I was fishing a week ago ,the lower dam end clear 58 temps no bites. I went to upper end stained 50 water temp caught a few smallies up there ,it had current flow.
Can you do a map study maybe pick three random small bowl shaped lakes maps what you’re looking for for small mouth and small mouth baits for cold water baits crank baits small swim baits moving baits cold water smallmouth Love the channel just subbed
Seasonal summer winter smally map study you wouldn’t believe me if I told you the brown ones I’m on and I’m in Florida strain bass country need more info on these fish can’t buy a bite on smallys in summer
This is interesting and I’ve never thought about it but is it because the sediment grabs the cool as you say? I’m not saying you’re wrong because I have no idea but to me it seems like it would be more about the light penetration. If sunlight is reaching deep into the water column it seems it would warm the water better. It actually seems like sediment might even absorb a little heat albeit probably not much and if so probably not very deep. Anyway interesting video and good tips.
Yeah I personally believe it has to do with light penetration and how it allows more of the water and bottom of the ponds to absorb heat from the sunlight and then during the night it gets radiated back into the water that would be cooling faster ( the surface water). In the stained water it would seem that the energy from the sun would only be able to heat the surface and a bit of shoreline but that would cool off during the night and lose more heat since it is exposed. Just my guess though, I have mainly fished stained to very stained fisheries all my life.
@ your hypothesis makes more sense to me. Seems the end result matches what Matt’s saying but I tend to agree with your logic as to why it’s happening. Basically the same logic I have.
It’s because the clearer water has vegetation which absorbs heat. Eventually it’ll be so cold and snowy the ice will have albedo and stay frozen, but initially when the ice is clear, the vegetation will still heat up.

not a bad idea

Thanks Matt... Great info. Love some (current) cold muddy water... The Spots and LM will flat choke a burned Trap in the shallows 😁
yes they will!
Awesome video on water freezing!! Very interesting facts on what water will ice up first. Say Safe & God Bless!! 🤠👍
Thanks 👍
That is cool and would be wild to see! How much longer till the clear water freezes too?
happening now
Wow, I feel for you buddy! Come on down to texas anytime, water temps were still unseasonably warm in the low 70s last week 😂
Other than trout, I've caught 1 catfish this time of the year. Thanks for the tips because people like me need the help.
Glad to help
What size jerkbaits do you recommend? Silent or noisy? Great video. Stay warm.
i like them all honestly, but really like the 100 and 112 sizes of the stunna lately!
Yep good job
thanks!

it very well could be the light penetration..in either case I believe its do to the sedimentation in the water

I’m heading out tomorrow mid to upper 30’s. Going to be a cold blast😊
Have fun!
Thanks Matt
