I was blessed to get to know as a friend the legendary Bob Brister. If you know shotguns, you know that name. Bob passed away in 2005 and we lost one of the greats. I was shooting with Bob once when he told me that he felt that the best he'd ever shot in his life was done with a Beretta 303. If you've ever seen him shoot, you'd know what that statement meant! I am blessed to own one of his 303's in 20 gauge. What a fine firearm the 303 is!
I got this shotgun in a trade, and it looks like I did well. I dont know much about hunting shotguns, so it's nice to find this video. Thanks from New Mexico USA
Great review and happy new year to you I own one of these & it’s still in great condition after many years of service , it’s my go to gun for corvid and pigeon shooting and as you’ve stated it’ll cycle anything I put through it and has never let me down , absolutely cracking gun
It is a great gun and I have shot them for many years - simple and very well balanced. I still have bits of Chris Cradock's old 303. I use both ported 30 and 32" barrels. I have actually put so many cartridges through one of mine that I've worn out its action after 200,000 plus shells. So, they are not quite indestructible but still great... wonderful guns especially if you can find the muzzle lighter ported barrels.
Thank you for your comment. I always try to vary the content of the reviews as much as possible so there is something for everyone. Kind regards, Matthew
@@eastfieldgunroom not long ago you reviewed the Winchester 101 Diamond grade (one of which I already own)...any chance you could talk about the Miroku model 500 side-by-side, or something similar? (I'm considering one of those but can't find much on them). Just a suggestion. 🙂
Oh, the one that got away... I gave my 303 to a youngster who needed an all purpose hunting gun. I seldom let guns I truly love out of my possession but bringing kids into our sport(s) is paramount to me. 12 years later, the 303 is still his number one which to me is great testament to the design and durability. Due to a neck injury, I purchased a 391 Teknys for shooting sporting clays a few years after. Great shotgun but I actually still prefer the 303. Happy New Year!
Happy New Year, Matt. Great review. An old friend of mine had one of these. In fact, I have not seen him in decades and wouldn't be surprised at him still having it and shooting with it. He put thousands through it and would cycle anything.
Great to see this review Matt. I think Brian Hebditch had a hand in designing the sporter 303. I bought one in 1988, wish I still had it. Would still rate it above any other auto I've owned. Happy New Year to you🎉
Happy New Year Mark. Glad that you enjoyed the video and I think you are right about Brian Hebditch’s involvement. If you fancy owning another 303 then let me know. Kind regards, Matthew
I owned one of these and shot sporting clays with it. I shot 150 to 200 rounds a week for 7 to 8 years which amounts to round 60000 to 80000 rounds over this time. I had one break down with the gun. It was a small guide arm in the trigger and it cost 3 dollars and about 3 or 4 minutes to fix, so I replaced both arms. I had to quit shooting do to severe neck problems and sold the gun for the same amount I paid for it. I also owned a 20 gauge I quail hunted with for years and never had a problem with it. Most people don't know this but the Browning b-80 is just a Beretta 303 with a different looking receiver. Beretta made the Browning but Beretta quit after some kind of dispute. Nice video. Good shooting everyone.😊😊
Happy new year matt I totally agree beretta make the best semi autos I've an a400 plus since they came out and it never ever jams like you said always goes bang in the pigeon hide
Happy New Year! Now you're hitting the right spot, great review and great semiautomatic. I'm looking forward to seeing more like this, thank you very much!
I owned a Beretta 301 back in the early 80's in game guise, less engraving than the 303, but had 3 choke tubes and cannot remember any issues. It was the only semi auto I have owned. The downside is the cartridges needed to be picked up when rough shooting, which could be difficult.
You saved me an hour of driving tomorrow. I was going to pick up a 300 outlander but now I’m second guessing myself. A dealer closer to home has a 303 beretta in stock. It’s a lot cheaper as well.
Thank you for your comment, I am pleased that you found the video useful. Absolutely no comparison between those two guns, you made the correct choice. Kind regards, Matthew
Would love to but I had just bought an Ithica 900 XL - the "Japanese 1100" made by SKB that was unfired. Will revisit this with you down the road if still available. Thanks!
I have just bought a mint A300 with an unused silenced second barrel, I love it! My question, are the parts interchangeable up to the A303? Mine does not have the feed plate lock out, so it's a bit of a pain unloading. TIA
Thank you for your comment. I know that all 300 series barrels are interchangeable and many action parts for 302/3 but could not be certain everything is interchangeable. Kind regards, Matthew
Happy New Year. Thank you for your comment. Just my opinion but I find Maxus’ very thin in the hand, a bit strange in terms of stock dimensions and heavy on the trigger. Not saying they are a bad gun just not for me. Kind regards, Matthew
Thank you for your comment. Aftermarket choke tubes are manufactured by Teague, Briley, Rhino, Gemini etc to fit this gun. The fitment is Beretta Mobilchoke. I hope this helps. Kind regards, Matthew
Great video Matt that same model of gun was the same gun a old boy I wildfowled with he bought it new in the 80s and shot it for 30 odd years with not one problem Don’t make semiautomatics like that anymore thanks from Ireland
Thank you for your comment. The barrel can be cleaned using the same techniques as a break action gun. The working gas parts should be cleaned with a wire brush and some solvent. Kind regards, Matthew
Fantastic review as always Mathew thanks for sharing all your reviews and unbiased opinions on the guns you have reviewed all the very best to you and your family plus the whole team at East field gun shop and hope 2024 is an amazing year for you all ❤🎉❤

