Great video .. I built a desk using your plans but made it with top shelves for my monitors as I don’t have room for separate stands .. I also used a solid oak desk top .. it looks great .. thanks again for your video, it inspired me to make my own desk without spending a huge amount of money
Hey man sorry to bother you but any chance you could email a set of plans the link above doesn't work for me my email is Drogers00@live.com I would really really appreciate it id like to build this .
@@vpetroi3 sorry for the HUGE delay in responding …. If I remember correctly, I was around £350 all in but this included the oak worktop … you could cut the cost with a cheaper worktop … hope this helps
Totally worth building it yourself. Pre-made is probably quicker but I've found that you never get exactly what you want. You always have to adjust your personal setup to what a desk manufacturer allows. Currently I'm working off a basic fold out table so I can figure out what works for me before I build something similar to what you have. Nice video and nice desk. Thanks.
Def gonna build this, with some modifications. Going to make it 8ft with an 18” right return and a 24” left return and a rear cable management channel. Will send the pictures when done!
Thanks for the inspiration. I am planning on building a desk for my studio, but will probably not make so much space for outboard gear, as I want to have space for two screens and have reduced my outboard gear to a bare minimum.
Tip: If your using a level to level and plumb your project, you have to make sure what it is sitting on is level, or you wont be square or level when it sitting on a level surface like your floor.
Nice desk, I'll make mine base on this design. Just a tip as I'm a construction worker. Using a leveling tool is fine if the reference surface is level. I have learned that the hard way at my first job site years ago! That balcony propably have a small inclinasion toward the outside the help the water evacuate the oposite side of the house. This one look sturdy, but you never know. Always check your reference surface as a mixing eng. use references tracks when using a leveling tool.
Good morning. I want to say that I followed your video and although I messed up on a few cuts and especially the rack space. I am in Love with my desk. Thanks for the video and the motivation.
Hey, I would maybe have gone with less depth on the front part of the desk surface, it's a bit of a stretch for me to reach anything at the top few rack spaces That's the main one I sometimes think of
@@ClaritoneAudio You could cut a section out of the desk top, in the front middle, so that you can scoot in closer, and just re stain/poly the cut. Round the outside corners on the cut, so you don't have sharp ends. Currently building a desk, and really like how you have the rack accessible from the top. Looks real nice man!!
@@AI-Consultant Just draw a design on the top of the desk, cut that out with a jig saw, and then go around it with a router if you want to smooth it out. You could use a "flush cut round over bit" if you want.
Great vid and really helpful for us studio guys on a musicians budget. Could you add rack spaces to the 2 front sides of the desk to accommodate more rack gear? How many inches is just the extended front part of your tabletop, where you rest your mouse and arms.
Quickly becoming one of my favorite TH-cam channel. Very nice Desk/Rack. I think if you have the tools, time and craftsmanship, this design is the way to go. Wanting to build the two side units for a mastering setup. Might extend to 12 rack spaces. Reshaping the side board slightly and applying the 1" X 8" perpendicular to the rack angle will allow for two additional rack spaces at the top. Thanks for posting...
Hey there, The desk is holding up nicely, racks are becoming fuller as time passes and the workspace is large. Beautiful desk you have, of course with the budget for a nice desk you can't go wrong :) Thanks for watching
+Sub Element Recordings desks here in Canada start at around 1000 for the absolute cheapest options made for studios. something with this size and rack space would be anywhere from 1500$ and up + the shipping costs of ordering a full desk :) so at least 50% cheaper I would say.
@@ClaritoneAudio That's a significant difference. Thanks for the info. I'm in the market for a new desk and have been playing around with the DIY option. I like this design. I would likely make a small modification for a touchscreen if I went this route, but this is probably the best DIY design I've seen around. Great work! Cheers!
+Sub Element Recordings totally ! and that's the beauty of it, you can play with it based on your needs and available materials. thanks, I'm very glad to hear that! good luck with yours, cheers !
Hi, I'm from Canada so I'm not sure if it will apply, but it was purchased at the hardware store Rona. If you find a piece that is slightly less deep it could work with little or no changes to plans. Width can also be adjusted of course, that's as easy as spacing the two bottom rack/support pieces further apart Good luck and hope you can make your own plans with what you find locally 🙏
I love this design because I'll be moving soon and this allows you to have the desk in manageable pieces. Thank you so much for the plans. I do plan to build this desk. The modifications I'm thinking of are to only have 6 rack spaces per side instead of 10 per side. And also to make the desk top a couple of inches shorter. I'm not sure how these changes will affect the stability of the desk, though. I may even put the two sides together with no space in-between to make it more compact. (like the Bazel Raystag desks) and then add a ledge behind the racks to hold the video monitor. This guy did something similar to this desk in Europe, using metric measurements with angled side pieces - th-cam.com/video/KTGrjkJs2gw/w-d-xo.html.
Step 2 shows and angled cut from the bottom foot (15 3/4) to the top arm (11 3/4). In the video this cut looks straight. Is there a reason you chose to do it straight instead of like the plans?
Hi, these plans were redrawn nicely after I built them from the original plans i scribbled down.. This was a change that was done then. If I would redo it i would add that angle as it looks nice and would also be more sturdy for supporting the countertop (not that there is sturdiness issues in either case) Hope that helps
😂 MDF? Man, diy has taken a new turn. At least you got great monitors! I guess your a nice guy for giving away the plans, for an email because nothing is free. 😂😂😂
If you can link me to a 300$ desk with 20 u of rackspace and a large work surface I'd be all ears :) but yeah it's a long process with some sweating involved
@@ClaritoneAudio Yes, it’s not enough, but 600+ euro would be good for me too, not having to do that labor. (And the result I know I am capable off ;) )
if you can link me to anything interesting/worth doing/revenue generating/fun/etc that is easier than applying three layers of non-oil based primer, i'd give you my ears. also you know what else is a long process with some sweating involved?? probably lots of things. i'm lazy AF but taking the time to invent ready made desks for 300 euros that don't exist with 20U of rackspace sounds like harder work than making writing this comment. nice desk btw

I would have kept this desk looking natural wood, that looked nice even when the primer was on it. Black made it look boring.. Anyway, i wonder what kind of wood is the lightest wood to use to make this?
nice one 🎉 next one please in centimeter 😂
finally someone built a desk that placed the computer monitor below the stereo sound field. nice work. I'll use this to build my new one rt now

I used an angle finder and it came to 65 degrees.
this changes based on the thickness of your desktop material.. you'll have to adjust all the cuts if you want to change the angle more than it is.
