Thanks for watching and have a Great Day!
I've been custom building truck models well into 50 years now and I can tell you, it wasn't just your kit that had fit issues and warpage, nearly all AMT truck kits have issues, AMT did more great subjects than anyone on the planet but fell short on quality fitting kits. You did a great job on this truck, I've built many of these and yes, the motor is the best part of this kit.
I agree with you 100% They have the best selection but the quality is where they come up short. It's not just their truck models, it's the cars as well. That Popper Pinto I built a while back was horrible. But, that's all part of model building.
Thanks for watching, have a great week.
I'm backing you up on this, my hood and frames had some pretty significant warping as well. I think our modeling history may be quite similar as well (better part of 50 years building as well (I started around 7). I agree 100%, AMT had a GREAT variety of subjects but did has some QA issues with some kits.
A great looking paint scheme. You assembled the kit nicely. I just did the Kenworth Alaskan Hauler and the Kenworth W-925 AMT kits. I get exactly what you mean, with regards to assembly. The kits are a challenge. I had to cut my hood on the hauler and make brackets and modify the kit mounts to get the panels to even fit, let a lone line up nicely. I must say that it is nice to have these kits available, after some effort they do make a nice model. Your models are good to see and watch. I just posted a video on my channel. My next kit is the Peterbilt Wrecker by you guessed it, AMT.
Thank you for the kind words. I agree, it's nice that they are still making these kits. I also agree that they need some improvements and that they can be a challenge. But hey, whats life without a few challenges? :^) Thanks for watching and commenting. have a great week.
very nice GMC General I love the Brigadier and the Astro my favorite 3 trucks made by GMC
Thank you 😊 And thanks for watching. Have a great day. 👍
Sir, in case you haven’t heard of him, may I suggest you have a look at Nigels modelling bench, right now he’s building a 1/35 Scammell tank transporter.
He offers up great hints on how to keep frame rails etc straight.
I love your truck too! Looks great
Thanks James, I think I know who you're talking about , I'll check it out. Thanks for watching. Have a great weekend 👍
Just picked up this kit and the matching trailer at Ollies for $20 apiece. Found my cab is a little warped. Looks like some adventures in model building ahead.
Great deal at 20 each! Have a great time building it. Also, thanks for watching and have a great week.
Your thumbnail says it's a 1/24th model, but it's clearly a 1/25th according to the box. AMT don't make any 1/24th truck or car kits that I know of, unless they've reboxed an old Monogram kit or some other brand. Regardless of the scale, you did a nice job on this truck. The colour looks great on it.
Wow!!! Thanks for pointing that out, I didn't catch that. I looked it up on scalemates.com and it looks like this kit has always been a AMT kit. The first issue of it was in 1978. I'll have to update that thumbnail when I get a chance. Thanks for compliments, I really like how the colors came out as well. Thanks for watching and have a great weekend.
@@PlasticImaginationWorkshop No problem. I had to go back and watch some of it again to see what colour you did the roof, fenders and fuel tanks. It looks a bit like copper to me. I've got some nice copper paint that I used on the hull of the Cutty Sark, and I was thinking of painting a car or truck with it. It came out a bit darker than your truck, but I think it might lighten up if I put it over something other than gloss black. I think the warped plastic is a common thing on some of these old moulds. I'm building several 50 year old kits from my father's stash, and they all have badly warped parts and lots of flash, sink holes, ejector pin marks, seams and parts that just don't fit.
For that color on my kit, I sprayed a base coat of gold and then went over it with Tamiya's clear orange. have fun building those vintage kits. @@davidorr6627
Fantastic Work 💯👍
Thank you very much!
Typical AMT truck kit always warped and most parts dont fit well
I agree with you but that's all part of modeling. Sure would be nice if they updated these kits and improved the quality control. Still, it was a fin build for the most part. Thanks for watching and have a great week.