Keep up the reviews! Very handy for us who are in the market for low-cost quality guns rather than having to sell the car to get kitted out!

I use this model in 20 gauge for pheasant and quail. Great gun and versatile for clay or game.

Thank you for your comment. The 301 was a similar gun in terms of mechanics and it's reliability paved the way for the 303. Kind regards, Matthew

I have one and 38 years later it is still my fjallrjúpa (grouse) hunting gun. I hunt with it maybe 4-6 days yearly. Just clean it and it works
Thank you for your comment. Such a great great shotgun. Kind regards, Matthew
A Happy New Year to you. Here’s to many more interesting guns and informative videos😊👍
Happy New Year. Thanks for tuning in and lots to come in 2024. Kind regards, Matthew
Had one long ago and loved it. Mine would never cycle target loads but was 100% with duck and pheasant loads.
Thank you for your comment. The 303 always has and always will be a great shotgun. Kind regards, Matthew
Another great vlog, would be interested to see a review of the Perazzi MXS ;)
Thank you for your comment. Glad that you enjoyed the video. No plans as such to review an MXS but your request is noted. Kind regards, Matthew
Would love to get my hands on a A303. Here in North America the Winchester Super X Model 1 reigns Supreme...
Thank you for your comment. Am happy to help if you fancy a 303. Please contact me directly. Kind regards, Matthew

Is there any diffrence between the 303 and a304 i dont seem to so much about them at all
Thank you for your comment. from memory the A304 has a square back action like the 390 went on to have. Kind regards, Matthew
Can't think y u wouldn't recommend a browning maxus....as pleased with mine. This was the first semi auto I ever shot. Best wishes and HNY

I had a A303 and shot it out.still cannot find a replacement
Thank you for your comment. Feel free to contact me directly regarding this. Kind regards, Matthew
Can we get this gun an after market choke tube?
Thank you for your comment. Aftermarket choke tubes are manufactured by Teague, Briley, Rhino, Gemini etc to fit this gun. The fitment is Beretta Mobilchoke. I hope this helps. Kind regards, Matthew
How does it compare to the Remington 11/87
Thank you for your comment. Personally I would say that the A303 is much less 'clunky' than the Remington. Kind regards, Matthew
@@eastfieldgunroom Thank you

Try the benelli sl80 pasion
Thank you for your comment. Not a gun I am a huge fan of, was built under license for Benelli. Kind regards, Matthew
How about you do a review on a Browning Double auto
Thank you for your comment. Your request has been noted. Kind regards, Matthew
Where should I put oil on it
Thank you for your comment. I would recommend lightly oiling the magazine tube. Kind regards, Matthew
390 sport forever gun
👍👍
Basically a pump action......with gas
Another Beretta snob.
Browning B80 are better
Hardly a “snobby” gun they can be had for as little as £200 second hand…
Thank you for your interesting comment. Kind regards, Matthew
