      Your car may not be worth half a million dollars when you're finished but it will be worth the very highest end of what people actually drive. For as much sheet metal as you are replacing, you're doing an amazing job. You're getting things closer and better than most body shops would. Unless you would be willing to pay more than most every would. Your killing it man.👍

All us car guys go through a bit of suffering doing what we love best, and watching you restore your dream car slowly and with great effort surely goes down like a fine wine. I notice that even though you have a full program already, you still make time for your favourite project. If that doesn't help to motivate us, nothing will. Keep it up, buddy. You are making good progress!

  • @briandering4182
    @briandering4182 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    Jared...One more comment; For the roof panel, since it will expand and contract considerably in changing temperature as opposed to the roof ribs, you may want to consider a 'sealant' that will stay flexible. Modern panel bond will not do well. We used to use windshield sealant for the rib to roof panel adhesive (it used to be butyl but, I don't know if you can get that anymore). This would affix the panel to the ribs but, still remain flexible (like the windshield glass Vs. metal frame expansion and contraction as different rates). Just a thought. Otherwise silicone ADHESIVE would also be an option but I would go with the windshield adhesive. You may still be able to find it at a local NAPA store. The tube will fit a standard caulk gun. Good luck and thank you for your efforts to restore this classic MOPAR!

  • @joshm3875

    Jared, there are some expanding closed cell urethane foams used in the collision industry that are for exactly what you're looking to do between the roof skin and supports, 2 parts that apply with a caulking type gun and a mixing tip. 3m 8463 comes to mind but many make similar products. Pump it in there, it will expand and adhere between the layers and offer some support. Great work on this! Replacing any of those panels you've done is a big job. Once you do things like removing the package tray it turns into a whole different level. Excellent work in planning ahead to keep everything as straight and square as these old cars can be. My compliments on a very difficult and complex job.

    All props to Dwayne! Jared, as you know, trying to build a car from a pile of rusty parts, half of which have become "one with corrosion" is a bit of a chaotic experience. Dwayne manages to capture the chaos as well as keep the story line moving forward- so, well earned ! I don't think you give the condition of your shop enough credit- the perpetual mess looks exactly like my home shop always did when any work was being done. I think Tavarish has discovered that as well- either he is spending more time on the road of late or less time cleaning up last months debris than last year.

Just think, if you were to buy one already restored, who knows what shortcuts would have been taken, and what surprises would have awaited you. I once bought a beautiful 84 D150 for a couple grand thinking I got a great deal. It always felt strange while driving though. I could feel the odd weight imbalance in the truck. After the accident destroying the truck, I learned that I wasn't at that much of a loss. Both bedsides front to back were nearly 1/2-inch Bondo on the driver's side, and 3/16 on the passenger side. Clecos were designed by the aircraft industry, primarily for joining aluminum together, to align everything for riveting. Their intended use is for tight tolerance alignment, not a strong bond that you can push and shove against. Force fitting steel body panels, built to very loose tolerance like Jared is using, requires a much tighter bond like a screw or temporary spot weld.

    Jared, at 18:00 I have an idea, the camera might be using infrared sensors for the auto focus and it's triggering the auto darkening on the welding hood.

    Consider putting sunroof drains in the bottom corners of the rear window channel to help prevent future rot.

    The camera's Infrared flash is likely the culprit for the welding mask flicker. If you've ever looked at a security camera, you've probably seen the dots which look like LEDs around the lens. Those emit IR light in a dark environment, to act like a flashlight only the camera (and other IR sensors) can see.
    The welding mask's sensor is an IR light sensor, so when you shine the camera's IR flash at the helmet, it thinks it is seeing an arc from welding, and darkens. Lots of Cell Phones don't have perfect IR filtering, so if you record the front of your camera, you may see a pinkish glow from the night vision flash.

    don't worry about using the welder you got, mine was $100 with a Harbor Freight coupon and got stolen before I ever got to use it.

    DEFINITELY going to want to swap out that front suspension for a dual gas strut fork. It's night and day, and is something you can easily do in a single video.
