs earlier, with far-reaching consequences for regional and global climate, as well as human and ecological health. The Salinity and Stratification at the Sea Ice Edge (SASSIE) experiment is a NASA campaign that focused on studying the dynamics and impacts of ocean salinity anomalies caused by melting sea ice. In this session Peter Gaube (University of Washington) gave an overview of the project and presented some early results.

35min in, salinity hard to detect by satellite reaction pH determines freezeup temps so the need to correlate salinity to pH to know it's too low for below calcium_carbonate, CaCO3's saturation_point pH of 8.2 tied to zooplankton.
We're dissolving plankton 10-times faster vs PETM's flood_basalts the clue.
We can refreeze seabeds using robotic sonic drilling rigs fleets of 100-rigs placing 10,000 chill-rods/km² takes a week, to do the 120k-km² of the Kara-Laptev-EastSiberia Seas takes 2300yrs for scale.

35min in, prediction vs remediation for strength-to-pH ratio is only raising freshwater sources by mixing rockflours this drops "when it freezes" the mechanic for sea_surface pH.
From the paper, the outflow deposits of major rivers make up much of total deposits, reply if notes read pls.
