  • In Senegal, the Acacia project has involved the planting and managing of Acacia forests in arid lands helping combat desertification while providing life-changing benefits to local communities. With two thirds of the African continent now classified as desert or drylands and desertification affecting a quarter of the world's population, the breakthrough has the potential to transform the lives of vulnerable populations

    Africa is definitely not a disaster! Africa is a very large a fruitful continent that needs the right person to steward those resources and show them the right path.

    quite the contrary to being a disaster it is such an amazing place filled with so many natural resources that greedy uninformed people have taken advantage of it, leaving it in very bad disorder. with proper management nature will take over and with astounding result! nature has tremendous healing power, especially in a place as rich and fertile as africa.

    Obviously the various acacia trees are native to the tropical semi-arid climate the Sahel. Planting the right species of trees is OK, but not enough.
    Before you pass judgement at least you should watch Allen Savory's presentation on TED 2013.
    I believe he does show a success story somewhere in the Sahel where they brought back grass vegetation with holistic management of grazing.

      His terminology makes me wince, but it's a good approach. "Mob grazing" and "intensive managed grazing" are less goofy terms. He didn't invent it--not even close.

    Grow peanuts too, the gum price will go down and the peanut price will go up. and reverse. prices are never stabil, one plant growing is not good enough for your future.

      ***** Yes! One option is to maintain grasslands with bison- According to some paleoecologists there may have been as many as 60 million grazing the tall and short grass plains before the white man came. They are both hard to manage and dangerous but, what better use for all those up armored Humvees the Iraqui Army ran away and left to ISIS.p.s. We had a wolley mamouth skull and tusks at the univ.just south of Monterrey, Mexico where I used to teach- :-)

    • @Syntaxerrortwenetyone
      @Syntaxerrortwenetyone 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not to be a nerd, but the reason they are only planting gum and acacia trees is because acacia trees are native and make the soil fertile, and gum trees are used to make money.

    Anybody thst says it was "climate change" that caused this problem is lying to you. Here's three facts that debunk the "climate change" claim:
    1. The earth is supersaturated with respect to the spectral absorption of water vapor and CO2, so any additional CO2 is not going to make a difference--we're already at 100% spectral absorption, and
    2. The estimation variance of the General Circulation Model used by "climate scientists" working for the UN to predict the earth's climate overwhelms the estimate, rendering the models useless and criminally suspect! Redistribution and control are the UN's objectives.
    3. CO2 only makes up 1% of the greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere but the UN and their "climate scientists" don't want you to know that, or you'll question their conclusions about CO2.
    And you should not only question their conclusions, but seriously doubt them.
