Gorgeous engine brother. I am building a Ls3 with a stock block. I am looking for about maybe 500 wheel. Which of your heads would you use. Would the 255cc be adequate? Street/strip engine. More street. She's going into a 03' Crown Vic. She's a big girl. 4200 pounds without me in her. I don't want to run a really big cam if I can get away with it. I don't want it hard to drive cause my wife will drive it sometimes. Would it be better to put one of your 4 inch stroke cranks and just make it a 416?
I really don't WANT to build a shortblock. But I feel it's necessary to learn atleast how it's done and what is inside my engine. I need to rebuild a 6.0 for my silverado truck and frankly, can't afford to pay someone to do it. Do you think this is a smart route for me? I have no mentor, just TH-cam. So having someone check my work won't work. I assume the principals will apply to a 6.0 as you did with this engine correct?
every one starts somewhere. I think if you know you need to check and recheck your efforts you should be fine. People have been assembling engines for decades with much less prep and they run just fine. If you never try new things, you will never develop the skillz.
I rebuilt my first engine almost 40 years ago with nothing but a shop manual. I’d have killed for TH-cam videos. If you pay attention and follow the basics, you can do it. I wouldn’t suggest trying to build a race motor your first time, but for just a basic rebuild, you should be fine.
You lost me on the clay to measure oil pan. All the measuring devices you have available to choose, smashing clay (didn't even bottom out pan) doesn't make sense. Take second out of your day and go make a go and no go plate,use the crazy accurate tools you have, or throw pan on and if it bottoms out, say "mint" and move on.
I really like that block now I have to get a parts list going.

Are you sure you torqued the front cam retainer plate bolts? I saw you put them in finger-tight, but did not see you torquing them.

Just out of curiosity on 4 inch cranks how many washers if any do you usually use to space the windage tray and how much spacing do your recommend?
Till it doesn’t hit. Make sure you account for heat expansion. I always check each individual engine

Think it was 4.125 bore ... so 2 get 441 cu inch combo it would be a 4.125 stroke 😅

Normally Aspirated, Aftermarket Block, 4.125" Crankshaft and 441cid...... such a missed opportunity for a 454 with some 4.185" Pistons.
What is the max safe overbore size for those Dart blocks? I would want to save .060 for a rebuild down the line.

When it comes to running on pump 93, do you look more at the Static Compression or the Dynamic Compression for your builds?
