im only 27 and feeling the same way - jaded and numb. my 9-to-5 involves a lot of writing and by the time i reach home at night or have some space on the weekend to journal, my brain is drained. just navigating this bizarre adulthood and accepting that it is what it is… but then my inner voice constantly bugs me, “is this all there is to life?” i feel ya, nathan, i feel you.
pinning this because i think it holds a great deal of reality in our now. glad we feelin this out together!!! 🫂🫂🫂 wishing you a good healthy start to your week
I rewatch Howls Moving Castle every year when it’s summer as some sort of tradition so that’s definitely a favorite! but I also love the Wind Rises and Porco Rosso. One Studio Ghibli film that I never really enjoyed was Ocean Waves partially because it wasn’t directed by Miyazaki and like you mentioned the forced relationship between the two characters. The main character had more chemistry with his best friend than the love interest 😭
Howl’s Moving Castle is also wonderful! the world building in that one is immaculate 👨🏻🍳💋 and Ocean Waves i loooove all the write ups and essay videos ppl have on the homoerotic relationship in that one 👀👀
I am out here adult-losering with you Nathan :)) I have never been big on comparison with other people but it's mostly in a "I have disappointed my child-self" way and not being where I imagined myself...Lots to unpack in therapy !!!!! I am trying to think about myself less though and more about the world around me. It helps a lot to decenter oneself, to enjoy the people and things that surround us. A loser can still have love and beauty and friendship :) Thank you for always being so candid in sharing your thoughts 🤍
i've been thinking of this too in layers. i think if my childhood self saw me now, he would nitpick the wrongs so quickly. but i hope he sees the love, the beauty and the friendships that have passed through me. and i hope your younger self sees all of this too
intro was beautiful and so was this whooole video. just turned 32 and feeling like a major loser thanks for this video it truly made me feel not so alone lol
You are definitely not an adult loser. "Adult" is largely a concept imagined by children. It's kind of doesn't exist. I remember as a kid thinking how much fun paperwork would be. Kids are dumb.😂 A long walk sounds like a great coping mechanism and so does a studio Ghibli fidget toy.
Oh my God. I love Veiled. I used to watch his ASMR channel all the time---way before he became a model and started vlogging fulltime. So exciting. LOL. It's always surprising to see how small the world is.
MOIST BOOK CONDOMS 🤢🆘 Ive been meaning to say for a long while that your references are so personal and it gives andre leon talley andy warhol like those scions of culture and you need to keep going and prove to not just those soggy dog biscuit bullies but your high school self that you were right you have always been right and this is what consistency looks like! Easier said than done? Exhausting? Yes, but what better way to live is there? How sweet it is to have the last word. ❤

Haha Levy can indeed be cringe but I appreciate that she gives herself the space to be quirky, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt. Her non fiction is lovely, especially real estate, and swimming home is imo her best fiction!
I love the thumbnail on this one. Deborah Levy…hot and cold on her writing but adore the Real Estate and Cost of Living. Losers…the only person that makes one a loser is oneself, right? what a beautiful vlog. 🥰🥰🥰
you can say that again! all a matter of perception, i guess! someone else had mentioned the Living Autobiography series and i will eventually get to them! maybe might be fun to mix in with the fiction!
I second this. It’s my favorite Ghibli. But my favorite Miyazaki is currently The Boy and the Heron…but the top 3 is always changing based on mood and time passing.
@@eileenchan5201 right there with ya! i think his latest is his most personal work...but my favs also seem to shift depending on mood! but will say, always in the mood for a Miyazaki!
oh no that levy citation is SO CRINGE. this is not helping me want to read her... we've talked about adult loserdom several times before, so you know this, but i feeeelll you. beautifully articulated in this video, though. i know this resonates with so many people fave ghibli: probably spirited away and ponyo? for food? not miyazaki, but i also remember liking whisper of the heart a lot
i'll probably hold out on my next Levy for a while! i can't stand the cringe! Spirited Away will always be a classic! i've rewatched it too many times to not count it as so.

I think August blue is my least favorite Levy I read. But I loved swimming home, the man who saw everything and all 3 of her memoirs
ooh! i always forget about The Man Who Saw Everything! do you rec i read that first? or Swimming Home? :0
Would recommend swimming home or her memoirs first! Curious if you like it! Thanks for the videos, I always get excited when I see you uploaded :)
