Great review! I have the MX-9 and was also looking at this helmet for commuting on my KTM 1090. The MX-9 was awesome when riding off-road in the heat of Death Valley but anything above 60 mph, the buffeting is awful. Glad to hear the X2 is smooth at speed!
this was on sale 50% at motostorm too bad I missed out on it :x, I bought klimkrios pro and arai x5. if the new hornet comes will probably buy that too but i hope they change the peak design to be not too big so it wouldn't be a problem putting it inside a top box.
tbh not too happy with arai tour x5 it's so buffety on not so fast speeds even though I have tall windscreen on my bike already, the klim krios pro is amazing so far, quite and so light.
Love the X2 Hornet! I’m more medium oval/narrow and ride mostly road. The Tron look is cool too. I keep the visor on and buffeting not annoying enough to necessitate removing it. Solid choice. Agree on your points. FWIW. I’m bald with larger ears. I wear a thin skull cap. The helmet glides on and off without irritating ears. No fussing or adjusting to straighten out under the helmet either, if folded down on you. The ears stay in place.
Thanks for the feedback, mine is a touch snug getting it in but once in its very roomy on the ears and so comfortable. Not a helmet that I would want more tbh. The Klim and Arai are great too but this one just fits me so well
Just about to move on to this or an Arai XD-5. Everything keeps pointing back to this helmet, especially what I've heard about the noise levels in the XD-4 and XD-5. Great review!
tbh the arai x5 is quite a let down, the buffeting is harsh even when i am using a tall windshield, it shakes your gead and ruins your vision it's so noisy too, it's great for offroad probably s it has great ventilation, but the klim krios pro tops it imho, and probably the new hornet too when it does come out, but i hope they change the peak design it's too huge and protrudes a lot would probably make it hard to fit in a box in my experience witg ls2explorer carbon which has same peak protrusion, can't wear that helmet as the shell shape was long oval and not glasses friendly.
@@metalsadman thanks for the feedback, I love my Hornet x2 and will run it until it’s no longer safe to do so. Very much looking forward to the X3 when it finally comes out
@@metalsadman I ended up with the Arai and haven't experienced the buffeting issue. Different heads, different body positions maybe? I am coming from a Bell MX-9 Adventure and, by comparison, the Arai is an entirely different animal. It has been very comfortable and quiet enough that I no longer have issues being heard with my comm system. You listed a lot of good helmets, but I would avoid the Klim, just because they charge a subscription for their airbag vests.
Last week went helmet shopping since my Shoei hornet ds was definitely getting aged, wore shoei for years In Motocross, for some reason the new hornet x2 fit me terribly, just putting it on was a pain, not sure what changed in the shape? Ended up with the arai xd5, also for both brands if I follow the sizing chart ,I suppose to fit the lg, way too tight, xl fits good, i think the chart runs in the tighter side of things.
The helmet is shit! First ride and upper visor is microscratched including pinlock, because it rubs on the upper seal when you open and close the visor. Those scratches are a safety liability as are impairing your main field of view. During the day all you see is foggy because of them, and during night time you must keep the visor open otherwise you cannot see. More then that, the pinlock pins are catching the upper visor seal EVERYTIME you open and close the visor. It is just a matter of time until the seal will be ripped off. Did not expect such things from a top line helmet. There are more things that are bellow average at this price but these mentioned are the most dangerous and frustrating. Again, we are payng the brand and not the qualitY of the product.
That’s rough, my experience has been nothing but positive and for what I paid was completely worth it. It’s not perfect, but for what I do it has been a great upgrade from my Bell
@@mindful_moto i was expecting so much and i was soooo disapointed. And the funny part is, a coleague of mine also got one about the same time and has the same problems. 503 euros lost ( got the ktm theme one), have no idee what to do to make it usable. If i replace the visor, it will get scratched also from day one...
@@4riders I paid $500 shipped and it came from Europe it was a few years old , it was in the box and had never been opened. Sounds like you have a newer one, I’m wondering if they’re having production issues nowadays.

It’s much better at speed, and so much quieter. Take the visor off and it’s very close to a streebike helmet in terms of aerodynamics
If the new Arai adv helmet isn't here in the US in the next couple months I'll definitely pick this up. great video
I think Shoei should have a new one here too! Can’t go wrong either way

It is definitely a pain to get on, this does get slightly better when broken in. Enjoy the Arai, they make amazing helmets too
You can take the shade off and use it like normal street helmet
Yes, it’s very good as a street bike helmet
What helmet radio are you using with the helmet? I'm looking to get one for this same helmet.
It’s a Cardo packtalk edge
I am riding with this and the XD4. This is super quiet than my XD4.
Thanks for the feedback, it really is a quiet helmet
@@mindful_moto Exactly. Was expecting both brands will be equal, noise wise (at least..)
But both got their pros & cons. Happy with both brands.
I ride with the lg XD... would I need XL for the Shoei? Looking for a quieter helmet.
@@dreamwhileyousleep I would look at the size charts in Shoei’s website to be sure
Klim... you mean milK!😅

@@mindful_moto no ideea if there are produsctio issues but we now have 2 helmets we almost cannot use. I'll make a detailed video about it soon!

How was the sizing? I am at 58cm and sized at Medium. Is there some packing out in the liner?
I’m a small and it fits me great, I know with the Arai XD4 you can remove part of the liner, I do not believe it can be done on the Shoei
