Good Sunday Dec. 4th from 🎌❣️ Mrs Bryan this LESSON is like a PRESENT of the ADVENTSKALENDER‼️ I am soooo THANKFUL for your patient and teachings❣️ There is soooo much to learn to make a project turn out nice. I noticed one of the comments is dated back 4 years ago. Glad I m still able to watch it and I am so much looking forward to trying this it in some projects for my granddaughter. I like it best watching videos Take care and stay safe. I admire you soooo much. ❤
I'm sure it sounds dramatic, but this video was just short of life-changing. Thank you for demonstrating such simple tips to improve the finish of a button band!
Lol, you are not being overly dramatic at all, when you've been frustrated and something comes along that helps....it can make a bad day so much better!!
I admire how you always come so well prepared with many samples of what to do, and what not. Always clear and precise advise. Thank you for making my knitting easy, Suzanne!
WOW! I have been knitting for 2 months. I hope I need this video someday- way over my skill level. I appreciate the way you teach. I am envious of your granddaughter - what a great instructor she has! I love to knit and want to learn. I am going to learn a lot from you. Thank you.
Thank you for posting this - very clear instructions and great educational value. I especially appreciate that you carefully show how to pick up the stitches, specifically pointing each part of the stitch and where to put the needle. I hope you make a video about seaming knitwork one day. It's probably the most difficult, messy and scary process about knitting for me!
Thank you for showing the weaving ends in part - too many times I've seen a video or a pattern that just says "weave in ends" but doesn't go in to detail on what method they have used or which ones could work for the project at hand.
Absolutely Love your tutorials. I love your style you are straightforward. Also you are correct and I have not found anything that is not a value. I’m so grateful that I found your channel. I am 85 years old I’ve been knitting since I was 10 years old. I loveknitting I needed all alongHowever in the 50s and 60s there was no channels like yours and I just made my own way of doing things which wasn’t too bad but not really correct so I truly love your channel it is help me learn so many new things keep on with your channel we can’t do without yo😢u.
Hi Carmen, I’m 64 years old and just started knitting! I hope to be 85 one day and still knitting. I love it so much! Ms. Bryan’s videos are wonderful! ❤
Cannot thank you enough for this great video. I had started a vest for my grandson and realized I had not saved the last page of the pattern that told me how to add the button bands, the next and the arm hole finishes. Thankfully you have videos for all those issues and the vest is now complete AND it fits. Made me look like I knew what I was doing. This video saved me from having to start over with another patter. I’m subscribed!!! So glad I found you.
While finishing my first cardigan I never thought I would find the answer to such questions of fine detail and am very grateful to you for your instruction.
Thank you for showing me this multiplicity of tips and techniques to finally make a professional-looking added-on button band. I GET it now! Thank you so much!
Lovely tutorial! I learned tunisian crochet before knitting and had to figure out this kind of math for myself. Can I just say - everybody should get a tunisian hook whatever size they most often have to pick up stitches, in their knitting, especially if you use interchangeable circulars and can just swap your hook for needle when you're done. It's so much faster and easier, especially with tiny little stitches, or tight knitting.
This is the video I was looking for. I love how you explain the consequence for too many or too few pick up stitches and what it would look like so we know how it will look even before we do it ourselves.
4 years later and still so helpful. I’ve been getting frustrated trying to figure out the math for my button band on my first raglan cardigan. I might have to restart my pick up. But worth it.
I’ve knitted for many years but I’m finding something new and useful every time I watch your videos. Thank you so much for all of your assistance and interesting information.
I am in a place in a sweater project where I needed some of this information to create a good button band and, I suspect, will similarly need your video on creating the button hole band. Had already figured out some of this, but not the extra stitches to square off the end of the band. Duh! I am looking forward to the button band video to complete this part of the project - and likely the next project. ALWAYS find your videos beautifully instructive. And timely. Not sure how you do that, but thank you for your great teaching and sense of timing. BTW, your pup and granddaughter in the background is charming. Take good care.
Thank you so much for this video! I found it very helpful to make a neat button band. (And as a grandmother- I loved hearing your little granddaughter calling for you!)
Whatever project I have coming up, I know where to find the best info to review before starting . Your videos have eliminated many hours of frustration and disappointment for me. I sincerely thank you.