I Like It SIR Nice Job Keep Up The Great Work
Thanks, will do! And thanks for watching. Have a great weekend 👍
I have a sizeable stash of AMT truck models, including a few that are ERTL, prior to the AMT merger. The Ertl kits build fairly well, the AMT kits ... good grief, what is wrong with those people? I've been told that "they just take a little extra time," but I may not live long enough to sort them out.
I totally agree with you. I think it all comes down to quality control in most situations. I don't know where they are actually producing the kits these days but I have received more kits in better quality from Atlantis. They produce there kits here in the states and feel they have better quality control. Just my opinion. Thanks for watching. Have a great week.
You definitely turned lemons into lemonade, Thomas. You have a knack for building those rigs. Nice work.
Thank you Thomas, appreciate it.
I have the sister to this kit, The AMT Chevy Bison in 1/25. I haven't started on it yet, but when I do, I plan on adding some upright supports to mount some scratch build diamond plate car ramps and pairing it with the Revell Auto Transport Trailer, also in 1/25, to make a " portable parking lot " as the rigs are known, I'll be doing the build on my channel when I get to it.
Cool! It sounds like an interesting build, I'm looking forward to seeing it. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great week.
So honestly I've been fighting through this one. The warped bits everywhere are making me go crazy.... trying way to hard to get to perfect. At this point i just need to get paint laid down on the hood (again) give up on lining up the passenger side where ive debated cutting off the edge to line up thr hood better (the casting flash on this thing is ridiculous).
Anyway i have put it back in the box 5 times now. Its time to finish this thing.
And that song at 21 minutes? Sounds like they were playing How close can you get to playing ZZ top without playing ZZ top? Lol
I feel your pain.... We have all been there; just have to push through sometimes. One thing I do is remind myself that this will 'eventually' look great on the shelf, and most likely, no one is ever going to see the small issues or misalignments once it's done. Unless we point them out to folks, which I try really hard not to do. That said, it can be hard when the issues are really bad and staring you in the face, like the hood not aligning with the cab; hard to miss that. Also, this is the sort of problem-solving needed for building these kits with issues like this. Look at it as a challenge, then see what creative way you can come up with to make it work. That seems to work for me, most of the time, but I also have several kits that have gone 'back in the box.' Try to remember, this is a hobby, and we do it for 'fun.' Yeah, said nobody who has built any of these kits. Keep on trucking, have fun with it, and you'll get there. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great weekend.
And that's why it's in there. I love me some ZZ Top! Have a great weekend.
Nice build. Nice video. I have this truck and the Coca Cola trailer and planning on building them both next!! Thanks for the heads up on the tractor. Will definitely use this video as a guide
Thanks 👍 I'm actually building the trailer now. Thanks for watching and have a great week.
Does anyone know what became of Ertl, i think I'm sure i have spelt that right, i used to enjoy building those kits in the 1970's . I am pretty sure one of them was an International transtar eagle 2. Thanks from the U K.
My history might be a bit fuzzy, but in 1983, Ertl purchased AMT. Then, in 1999, Ertl was acquired by Racing Champions, which later became part of the RC2 Corporation. Fast forward to 2012, Round 2 LLC acquired the full rights to AMT, MPC, and Polar Lights tooling. As for the 'toy' side of Ertl, it is currently owned by Tomy. Like I said, history isn't my strong suit, but I believe that’s where Ertl stands today. Thanks for watching, and have a great day!
@@PlasticImaginationWorkshop thankyou for your reply, take care.
The original AMT kits had part numbers and also a description of the part ie muffler , starter etc .
Cool! Thanks.
Ollie's has the GMC model,s for sale $15 buck,s and they also have trailer model,s
Wow! That's a great price. Thanks for watching, have a great week.
My kit was a real challenge too. The cab and hood were terrible. The exterior mirrors were a disaster too.
