Not trying to interfere with your sleep routines, but check Andrew Huberman videos: studies have shown that any light before sleep (not just blue light) affects sleep effectiveness. It might be better to just hear the content... Have a nice sleep!

9:45 if you get bored with introduction
The lecturer is doing very well to deliver this lecture in English. My compliments Madam.
Lecture starts at 9:10
thank you
You do God’s work!
😘
Thanks!

This man is hilarious, delightful, witty, acerbic, a man above the information presented. The audience just barely laughs, completely unaware that they don’t have to be terminally bored just because they are listening to a museum guy talk about board games.

Great video- It's nice to see some serious work on the history of playing games with others. Too much is made online, especially You Tube, of people who enjoy playing with themselves.
I've been binge watching Irving, one of my favorite historical presenters for sure.
Mm

Thanks man 😂
Woke up to it too and am thinking the aliens have something to do with it. Sending me a private message 🤣🤣🤣
Had no idea this was a Finkel presentation!!! I'm totally fangirling.
On the off chance of being peeky- I think Finkel NEEDS to be in the next Jumangi Movie.
This is so interesting. What excellent speakers and researchers!!! It amazing how they pieced together these games and figured out how they were played. It's nothing less than amazing. Thank you all so much. I am watching it again right after my first viewing of it I am enjoying it so much.
Thank you for being that way too.
I love this guy, so comical and so bright. And I love that his academia isn’t white-washed.
This is so interesting! Thanks you so much to the speakers for giving these lectures, and to the MET for making them available!
Starting at 9:00 unless you're fond of incessant intros.
Yeah, detail over enthusiasm seems the rule.
Thank you !😊
thank you
Love Finkels little dig at this fact.
During geometry class my friend and I played a similar game on our lined paper. 10 lines dotted 10 times. Connect the dots one bar per turn initial your completed squares, which could only be all four sides in your mark (pen vs. pencil) could get in two games in a half hour lol 😊
Is this guy where they got stueys accent from?
this is an amazing video. Thanks for sharing
Fascinating.
Between Dr. Finkel's opening observation of new players asking "What if...?" and the tale of Nicobar-chess, I'm reminded of an error of my own and a fun set of open-to-debate rules:
1) When I first ran into Conway's 23/3 Life, it was in Piers Anthony's "OX", and my copy had a skipped (empty) row in one of the illustrations. The rules weren't explicitly outlined therein (nor in an appendix), and I had no knowledge of where else to look. You can only imagine some of the quirky rules I conjectured to reverse engineer things from the patterns that were given.
2) The rules of "Thud" (from Terry Pratchett's "Discworld" series), and possibly "Koom Valley Thud" (I don't remember for sure) aren't 100% unambiguous and comprehensive. If you go through them and bump each against the next, or read the _exact_ wordings pedantically, you can come up with a number of variations to each (not precisely exploits, more like interpretations).
It's cool to find someone else that did that

I can't believe how people don't see it.
Don't see it? What?
Until 39.00 I really thought that there was no audience at all. How can it be that a group of people seems to be immune to a rhetorical genius like Irving Finkel. Maybe they had to sign a document promising not to laugh even when the lecturer is really funny before entering the hall. Strange.

The met, the sphinx was a basenji before it get re carved! The basenji answer to the riddle has it have 4 paws, 2 at lunch, to smell the food and 3 in the afternoon has it's their watch turn and they can not go for a nap and to conserve their energy for when it is really needed! The spinx was watching the leo constellation, just like basenji were keeping a watch on lion to keep villages safe! The spinx is ready to strike! Go figure why there is plenty of dog at the Giza! Basenji are a pure breed and with the desert growing they must have move south to Congo! Basenji have curly tell like in the egyptian carving/pictures, a chacal is wild, basemji have primitive human's way, has in basic ways of beeing!
The game your were talking about being like a dog also related to the sphinx, must have been a basenji too! ;)

p.s: On my picture it is my basenji!
Very interesting. Thank you for sharing and I love your beautiful dog.

Fell asleep 🥱 to Graham Hancock and woke-up 😮 here @ 1:00:12. 😴
Veri important
Audio is so low can't hear it.
The Irving man is a wizard with great powers. Luckily for us he is only throwing the forces of humor and likeability out into the world or we might be doomed to a greater extent than currently is the case...
is this the new cavernous cove monster?
Yes
13:00 🕐 bookmarking for myself to show my dad
Why introduce someone to introduce someone and waste 9 minutes ?
Just go straight to Irving Finkel...9:09
Anna Contadini is she the pvoice behind all those footages of megalith stones and temples. Stating that the anciens must have had lost technology and that somebody must have cancel or add centuries, milleniums to our history time Line? Is she that woman ? The tone of her voice is exactly the same.

You don't have to be a genius and do a lecture, to know that global communication was a fact. Just like you said about the boardgame, they made their own interpretations. Why u think they are pyremids on every continent.
There are tons of things found around the world that *seem* to be built by the same people. So much so that I actually think a large group split into several small groupss and spread out around the world taking skills and info with them.
There's really specific things like masks in China and South America both made with two materials

With all due respect, Brittish history is sometimes marred by their conceptualized "re-discovery" of artifacts, lands, and people, with subsequent make-believe narratives which can be constantly changed at whim by varying "re-discoverers."
The history of man paints our very specific migration of ethnicity and culture across the globe. Considering that certain cultures in Africa, where man began his journey, were conquered, plundered, and whose artifacts were destroyed and reclaimed, I cannot rely wholly upon the good sir's research, as it seems to refortify the Museum's ever tight grip on "acquired" items and its possible retelling of history as it actually occurred.
He lost me at "Egyptian and Aziatic Barbaric," which seems to be in itself, an oxymoron. Honestly, we still havent figured out, from what the museums left over after their many raids, have to tell us of Egyptian technology and their very existence. I dont see them borrowing a game from India when the migration of man came from Egypt, crossed other continents, and eventually came BACK around to India. He seemingly says it with such disdain, as if he is certain that the Egyptians' version of a game was in fact "Barbaric."
Hmmm... So far, this is all that TH-cam has to offer as far as documentaries on the subject. I challenge everyone to keep researching as I will.
Irving Finkel's reference to a "Babaric game" was obviously humorous, especially after he's already shown his deep interest and respect for the game and it's history.
Originally Finkel wanted to be an Egyptologist but chance changed his career. He always makes a jokes about Egypt its his thing, he doesn't really believe they were barbaric.