I am doing my first sweater and I had no idea what my instructions were telling me to do. This video saved my sweater. Many thanks. I appreciate you more than you know
Absolutely EXCELLENT! How can there not be loads of comments on this?! :) I'm at the stage of a sweater that I am knitting in which I have to add the button band. I've looked books but figured I would check out a video TH-cam video for a more visual explanation. One of the first videos to come up was Suzanne Bryan's. I've watched a number of her videos in the past, and KNEW this would be a wonderful explanation-- and visual demonstration. And.... it WAS! Outstanding!! Thank you again Suzanne. You are my hands-on teacher! I haven't watched your videos for a couple of months. But now when I see this video, I'm reminded of how I need to check in with you (smile) more often. Just excellent. Thank you so much. So exceptionally well done -- with explanations that make sense and close-up images that keep me attentive and nodding in understanding. "Yes, I get it!" Thank you.... thank you... thank you for your generosity in sharing your knowledge. :) No strings attached -- just your love of knitting and teaching! :)
Your teaching style is excellent, Suzanne! Thank you for taking the time to prepare examples of work that has room for improvement, explaining the actual errors made, and then so competently and efficiently showing how to plan ahead for every needed detail that will make our work better than it was! I also love that you do the math and show how important it is to take the time to make measurements and calculations. So many people get turned off to knitting because pattern instructions assume people know the finer details of knitting, when they don't. Maybe pattern writers should just say "Suzanne Bryan has a video for that!"
Thank you for clear verbal and visual instruction here - easy to follow. Particularly liked the idea of rib using 3 knits at each end of 2 knit/2 Purl rib.
Fabulous explanation ! I will never thank you enough for all your invaluable videos that guide me to improve my knitting. From the bottom of my heart, a huge thank you from Switzerland.
What a big help this video is! Thank you very much. I also enjoyed hearing your granddaughter calling you. Her little voice made me feel like I was visiting you in your home.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! You are a huge lifesaver! I was nervous about finishing my first ever garment (a cardigan), but this tutorial and your other tutorial on weaving ends in a cardigan really demystified the process. Starting and ending with K3 for a 2x2 rib is a brilliant game-changer tip that I haven't seen anywhere else!
You're such an amazing woman. I'm a beginner and your video helped me a lot to finish my cardigan. The way you explained the whole process, without rushing, was wonderful. Thank you so much
What a wonderful tutorial. I have knitted all my life and struggled with d.k. button bands curling in. Infact I started making jumpers instead to avoid disappointment 😢. After watching this thorough well explained lesson I shall try again. Thankyou so much.
Dear Suzanne, thank you so much for sharing your years of experience and knowledge with all 75k of subscribers! You have provided us all with a wonderful shortcut to excellence!
I usually only watch TH-cam videos when I need to learn a certain stitch to make a pattern. But I have started watching yours just to learn basic knitting principles for planning and better overall outcomes. I will likely start my third sweater ever in 2021, and I’ll be sure to watch more like this and the trick about closing the underarm holes several times. These are incredibly helpful now that I have a little experience (messing up ha-ha) under my belt. Thank you!
This is the best video for knitters new to picking up button bands, especially the part about the ratio of stitches to pick up. Made my first attempt at a very long button band successful. Thank you!
Thank you so much for these clear and detailed instructions. This is so useful when you alter the length of a piece, making the stitch count suggested by the pattern to be no longer applicable. A million times, thank you!
You are so perfection! I think you are belong to your generations time who i respect so much! Thank you so much for your perfect knitting knowledge🙏🌹☀️
Thank you. In the past, I've picked up button bands with bad results, but following your advice, I just came out with a great, even button band. Thank you!!
Thank you for taking the time to explain and demonstrate slowly and clearly. I am knitting my first ever cardigan for my granddaughter and I had no idea how to approach the button band. I feel much more confident now. My next stop is your button hole band tutorial! Best wishes from a grateful viewer in The Netherlands!
You are so welcome, Judy! I'm sure your daughter will love her and cherish her cardigan. Thanks for sharing your experience, and best wishes from the U.S! ❤️
I have pinned your video after watching for both the underarm holes and button band for later viewing and sharing with my daughter! I wish I found you before, but such is my knitting journey 😀, now that I know better, I’ll do better, because of your very understandable videos. The swatch /gage is confusing to me, watching twice I realized you were measuring sts /rows per inch. Taking care of the ends could be it’s own video! I will recommend your videos to anyone who asks me for knitting instruction! Thank you!
I really understand when you demonstrate. I’ve been taught by pro knitters but left frustrated,I just don’t think my work is perfect. But I am getting perfect results doing it by your method. Keep putting on great tutorials. Love your accent xx
Thank you so much for explaining this. I have a bamboo cotton boat neck tee shirt and you go sleeve to sleeve then pick up the front and back Now I know how to make it even!! Thank you so much !
