If maul can survive being CUT IN HALF, and Palpatine can survive being electrocuted and thrown off the death star... then WHY can't ben solo survive force healing his girlfriend
How about ....why is it that people who make the ultimate sacrifice or commit a self-less deed don't come back? And yet those who are pure evil do? 😑 Dis stank!
Adam treating this role just as seriously as every other role is exactly why it came out so amazing, and is the only thing that really draws me to this trilogy. I feel like they could have fleshed out his character so much more and emphasized his and Rey's connection more. (And he definitely should not have died.) Those early designs of Kylo look so badass!
Killing Kylo/Ben was a cheap decision. I understand it was the end of the trilogy, but sending the message that death is redemption and not exploring atonement and owning up to your errors by living with them is just lazy
I respectfully disagree, because if that were the message then we wouldn't have Finn and his band of defected stormtroopers. You can't have redemption without some sort of sacrifice on your part, for Finn it was giving up the only life knowing he would be hunted for it, learning to stop running away way his arc over the course of Force Awakens and Last Jesi. As for characters like Darth Vader and Kylo Ren it's a bit more than that. The reason they have to sacrifice their lives is because it plays into their arcs. Anakin Skywalker as a character was so emotionally driven that he became overly controlling about himself and his loved ones even over death. That's why Vader choosing to confront himself over this flaw he's repressed for so long and directly overcoming it in order to save his son is so emotionallu resonating. Vader just force pushing Palpatine over the edge and surviving to live another day doesn't hit as hard both in a practical sense and narrative sense because 1. He would be arrested for war crimes and even executed. and 2. Him survivng doesn't completely his character arc. It's the same for Kylo Ren, conceptually Kylo Ren is meant to be an inverse of Darth Vader, where Vader started as a confident figure who was slowly broken down Kylo started as a broken figure who slowly given more confidence. That is why inevitably there will be parallels because as we all know it's like poetry it rhymes. But Ben Solo's arc isn't a copy and paste of Anakin Skywalker, Ben Solo became Kylo Ren because he was born into a situation where he would inevitably always be compared to legends and figures of the past is mentally taxing especially as a child. It's why he needed other forms of validation which Palpatine preyed on through Snoke. It's why he chose the name Kylo Ren over Ben Solo. Ky-lo literally being taken from sKYwalker and soLO he is making a statement that he is rejecting and cutting away all the baggage from his old name relating to the past and his family, Ben relating to Obi-Wan, Luke and the Jedi and Solo relating to Han, Leia and the Rebellion. The name Kylo is a direct manifestation of his "let the past die" philosophy, he is embracing that he is less of a Skywalker and a Solo and more his own man, Ren signifying that he is the master of the Knights of Ren, and the master of his own destiny. But as much as he says it he never got the validation he needed until Rey came along, someone who grew up in a situation where she was a nobody and only stayed there because she was comforted by the desire of wanting to be part of a family that would come back for her, the opposite of his situation. Rey had to learn to make her own family in spite of her background (it remains true for her being a nobody and Palpatine), which is also why she would accept him for being Ben Solo, not Kylo Ren. And in the grand scheme of things her being a Palpatine is just a way of tieing them both to the same great evil and it poetically represents the battle of generations between Anakin Skywalker and Palpatine. Anakin chose love and Palpatine chose control so in addition to Anakin's descendant in the end even his own descendant was against him. Ben Solo's arc culimnates emotionally when he recognises that him gaining internal validity doesn't just involve him controlling his own destiny and forcing it on others instead it involves letting other people care and love for you like how each member of the Original Trio died to save him in the long term and it culimnated with Leia solidifying that he's not this monster that's too far gone and the memory of Han Solo giving him the ok. Which is why for his redemption to work it demanded that he sacrifice himself, he needs to save Rey even if it means dying to show how he isn't afraid of not being in the spotlight of destiny anymore. And as a final battle of the Skywalker Saga Ben Solo did what his grandfather Anakin Skyalker couldn't originally bring himself to do, save the ones he cared about from dying. Not by cheating death but by embracing it in the name of love.

Though the whole cast has expressed the end of the Skywalkers storyline, maybe by some twist of fate,Lucasfilms/Disney will change their mind.Who knows? maybe we'll see Ben Solo living as a hermit because he thought he didn't deserve redemption. And that the death scene was only an illusion cast by him Luke Skywalker style. Then Rey finds out he's actually alive, and by some glorious reason, Ben Solo needs to be found because he's the last Skywalker. That in itself is a nice plot.So many possibilities.....
