Typical zoning commission, instead of just saying "you can't have a big pile of sand in your yard at the lake", they first say "well, it's got to be 100ft away from the water." Then after you make all the effort to move it they threaten you with fines or jail for doing exactly what they first said.

I understand some regulations but things like this show you just how not Free America really is & also property tax, so no one truly owns any land. "No one is more enslaved than someone who believes they are free."
You apparently live in the country, have multiple pieces of construction equipment on the property, and they are concerned about a relatively small pile of sand??? I'm confused. Is there a regulation about sandboxes? If not, you should have nailed some 2x12s together to make it a 'legal' sandbox. Sounds like bureaucratic BS to me.
Chances are there's a special shoreline zoning or wetlands BS within a certain distance of the water, where "we tax you like you own it, but it's really ours" rules apply. I do wonder if the second notice wasn't because they expected the sand to disappear after the first notice, and didn't realize that it actually had moved.
That's exactly what I was thinking. Why is this pile of sand such an issue? There's just too many rules and too many busy bodies sticking their noses where they doesn't belong.
I’m with you GrandpaLarry. I watched for 27 minutes to find out why that pile of sand was a big deal to the G-men and after all said and done I’m still in the dark!

It didn’t matter to them and they harassed my parents, both of which had dimentia . Gotta love those people. Oh I am being highly sarcastic
My guess, there's a realtor selling a house nearby and turned you in. Yea, they do that because of devaluing the potential value of the property they're trying to sell. And on another note: I don't mind using a trailer jack handle, it always kept my "patting myself on the back" arm too sore to do so, just saying.(LOL) Have a great "jail-free" weekend, Stan. Cheers!
That's a good point. Most realtors ( not all - surely this ain't all of them) are pretty ppl who can't or won't do much that's useful so they go into lying about, transferring and hiding problems for a commission while wearing good clothes.
Russell that is hard to believe. With the Olympics at hand and just losing to the Canadien team it would be hard to also regulate property/zoning infractions.

From someone in the U.K., I’m amazed that the "Land of the Free", seem to want to incarcerate their citizens for the most banal and petty misdemeanours, and also feel the need to live under the tyrannical control of Home Owners Associations.
It isn’t always HOA. It’s their local councils. I remember a story about a guy who put up a mast windmill for power, got told it was illegal and to move it. Did so, but where he put it was also illegal( though funny how it was ok when he asked for building permits both times. Then, after he moved it, faced jail over the small foundation block that was left behind. That removal of which would have caused structural damage to his house. Even though that was cited, the council didn’t care, and when he removed it, they claimed his house was not structurally unsound. The case went on for years. Every time he did what they told him to do, they found another thing to charge him with, then another, then another.
Title comes in several parts. When American Fed government incorporated everything had to change to fit in a new system. Now they keep 1 part of the title to every land sale, thus having a vested interest in the property. Because you can't cause harm to a property owners interest they get to tell you how you can and can't use the land. It's also why you pay taxes, it's their part of the land interest. Get alodial title(all parts) and then you can tell them to pound sand.
that big of a property and you cant even have a small pile of sand in your yard without them threatening to put you in jail. Thats honestly pretty sad.
It never ceases to amaze me how much government can tell you what you can do on YOUR OWN property even when you are hurting no one else. We DO NOT live in a free country anymore.
Love watching your videos Stan. Being from the UK (though spent >2 years in 48 states, so not totally unfamiliar with US culture) I’d have appreciated a bit more explanation on what the issue with the sand is, as it was confusing; and it would help us international viewers understand your world a bit more. If it’s “none of my beeswax“ as they say over there, then that’s all good too! Again, thanks for letting us ride along with you.
@Myrra Lamb Thanks so much Myrra! You should definitely visit when the restrictions are lifted, we have lots of different ecosystems in a very small area, from the rolling fields of the Cotswolds, to the stunningly beautiful lake district, the bleak Yorkshire Moors and the epic Scottish highlands (to name but a few). All within a few hours car journey from each other. You can be in beautiful forest one minute and metropolitan city the next. Also, having travelled the world, we have some of the greenest country you will ever see, wonderful historic sites like Stonehenge, York, Bath, Hadrian's wall, and London has some of the best museums and theatre. I recommend spending a few days in London then renting some cottages in the Lakes.
As I see it, you have at least a couple ways to go with this. 1) If they gave you a signed order to remove the sand, or else... Send them an invoice for ALL your work. You make money on orders, remember? They are committing extortion. Very simple. 2) If that is YOUR property, sue the bastards for "Administration of your property without right".
I am interested, is there a specific reason they do not want the sand piles near the lake? Are they worried about the pile washing down to the lake and causing sediment issues? There is a reason, I just do not know what it is.
Can't imagine living somewhere that would threaten to throw me in jail for having a small pile of sand on my property. Good luck with your neighbors, lmao.

