    I agree, the 35mm f1.4 is amazing. It's the only lens I kept for my X-H1. I dove into the GFX system.

    Rented this lens for a week, was on the fence about this and the f2 version so I bought the f2, didn’t love it like I did the 1.4 so I took the f2 back and bought the 1.4 version and have no regrets. Love this lens. Highly recommended.

      Thanks Martin!! It’s nerve racking to start a TH-cam channel and put yourself out there. Getting a comment like that is a validation that I’m bringing value to people. It’s inspiring to keep going.
      Have an awesome day Martin; and keep shooting!

    I think most autofocus complaints about this lens are from those who haven’t updated the firmware. On my XE-4 I was like “oh wow this is awful something feels wrong” and then I updated the lens and it works great.
    In addition I really don’t find it loud at all. Sure compared to the totally silent F/2s it makes some noise and you can feel it and the aperture working but its really more of a feel than a noise. I kind of like it as someone who doesn’t use the AF beep.

    This may sound odd, but when I made a short noir some time ago, I did all my effects in P.S. CS4. Extended. It has the animation timeline. You can add layers. You could, for instance, shoot your background alone, then layer the section behind the mic over the mic, and have no mic in the shot. You could even layer in some mondo mic image. I wish those asmr girls would do this...

    Those photos were beautiful. I got this lens a few weeks ago and didn’t have a chance to really try it out. Definitely it can’t focus quickly for snapping a toddler for example. The subject needs to cooperate to get the maximum benefit from this is what I’m seeing.

    Lens hood and cap...
    The lens comes with the standard round snap-on cap and the plastic slip on cap to go over the hood. BUT... there is no need to use the ridiculous slip on cap. The round standard cap easily goes on with the hood in place. Just insert it at an oblique angle then compress the squeeze tabs while pressing it against the lens. To remove, just squeeze a single tab and pivot the cap away from the lens' filter ring and let it fall into your hand while pointing lens down.
    I've had my lens for years and have never removed the hood once and only use the round snap on cap with zero difficulty.

    I have a Xf90f2 which I mostly use for outdoor portraits, which is tack sharp and renders excellent bokeh..
    Now, for indoor portraits or closer body portraits with excellent bokeh, which one should I prefer..? Xf56 f1.2 or xf35 F1.4?
    For me, background details are not required, nor I have any story to tell.. pls advise

  • @ericthestone
    @ericthestone 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This lens definitely needs an MK2 update and a better design lens cap for the square hood. And the aperture chatter......cha cha cha cha cha cha~! The 90mm is by far the fastest AF lens I got for my fujifilm.

    Just so glad I could find your Instagram to check the photos closer.
    Do you use eye-autofocus with this lens or would you rather prefer manual all the way?

    • @jasonberkmanphotography8672
      @jasonberkmanphotography8672  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Virginia! I should check my messages more! I do use eye auto focus. It can be pretty reliable but when a model looks away it can lose focus and start to back focus a little, especially with this lens because it can be a little slow. I will also use a zone focus; focus and recompose when it struggles. It’s my nuclear option. How do you like to shoot with this lens?

    Hello Jason ; Nice video here, I would like to know what do you think about the bokeh, its looks pretty distractive to the eyes, dont you?

    • @jasonberkmanphotography8672
      @jasonberkmanphotography8672  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Vincent!!
      It depends on what is behind you. I like the bokeh but I rely a little more on the background with this lens, so if there are trees the bokeh might be distracting. I think it really depends on your background. I love the milky backgrounds of the 56mm, 85mm and the longer zooms but the backgrounds sometimes get so blurry that they are just filler and colors. The 35mm allows you to tell a story by keeping the subject more connected to the background. So, yes..sometimes distracting. It depends on what's in the background. This is a great point and would use it in another video on this lens if I make one.
      Thanks again Vincent!!
      Have an amazing week!!

    Jason, awesome video, well done! Love it! I just bought the Xpro1, yeah nearly 2021, crazy huh. Love the feeling with this ‚old diva‘, has character, soul and it quirks, but that is what it‘s all about, it is not just a tool, it is a love afair ;-)
    So I was thinking about pairing it with this other ‚diva‘, but I am afraid about the AF. Don‘t need speedy AF, don‘t mind noise either, think I could get the gang of it..I got the 23/f2 and must say, it works great on the xpro1, AF is fast enough. But I have the X100T already with the fix 23/f2. Also I prefer the shape if the 1.4. wonder if it is workable on the old xpro1. Did you ever tty it on an older fuji?
    Cheers from Switzerland

      Hi Michel!! My Xt-3 was actually my first Fuji camera. After that I bought the XH-1 and got rid of my Canon gear... I want to get an Xpro series but need to save up for another body. I love the 23F2 and have the Viltrox 23 1.4. Great lens! The 35 with the noise, auto focus and quirks is a must have!! If you like a little wider but want some great character and shallow depth of field, this is an amazing choice!!
      Let me know if you pick one up!

      @@michel559 That sounds like a great deal! The you can’t go wrong with any F2 series. I needed the 35f1.4 for the extra depth of field. I actually got it while working for a brand I had plenty of wider canon lenses but need something versatile for fashion and lifestyle and wanted a native Fuji. I bought the 1.4 and never looked back. I may pick up the f2 at some point because of the quick auto focus and weather sealing:)

      @@jasonberkmanphotography8672 yeah for me it is mostly family, streets, kinda documentic life around me. Guess the f2 would be the better choice. Faster AF, smaller, guess doesn‘t block OVF (not sure about the 1.4?) easy to bring along if more then ne lens....I have the 23/f2 at the moment and I am amazed about the AF on e Xpro1. Guess I should go that route, especially if upgrading to xpro3 in a few years.

    A 50mm lens does show objects in the foreground and background with a separation similar to the human eye. But a 50 is a 50 regardless of sensor size and this lens is still a 35mm. If you want the perspective of the human eye you have to go to the 50mm f2 or the 56mm f1.2. I have all the Fuji primes (except the 27mm and 18mm) and still use the 35mm f1.4 the most. I use the 35mm f2 on my Pro3 because it just looks cooler. I’ll admit it.

      Haha, I want the Pro3!! I don't have the 50f2 but just recently got the 56 1.2 and really love it.
      I want to pick up the 27 just because of it's form factor for street and everyday. The 18 I havent been tempted to get because my 16 is the most amazing lens and if I want that focal length, I'll just grab the kit lens...:)