@@kurlykayla9013 definitely agree with u girl, there has to be a way for him to be alive somehow, he's the last living skywalker rey has to find him some way! x
Imagine this: Rey dies after killing the Emperor, Ben fails to ressurrect her. So Ben Solo becoming the Last Jedi. He restores the Jedi Order once he destroyed and trains bunch of people including Finn and The Broom Boy. But first he needs to redeem himself in the eyes of the good guys. Especially to people like Finn and Poe after somewhat causing the demise of their beloved Rey. Without Leia, Rey or anyone to stood up for him. Imagine this master and apperantice dynamics between Ben and Finn. With that Ben Solo, truly Rises as Skywalker. This would have been gave the Mary Sue the Space Jesus some depth and makes Ben's redemption more meaningful. Also he would finish what his grandfather started. Redeeming himself with restoring not merely dying.
I honestly don’t think they were expecting Driver to steal the show like he did. It’s like he WAS Kylo Ren. I want to see his story. The Knights of Ren, their story. I want THAT movie. I’ve read it all and I know it but on the big screen, what a movie that would be. Given that Driver has said numerous times he wouldn’t play the role again, I guess that dream is dead. Any one else playing this role wouldn’t do it for me. He seriously brings it to any role he plays. And he’s a Marine so, there’s that 🇺🇸
"Adam Driver's performance will go down as the best thing about the sequel trilogy." AMEN TO THAT!! Kylo Ren is 100% of the reason I became a Star Wars fan. The sequel trilogy is mostly only as good as that character's screen time. :-)
@@angrbodaironwood718 Sure, I love Rey myself too. But for the story it would have been much better, more unexpected, and the stakes proven to be much higher. It would have shocked the F out of people and made Rey an even more meaningful character. Then we would have got Ben going to the homestead.
I feel like kylo was the main character of this trilogy. And I love his personality and his story arc force powers like mind probe. Stopping a blaster bolt and best of all his lightsaber
Not to mention keeping his thoughts hidden from Snoke and bringing Rey back to life -- something his grandfather was willing to sell his soul to learn.
Killing off this character was a huge mistake. Ben Solo was the best character of this trilogy, and Adam Driver portrayed him so well. They absolutely ruined his redemption arc. Killing him was a huge mistake, but the biggest mistake of them all imo is how they handled it.. He died and nobody ever mentioned him again. Rey has no sad feelings and everyone is partying. Not even a force ghost Ben.. I can’t with this movie :(
@@lc4152 I don't know maybe because he tried to murder them all and he policed every world creating a massive war where he goes to extents such as burning small villages it isn't like he's a good guy.
Kylo/Ben was the best thing in this trilogy. Ben Solo will be back, adam driver will be back as Ben Solo and I predict he will have script approval ;) I mean come on, this film outside of his performance blew balls.
I really wish they had stuck with Rian's direction for the character, as I think it made him much more interesting, and presented so many more unique for Star Wars story possibilities, as opposed to a watered down Darth Vader arc. I mean seriously his arc is damn near identical to Vader. Would have been far more interesting for him to be the primary antagonist. I also hate that they reforged the mask because him destroying the mask was the admission that even though he was desperately trying to emulate Vader, he never could be him. He was setting his own path, and destiny. This was far more compelling in a story, as wall as meta-textual sense.
Noah East yeah and JJ only brought the mask back cause they put a lot of effort into designing it??? R u kidding?? Never mind the storyline, what matters is obviously them sulking and getting their way 🤦🏻♀️
Yep, and the decision of making Rey a nobody was one of the better decisions in the sequel trilogy too. The fact they had to make Rey a Palpatine is a bit bloodline-obsessed. Can't true power come from small places? Anakin was just a boy in a desert planet when he was discovered, can't Rey just be a random girl too?
@@MilA-eh3gf I think it would have been boring in a way. I was confused at that fact but they always talked about her parents in a way that there must have been something behind it. Thanks man. I had a daughter and the channel kinda fell by the wayside, but she's 18 months old now and easier to handle, plus might as well make the most of not being able to work during this crazy pandemic :P thanks again, I really appreciate it
And that's why Kylo Ren is my favorite sequel character. He was acted so well. Adam put his heart and soul into this character much like his other roles. All of his emotions felt so real the entire time I watched the movies. Not to mention the Knights of Ren scene. I LOVED the Knights of Ren scene so much, I had a huge stupid smile the entire time.