SEEMS LIKE THE POLLUTION ITS WHAT THE SAND MAY CONTAIN AND THEN LEACH IN TO WATER. ANIMALS DOING IT DONT MATTER BECAUSE THE CASE TO STOP ANIMALS FROM DOING IT IS TO BIG THIS MAN EASY TARGET (sorry about caps).
You need to watch Clarkson‘s Farm on Amazon to see how the UK enforces environmental laws on private land. My guess is with this guy the body of water was funded by Federal or State maintenance money, so now falls under Federal water clarity codes. Sand can cloud water which causes algae. It’s fun to see the grand kids have fun in the sand, but the cost of their enjoyment shouldn’t destroy the lake.
You simply can't make some people happy. I guess I can see the sand down by the water for water clarity issues, per say. But I hate when powers that be change the rules to suit whom ever is crying the loudest. I was reading some of the other comments about having problems with business equipment at their house. But the same Karen's complaining, gonna run a home business selling things and have a FedEx and amazon truck at her house 10 times a day and get the zoning changed in her neighborhood to be able to do an addition to her house to accommodate her office and storage. And still have time to talk down on people doing manual labor and driving their work truck home to save time and money. All that being said.... Stan you do great work, love the videos, and despite the crappiness of the situation you stayed positive!!!
I'd have to imagine the letter was from the DNR or conservation police concerned about that pile making it's way into the waterway. That stuff is taken very seriously
@Myrra Lamb the hell they do.. money is king.. if you have cash you can build whatever you want they don't care. The only vegetation the state of Minnesota dnr cares about is the cash. Hell theyre the reason we have so many tree infections etc. In the first place!.. Oh hey Billy let's go test this insect out on state forest land and see if we can manage it.. ope sheesh it got loose.. now we have ash borers and oak wilt fungus all over!.. Cities are literally allowing developers to back fill wetlands and build houses... there's a site in dayton where some of the foundations sank 3 feet after the first year.. 3 FEET!
Old concrete is considered clean fill in Minnesota, and can be used to protect Lake shore from erosion. I don't think clean sand should be any issue. That said, some communities / HOA's might not like old busted up concrete, or might require a certain type of rip-rap etc. But I don't think that's likely up where Stan's cabin is. (Down where, from me lol)
That just goes to show you what kind of justice we have. Put a working man in jail over something like that and smack a thief on the wrist and tell him not to do that again. That's messed up. Feel sorry for your grand kids. That's the kind of world we live in

