I lost my cat Shadow at 17y old. Ol' lady black cat! She passed Aug 11 this year. Hyperthyroidism is all too common at that age.
I'm 28 now, but I've had that cat in the family since middle school, 6th grade.

As a single 43 year old man, in good shape physically, mentally and financially, I do not date women my age. I date 25-35 year olds. Why? There is very little a woman my age can offer me. She's past childbearing years, has kids of her own I have to care about and probably support, and probably has the same sex-life mentality and body image that ended her marriage. Not to mention a giant chip on her shoulder and entitlement to the stars. Hard pass.
Point is, sometimes the truth hurts. Deal with it and improve yourself, or stay lonely.
Sorry about your fuzzball, been there myself. As for your neighbor, you are right that if being around you causes him to "stray" or even ignore her in favor of you, then they have more issues than you and it will be a ticking time bomb. Then again, he genuinely might have just been excited to discuss stuff he enjoys, seems like those are things not in her interest list. You also said you are the jealous/possessive type, so you should be able to empathize with her. My marriage was pretty much ruined due to my ex-wife being the jealous/possessive type, even though I never cheated on her but she hated for me to spend time with anyone besides her. Really, the only way being jealous/possessive works, is if you get someone who is antisocial. I am pretty gregarious, so it was torture trying to keep her happy while I was miserable, not being able to hang out with friends and family without catching hell from her.
Everything happens for a reason, and probably a blessing that friendship with that woman ended before it even started… for her to be that insecure with her husband talking to you. it's just actions have consequences. If a girl dresses down in frumpy jersey's and track pants with unkept hair, other people are going to view her a certain way. If the girls twin sister dresses up, all make up and cocktail dresses with high heels and stunning hair, people will not see her the same as her sister, even if they are otherwise identical. All this works equally for guys too.
And that's a good thing too, sometimes you want to stand out, lock your best, and reap the rewards/gain the social power from doing that, other times you just want to walk the dog and be left alone.
Like Bill says, if you want to put yourself out there, and reap the rewards from social media for doing that, sure, feel free, but do it knowing that there are negatives that come with the positives, and you're choosing to put up with the downsides to gain from the up sides.
The way i look at it is: your chosen clothing is an outward expression of who you are inside. Judge books by their cover, just be willing to admit that you occasionally make a wrong judgement. "Ladies youre right, youre not a hoe... but you are wearing a hoes uniform."

With regard to your story of your neighbour; I feel like there are two schools of thought in these matters.
1) is; avoid temptation, ensure your spouse or significant other avoids temptation and everyone will live in matrimonial harmony.
2) is; if this union is weak enough that temptation and/or jealousy can crush it, then perhaps this union isn’t worth the paper it’s written on…
I’m very much of the second school of thought. It’s probably why there are very few really good marriages anymore because people shack up and then wrap around each other like an anaconda, to make sure no other “predator” gets a bite but also slowly squeezing the life out of each other.
I’ve had relationships where temptation killed it - aren’t I better off that it didn’t work out than trying like hell to hold on to something so intrinsically weak?

Interesting. I had once made friends with a neighbor. He was a troop leader for boy scouts and his kids were my kids age. So after a few weeks, he invites my family over for dinner. Cool,so we walk over and have a nice dinner. He had just remodeled the house. So we got a nice home tour. Then we had some discussion about work etc. His wife is an Engineer and so am i. So we began discussing Engineering stuff. After about ten minutes I balanced over at him and I could see he was pissed off. So I changed topics then shortly after we left. Never talk to us again. Not even at the boy scout troop meetings. Opps. I had zero interest in his wife. It was just a case of being able to talk shop and have the other person actually understand.

About your neighbor, it's her fault, because when you know someone you like and then get to love that someone and, although you both have different interests, you should get to know your partner interests and participate in them, so ur interests become his, and his become yours and, since she never did that for him, when he spoke to you and saw that you both shared the same interests, obviously he got excited, because his girl doesn't do that for him...

There was a big story around me where a little girl lost her dog by someone who ran straight through a red light and never eve slowed down. Her brother was on the other side of the road and saw it happen. also.
I've got a FB Friend that's a DT. She's a teacher in her early 40s, and still pretty attractive, and she'll post these suggestive pictures on FB, but then say she don't need no man. She's happy being single with just her child. She's from up around the St. Louis area on the Illinois side.

Losing a beloved pet is hard. Try to remember all the good stuff/time and remind yourself to be grateful for the time they were with you, can help with grief.
Concerning the jealousy, after telling the story of that wife uninviting you. Does that give you a clue why "being aware" of it might not be enough ? As they say, admitting a mistake without trying to correct it is equal to making a second mistake.
PS Well, i know how algorithms work and that you are inevitable flooded with thirst traps if the site has identified you as a heterosexual male capable of an erection. Sooo, there is not really anything a guy can effectively do about it. Arguable it is different if the guy knows the girl personally, but especially in this case he knew her for ten years. What does this tell you given the whole situation ? For ten years they did not hook up, at least she did not hook up with him. Even if he would not decline hooking up with her or really, really wants to, the chances are slim.
As long as you do not consider yourself (as the girlfriend in this) to be the absolute dreamwoman (physically) of your man, this will happen all the time. Guys don't love their woman any less because of this. This also does not mean "to settle". It is just what it is, in the end it does not make a big difference, or any at all, if he knows her.
It boils down to being insecure about the relationship, which often comes from being insecure about yourself or the feelings your guy has for you. That is what jealously is always at its core. You want to "exclusively own" the person, instead of seeing things how they really are. The guy is freely and willingly giving himself to you, affection, attention, all the stuff coming with a relationship and that is worth much more then "owning" him would ever be. If you could be absolutely sure about him, if you could be absolutely sure about his affection, his attention, it would be worthless.
It only becomes precious the moment he has an option but does choose you in spite of that, it is special because he has a free will, because he could choose someone else any second, but he does not.
Of course 1st off. I would like to give you my sincerest condolences about your cat. The only thing that makes me sad for you is I simply CAN NOT wrap my head around why you aren't married. You're marriage material and I hope put more effort into finding your person..

I can attest to that. I was in an online relationship with a Filipino girl for 18 months and she was VERY jealous. She'd flip out if I talked to any other female in public. Including restaurant servers. It got to the point where I just trolled her about it. I would say, "I talked to [so and so] today." And she'd flip out. But then at the end of our relationship, I found out that she may have been cheating on me the whole time with another dude in the States from the dude himself. He said that he was with her for about as long as I was. So between that and a bunch of other snowballing problems I had with her, I just told her, "Hey look, thus isn't working out and we need to go our separate ways."
Everyone is responsible for their own actions and beholden to the consequences, good or bad. I think your neighbor is being irrational, but I understand and sympathize with her territoriality. As you said, you can be a jealous and possessive person, so just put yourself in her shoes.
Personally, I live by the golden rule. If you have a certain expectation of respect from me, then I expect the same from you. Just as the level of respect I expect from you, I in turn reciprocate.

About the thirst trap, I am a conservative libertarian and believe that when I went in the army and did my duty to protect free speech. That this was the decision of free speech regardless of if imagined with it. As long as they are happy and not harming anyone or anything else then do what they want to do. However, as a woman she should know how that may look to othet women. At that point it is affecting someone else's lives. We all should think of the effect we have on others.