Yep, I hear that. Some parts are worse than others. But, it's all part of building models; gotta take the good and the bad. Thanks for commenting and watching. Have a great weekend 👍
Sweet build looking good 👍 👌 😊
Thanks! Have a great weekend 👍
Man I really enjoy your videos, do you have any advice for dry brushing like an old paint brush cause I always put way to much paint down and does air brushing put off as much fumes as rattle cans thanks in advance
Hello, and thanks for watching! I'm delighted that you're enjoying the channel.
For dry brushing, here's a quick tip: aim to have the brush look dry before touching the model. To test, brush the top of your thumb-if you don't see any paint come off, you're on the right track.
Now, onto airbrushing and fumes. In short, airbrushing produces far fewer fumes compared to a rattle can. However, keep in mind that you're still dealing with tiny paint particles in the air. Even when using acrylics, it's a good practice to ventilate your space or wear an appropriate mask, or both.
I hope these tips are helpful for your painting endeavors. Have a fantastic week, and once again, thanks for tuning in!
@PlasticImaginationWorkshop oh yes I really appreciate your insight, keep up the great work and I'm definitely enjoying it
Very nice.👍
Thank you, Charlie! Have a great weekend.
What kind of glue do you use and where do you buy it?
For the most part, I use TAMIYA, Inc Extra-Thin Cement. I also use TAMIYA Extra-Thin Cement Quick-Setting and Revell Contact Liquid Glue as well. You can pick these up at most hobby stores or online. Here is an Amazon link to the first one.
www.amazon.com/Extra-Thin-Cement-40-ml/dp/B07D3ZRM7M/ref=sr_1_6?sr=8-6
I also use super glue which can be purchased pretty much everywhere.
Thanks for watching and have a great week.
Turned out very well, and I have my glasses on :)
Thank you, Dan! Have a great weekend !
Awesome job love ❤it great colors
Thank you! I really like these colors too. Thanks for watching and have a great week.
Your build looks fantastic, you really overcame some obstacles on this kit. As far as AMT branded kits go, I've had very good experiences with the W925 and K123 as well as their Peterbilts and Diamond Reo/Autocar/White-Western star kits. I think the issues with the General are mainly due to age (not much to be done about that), Overall, I am GLAD that @round2 have brought all of these kits back. Thanks for the video, you have reassured me that it wasn't my ability slipping away.
Thank you so much for the kind words. AMT does have some good kits still and I am definitely thankful that Round2 has brought so many back for us. Thanks for watching and sharing in the comments. Have a great week.
I have just completed building the chassis and the hood hinges suck, I'm have glued the hood to the cab as I'm giving this and the trailer to my mom on Christmas as the Coke Cola tractor and trailer are being loaded. Yours looks great
Thank you for the compliment, and I like the idea of gluing the hood to the cab. That's a good workaround. I'm sure your mom will love it. Thanks for watching and have a great week.
Thank you for sharing this video I'm working on one right now. Your video has help me get through most of my build because the instructions sucks. I have most of it together I'm trying to figure out the side mirrors .. hopefully I will be ready to sit on the Frame by Saturday
You're welcome and I am happy it has helped you. Just take your time and you'll get there. Thanks for watching and commenting. have a great weekend.
Thanks man enjoy your weekend as well
My dad built so many truck models. Great nostalgia
Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great week.
Try a amt Pete 352 Pacemaker. Lol. Almost finished with mine 11 mos so far.
I have actually had that kit in my cart several times but never pulled the trigger. Maybe someday. Thanks for watching and commenting. Have a great day.
Love this kit. I built the Coca-Cola one and now I'm doing a Pepsi one. My plan is to also to do a RC cola one. I have all the kits and decals I need, I just need the time to go through the building and painting processes.
Awesome!!! You'll have a great collection. Thanks for watching and have a great week.
Best to do them together as an "assembly line" to cut down on work time, not re-opening paints, etc. Plus it's great to complete 2 or 3 at the finish line.
Looks awesome Thomas!!
Thank you Sir! Have a great weekend 👍