My neighbor got a 5k fine for taking down a half dead tree that already dropped large branches on both his house and his vehicle (while his 36 month old son was in it). So he hired and arborist to take down the tree in an emergency removal. Permit would take longer than he felt safe to keep it up, especially after the vehicle incident (also required a replacement hood and windsheild). The neighbour got nosy, and upset because it was an old large tree that was there for over 35 years. The city slapped the fine on him, regardless of the reasoning.
35 yrs, omg! That's a sapling! I got upset when my neighbor took down a 400 yr old oak but you know what I did? Thats right, I helped him clean up the small stuff and it warmed my family all the next winter. I miss the hell out.of that tree but guess what, it was his to cut not mine to leave.
When I was in Cali one of the homes I had made me draw detailed plans of soft and hardscape. I include a location for a swing set for the kids. They approved it and then when the swing set went in they started sending me threatening letters. I referred to the previously approved plans and the fact that I got my swing set from the largest distributor in the world, Sears. The HOA was ruthless so I put up a taller fence and covered it with honeysuckle. HOAs have no authority over jail time so it would have to be some form of law enforcement community. Sadly Stanley, you moved it away from the water and they still didn't like it and, your grandkids will pay the price
That's crazy. Someone called the cops on my neighbors sawmill the police came and said everything is legal. But then lady that works for the city is saying everything is illilegel we checked the laws and it says nothing about a sawmill. Now he has 30 days to get all of his equipment out of else they are going to start charging him. Anyways hope everone had a great week and hope everone has a great weekend, God bless.
The government is a joke doesn't matter where you live. Where I live, it's illegal to use your home for any kind of business use, I'm technically not even allowed to use my garage to fix my own tools or trucks. I can't park my F550 at my house, my dump trailer can't be here either. It's insane.
As I see it, he can either make money with the saw mill, or he can make money filling the city's order. He removes the sawmill and charges a $1000/day for filling their order. Would that be enough revenue? Make the gubmint bastards think twice before EVER messing with you in the future. Let them find an easier target.
You’re not playing the game right. You get your big pile of sand and you put it wherever the heck you like, and then you plant a big BeeLM flag in the middle. Any Karen that complains, automatically gets called a Waycist and is promptly sacked, and your kids get to play in their newly diverse sand pile.
Seems like a lot of jail time for dirt. But since you are near a waterway. I know they take everything more serious when it comes to nature and foreign materials. Still a bummer. Great video by the way.
@Thomas John Hanlon Jr. What gets me is that if you or I go out and burn down someone's business, we go to prison for arson, but if we bring 100 friends along and burn 20 buildings, it's a 'movement' and who gets charged? Bob Dylan was onto something, that's for sure.

It's speaking of the cylinder. It's telescoping with 3 stages. Larger surface area of the 3rd stage takes more oil to move and power to move the the previous 2 stages
@@withinarmsreach9826 Yes, 3 stage refers to the cylinder being 3-part extension. But last stage has smallest surface area (you can see this in the video) and smallest force. So in the 3rd stage the cylinder won't move because same pressure is applied to smaller surface area on the cylinder, resulting in less force.
I can see, and largely agree with, there being laws and legislation for unauthorised earthworks close to the water-way, but that'd be for much larger work - using it against a kid's sandpile is someont taking the piss! Not just who-ever made the initial complaint, but the petty-minded jobs-worth who actually took action on it rather than dismissing it as a vexagious complaint. Did the Township or who ever quote the local by-laws that you are supposed to be violating or was it just a letter threatening you. If its a by-law enforcement officer who has told you to remove the sand did they inform you if there is an appeal process?
@@Jacobyte1746 Very good question - I was thinking that Stan checked it out and/or they did things differently over there, but I would have expected there to have been an actual inspection initially, and another inspection to check it off. There may also be some issues with the wording of the notice as there are issues like due process, etc. the law needs to abide by. In retrospect, there're possibly some warning signs that it was some interfering neighbour who could just have easily have faked some document - was it posted or hand delivered by a server?

It needs two pistons to truly have a “3rd stage”. This is a weak sales pitch of having a 3rd stage.
Looks like its bending the cylinder ram.
I wonder what the carbon footprint was from all the gas it took to remove the sand and restore the land to save the lake?
I can see, and largely agree with, there being laws and legislation for unauthorised earthworks close to the water-way, but that'd be for much larger work - using it against a kid's sandpile is someont taking the piss! Not just who-ever made the initial complaint, but the petty-minded jobs-worth who actually took action on it rather than dismissing it as a vexagious complaint.

I agree with ya one that one!
That's where it starts is "for big jobs". Then it gets amended and used as a tool to harass

Nice work what finesse with your machinery. I could use one of those on my property here in Washington maybe when I hit the lotto. It is now September end but we had one long drought with a 3 month burn ban. It has rained a bunch finally, I'm sure its all headed your way. It seems when I lived in Ohio it rained more ! Enjoying your video'sI am not a contractor though....
How do you guys get the last little bit of your spoil pile? I feel like I just end up shoving the last 10-20% around a bunch, but can't get it in the bucket, lol.