6:12 actually in AOTC when Anakin and dooku are fighting in the dark they are using illuminated blades instead of the painted metal ones, which is why you can see the glow of red and blue on their faces
They had something great with Kylo at first I wanted him and Rey to be siblings or cousins but after seeing TROS and seeing them act as if they were in love I would've liked them getting together at the end and having a true Skywalker baby or babies to set up a new trilogy
I think the overall idea and character arc of Kylo Ren is great, probably the best thing about the Sequel Trilogy, and his design in The Force Awakens is amazing. But they really butchered his potential, especially in the Rise of Skywalker (what wasn't butchered in that movie?).
Rian Johnsons vision for the character was far more unique and compelling IMO. JJ just made him a watered down Vader copy. He had the potential to be in the top 5 of Star Wars characters with good writing, and Drivers magnificent performance, but naturally JJ squandered it.
@@noaheast7600 Totally, I thought it was so cool when Kylo killed Snoke and took over the First Order (I didn't like how Snoke was killed so easily, but I didn't even like Snoke as a character to begin with, so I was fine with that). Kylo should have been the main antagonist of The Rise of Skywalker, but instead we got the Emperor for no good reason and this Reylo BS.
Kylo Ren will always be my favorite Star Wars character because of how layered he is! Right from the first movie we know he’s torn from the light and the dark! He’s like Claude Frollo from Hunchback with a bit more understanding for his motives. And of course Adam Driver did a FANTASTIC JOB playing the character
Great video, as always! I guess he replied his mask twice as it was destroyed in The Force Awakens, too. He left it on the walkway after killing his dad, so it went up with Starkiller Base. Of course, an hour later when The Last Jedi starts, he has it once again. I guess he has a room full of them.
I love the Kylo/Ben character. Going in to TROS I didn’t want Reylo to happen or Ben to be redeemed but the way JJ did it was beautiful. Adam deserves all the praise for this role and should get awards for it too
Ben Solo deserves to be alive, because he really deserves a second chance, plus, he really cares for Rey, he wants to be with her. I'd be curious to see an addendum of sorts to certain videos that have since gained some additional material following their release like Maul or Sidious. I'd be curious to see a full sequel trilogy breakdown of the various changes and concepts.
Adam Drivers performance was one of the best things about the sequel trilogy and it could have been better, but they kept him weak and winey so that he wouldn't overshadow Rey. That's why he lost twice to her. Luke was also dominated by Rey with a saber for the same reason. In an interview with Filoni and Pablo Hidalgo, they discussed the plan of subverting expectations and making Leia the Obi One mentor figure instead of Luke, sending the message that the future is the Matriarchy.
The one good thing JJ Abrams did whille directing a Star Wars film was the casting. All of the actors on this trilogy are so great and Adam Driver is just the best.
I really feel that they dropped the ball by leaving out the Force ghost of Luke Skywalker messing with/inside Kylo Ren's head in Rise of Skywalker. That was a genius idea that I would have loved to see onscreen

And he’s a Marine so, there’s that 🇺🇸
This man is an ACTOR, he uses every muscle in his face to define the emotions in the character
"Adam Driver's performance will go down as the best thing about the sequel trilogy." AMEN TO THAT!! Kylo Ren is 100% of the reason I became a Star Wars fan. The sequel trilogy is mostly only as good as that character's screen time. :-)

Adam Driver is the best thing about the sequels and Ben Solo deserved so much better
I would have let Rey die and kept Ben. That twist would have been epic.
While I wouldn't want Rey to die, it would have added meaning to the title in an interesting way.
@@angrbodaironwood718 Sure, I love Rey myself too. But for the story it would have been much better, more unexpected, and the stakes proven to be much higher. It would have shocked the F out of people and made Rey an even more meaningful character. Then we would have got Ben going to the homestead.
Or they could both live lol
@@ilovemana143 yeah but rey living was obvious
BigBoy exactly EXACTLY!
That lightsaber spinning of Kylo is satisfying tbh
I feel like kylo was the main character of this trilogy. And I love his personality and his story arc force powers like mind probe. Stopping a blaster bolt and best of all his lightsaber
Not to mention keeping his thoughts hidden from Snoke and bringing Rey back to life -- something his grandfather was willing to sell his soul to learn.

My favorite character in the new series! Adam is so good
Killing off this character was a huge mistake. Ben Solo was the best character of this trilogy, and Adam Driver portrayed him so well. They absolutely ruined his redemption arc. I miss Ben.😭😭😭😭😭😭 Also can we appreciate 0:09 ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Edit: Wow thanks for all the likes!
