The problem is that your self taught. You have control of both bass and melody. Not hard.
This is one of my favorite songs, it brings back memories of high school after moving to the city. I was so shy and scared of people but the guitar class I took helped me so much. I played this song in front of my class which was the first time I was able to overcome my fears, I cried afterwards because of how supportive my whole class had been (I couldn't sing the lyrics - which we were suppose to do while playing - but the whole class (teacher included) started singing it as I played).
It's literally one of my most favorite memories....
I guess you could say they stood by me XD

Haha, I find it best to transcribe the lines separately then put it together other so you know what the overall rhythm is of both parts

Melody always is on the chords used in song you just need to memorize notes on chords
