👍🏻 for the squish method. I save the chemicals for the bigger stuff that I’m afraid of.

Understand! 🙂 Which plants do you get them on? Annuals or butterfly bush?

@@GardenSanity I just got my first butterfly bush last fall, so we’ll see. I get the oak worms and aphids on my roses. Squishing is like a bonding moment with the plant.

😂 I like that way of bonding with plants. I do that with aphids too. But my personal fave (because it makes me feel so good every time I kill one) is killing grubs. Even if I only see 2 or 3 over an entire season, I hate them with a capital H. 😠

No wonder my butterfly bush didnt have the good flowers this year hmm I have to check this

Hmmm….definitely worth a check, however when you prune this year - hopefully that will remove most of any existing problem so you can start with a relatively clean slate, so to speak! 🙂

Thank you! Hmmm...I was already treating these worms on my wave petunias. I had never seen them on my butterfly bush. I used a neem oil concoction and killed the bud worms on the petunias. Ready to grab my flash light to see if I can find them on the butterfly bush! 🦋

Hi Cynthia, you inspired me to make this video! 🙂 Neem oil is a great choice for your petunias, as it won’t harm beneficial insects once dry. 👍 (I use Neem oil too when necessary.) But I didn’t include it in this video because Neem oil won’t do nearly as good a job as Bt will specifically on butterfly bushes. But I hope this video and my previous advice to prune them will greatly help you this season! 🦋💙

Hi. Love the video information about butterfly bush. I planted 2 in a place that I didn't know it would grow so large😮. I would like to know if they can be relocated? I live in Illinois zone 5. Please if you can help me i thank you in advance.

Yes Karen, you can definitely dig them up and transplant them to a better spot. 😀 They will have plenty of time for their roots to get established underground before the Winter sets in. 🦋

Thanks for making me aware that sun breaks Bt down.

I saw in an earlier video that your butterfly bushes are the variety True Blue. I dont see this available anywhere, may I ask where you got them?

Hello. I'm new jersey garden zone 7a. You suggest to prune the butterfly bush down to about 12 inches but what about the Pugster Series? I just bought a bunch last fall. They're currently about 12 inches.

Hi Robyn -- waving to you here in New Jersey! 👋 In my other video "Pruning Butterfly Bushes" I mention that if you have a dwarf variety, you should still prune them just a bit, but not as much as you would need to do for larger varieties like the ones I have. Since this is your first Spring and Summer with these new Pugsters, I don't think you need to prune them at all if you don't want to. Let them fill out and show you what they look like for this first season, and then next year in the Spring you can prune a bit off -- perhaps a few inches from each branch, plus remove any crossing or diseased branches if there are any. (That's what I would do if I had Pugsters.) Here's a link to my Pruning Butterfly Bushes video -- but like I said -- I think you're good for this first season to simply enjoy them! Give them some fertilizer, which I also cover in this video: th-cam.com/video/lHjNrPs3-oE/w-d-xo.html I hope this helps -- please keep me posted on how they look this Summer! 🦋💜