Edit 2: 205 likes?! Damn that’s a lot! Thank y’all so much!
they don't need him any more because the trilogy ended.
Iron Kamekaze stfu
Killing him was a huge mistake, but the biggest mistake of them all imo is how they handled it.. He died and nobody ever mentioned him again. Rey has no sad feelings and everyone is partying. Not even a force ghost Ben.. I can’t with this movie :(
@@lc4152 I don't know maybe because he tried to murder them all and he policed every world creating a massive war where he goes to extents such as burning small villages it isn't like he's a good guy.
Kelly Jung ikr. It’s almost like his death was unsignificant .
Kylo/Ben was the best thing in this trilogy. Ben Solo will be back, adam driver will be back as Ben Solo and I predict he will have script approval ;) I mean come on, this film outside of his performance blew balls.
i thought there was only 3 films every trilogy? and adam driver said he was done with star wars :( hoping he comes back tho ALIVE
0:06 Anyone else can't get enough of that beat?
whats the name of it?🤣
This is silly but I love Ben's shirt at the end of the movie 😂 it looks so comfy
Noah East Agreed
I wish the RoS was done better, JJ had another shot at a Star Wars film and made the worst one to date
I expected something shocking because otherwise it would have been really boring. I don't know why it must have been Palpatine because for me it made no big sense, but that she wasn't just a nobody was fine
Your last line... Agreed. His performances made this trilogy!
One of the few highlights of the Sequel Trilogy. Adam did a wonderful job.
I've heard it said that Adam Driver's back really hurt after Rise of Skywalker because he carried that trilogy. That is the truth! Then JJ killed Ben Solo - what a joke.

Behind Star Wars, that’s great, family first
Adam takes his roles very seriously. Great.
7:15 that is sweet that he just wants to watch force awakens with Daisy and Carrie.
Adam Driver as Kilo was the absolute best thing about this Star Wars trilogy.
6:12 actually in AOTC when Anakin and dooku are fighting in the dark they are using illuminated blades instead of the painted metal ones, which is why you can see the glow of red and blue on their faces
Thanks for this! I have been never been so invested in a character before, thanks to Adam Driver. Such an amazing character, hope they bring him back.
Adam is the only reason I will ever re-watch the last trilogy.
They had something great with Kylo
at first I wanted him and Rey to be siblings or cousins but after seeing TROS and seeing them act as if they were in love I would've liked them getting together at the end and having a true Skywalker baby or babies to set up a new trilogy
BADD BUNNY yes yes yes
Not to mention that Rian Johnson literally said that the hand touching scene in TLJ was “the closest thing to a sex scene in Star Wars”
Sounds rather shit.
I think the overall idea and character arc of Kylo Ren is great, probably the best thing about the Sequel Trilogy, and his design in The Force Awakens is amazing. But they really butchered his potential, especially in the Rise of Skywalker (what wasn't butchered in that movie?).
minerVSzombies the visual effects I guess and the sound track. Other than YIKES
I agree
Rian Johnsons vision for the character was far more unique and compelling IMO. JJ just made him a watered down Vader copy. He had the potential to be in the top 5 of Star Wars characters with good writing, and Drivers magnificent performance, but naturally JJ squandered it.
@@noaheast7600 I agree. The best thing Rian did in ep. 8 was Kylo's arc
Probably but I do like that he specifically repairs the one he broke
Maybe if people saw your videos the Star Wars Fandom wouldn't literally be at war with each other. You are a legend.
To be honest, the best thing about the new Star Wars that the general public got aware of Adam Driver's incredible talent. That's about it.
Great video man; I agree that Adam's portrayal is the best thing about the sequel trilogy, hands down

I love the Kylo/Ben character. Going in to TROS I didn’t want Reylo to happen or Ben to be redeemed but the way JJ did it was beautiful. Adam deserves all the praise for this role and should get awards for it too
Best character ever
Ben Solo deserves to be alive, because he really deserves a second chance, plus, he really cares for Rey, he wants to be with her. They both deserve to be together, they do make a wonderful couple & they both deserve a nicer & brighter future together. Great to see you back dude! interesting video as always! - Also your voice is very relaxing - reminds me of ASMR!
Wow! This is a great video. I clicked on it thinking that it was just behind stuff on TROS and did not expect it to be this insightful.
Great work as always!
