- We did a video on Psy's "Hangover" a short while ago in which we talked about Korea's drinking culture. Well, here's something built just for that: it's an automatic Somek maker, that pours just the right amount of Soju and Beer at the same time. If only we could get this thing to work...

Tilt the cup and put the bottle as near as possible to the cup. No foam :)

I learned that as a 16 year old girl serving the bar at our high school outing. Yes, America, 16 and 17 year olds, on a school outing, drinking alcohol. And boy did our teachers get pissed too. :P

Simon you didnt pour it right , you should always tilt your glass when pouring beer prevents it from foaming and giving you so much head. Which prevented you from filling the glass properly.

You're supposed to pour beer so it hits the side of the glass to minimize foam. So you have to tip the glass the beer is going into a little bit.

Hum, why don't you try tilting your glass a little? Since the instruction is saying 45° angle, you shoudln't pour it all the way down, the foam is definitely gonna form if you do. So maybe try it again?

You're not supposed to dump it in like you would anything else. You're supposed to carefully pour it in along the side of the cup or glass. That's how you avoid the suds.

Try tilting the glass when you pour in the beer. It will give you less foam and a better pour.

You hold the glass at an angle and pour the beer and soju. Beer will foam a lot if you pour it directly.

you're supposed to put the beer bottle's tip against the cup's edge!! almost no foam. this toy looks great
You need to angle the glass so the beer doesn't pour directly in but on its side. It will reduce the amount of foam forming on top.

You have to understand the background of the concept. Actually, how much beer to mix with soju does not matter. The concept came from Poktanju(bomb drink) that is beer mixed with whisky to make it stronger and get drunk quickly. Whiskys are imported and quite expensive in Korea. So it is regarded as a drink for the rich. Sojus are the cheapest alcoholic drink in Korea. Somek is a cheaper version of poktanju and you can feel like you are a rich guy who drinks at a luxurious bar/ restaurant with drinking somek.

In order to get minimal head you have to pour at an angle and slowly bring it back down.

You need to hold the glass at an angle too to avoid all that foam. Pour on the inside of the glass, not directly on the liquid.