I learnt to knit when I was four years old, and have continued for almost 50 years. I always hated doing bands, this method is amazing. Just used it to finish a jacket for Christmas gift to my sister. Best Band I have ever knitted. Thank you. My only issue was being left handed. I picked up stitches left to right, then was ready to start on a RS row. Still worked perfectly. Thank you
Second time watching this video before starting a button band! My last one turned out beautiful after your guidance. Such an excellent tutorial!! Thank you Suzanne ❤
These tutorials are very clear and concise. I've been struggling with buttonholes for a long time and wish I had previously seen your methods. You have a complete way of showing how to get these done and also what size of buttonhole needed. Thank you so much - this has really helped me.
Thank you so much! It took 40 years but finally someone that has explained the button band so I can understand. Now I won't be redoing the button band several times before I'm happy. 🎉🎆
Susan...WOW!...Where have you been all of my life?!!...Well, maybe just the past 7 years when I rediscovered my love for knitting and that I was more crazy about the yarn, than just wearing the sweater....Susan, I think you have some of the best tutorials I've seen....and your fingers just move so smoothly...you and Eunny Jang...man, I tell you; I should be so gifted!.... You are the Barbara Walker of You Tube! Thank You so much for sharing your talents and expertise.....I really need videos like yours....what a difference! Now I know I can actually finish this vest and it will look like it's suppose to, instead of another episode of I Love Lucy! Please keep 'em coming! God bless you always! and have a Blessed and Love-filled Christmas and the Best New Year!
Your videos are just what I need for a long time. Clear and short instructions, magnified details, calm voice, without BGM. Far better than vague knitting books or other videos from big knitting companies. Thank you so much.
I am so excited about this. I have knitted all my life. Self taught since my grandma passed away. These lessons are making me a much better knitter. I LOVE it!
Thank you so much for this. I’ve crocheted since I was a child but I’ve only taken up knitting recently and am tackling a rather ambitious cardigan with an applied fisherman’s rib collar and I couldn’t for the life of me figure out how to pick up stitches along the selvedge or how to calculate how many. This was a lifesaver
Thank you so much for sharing your knitting experience with us. I just finished a button band using the measuring instructions you gave us. It turned out beautifully!!! You are a fantastic teacher!!!
I did not know that there was a way to figure out how many stitches when picking up the stitches on front of a sweater. I am sure it will make things easier for me from now on. Thank you ver much!
I never realized until watching this video, that picking up stitches could be done with a new piece of yarn! I always thought you had to pick up from what was laying there and it's always been messy. So I have learned yet another liberating piece of information! Thank you, also I like the way you work your ends in much easier and nicer looking.
You are very welcome Mel Smith. Thank you and Happy knitting. Be sure to check out my new channel for live-streaming - Suzanne - Off the Cuff th-cam.com/channels/QBgFUvQzjz1RUm9NsgEA1A.html
Such a great video! Not only was the instructions on picking up stitches so helpful, but so was the hints on ribbing and weaving in ends. Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial!
Thank you so much for this wonderfully clear and calm video. I was going mad trying to pick up stitches for a button band from a moss stitch piece which leaves a messy selvedge…. Your tip to pick up over the bars between the selvedge and the first column suddenly made it easy. And I didn’t know how to calculate how many stitches to pick up either; thanks so much.
This is the best instructional you tube on knitting. I love the precise method using simple arithmetic to create perfect edges! This would make a perfect 6 th grade math lesson to teach the kids a practical use of math. By the way , I’m a retired math teacher; I wish I had thought of this!
Thank you for a very informative tutorial. Your explanations were great and the filming to see exactly what you were doing were also great. Figuring how many stitches was always daunting and confusing. You made it clear and simple. Thank you!
I found your channel in the list of resources for TKGA Professional Knitter Certificate. I have only watched 2 and have already learned so much! All my friends think I am such a good knitter, but they don't see the spots where I have my little issues. I really appreciate your wonderful videos.
Suzanne, thank you for this great tutorial. I have been knitting for years, but not confidently. Thank you for the clear language, and great picture quality.
I always use the stitch/ row ratio from the stockinette part. And know I feel a little bit stupid. Of course I need to consider the stitch gauge of my ribbing. Also great tip with the 3 knit stitches and the start and end. Thanks for a great tutorial.
I'm a beginner knitter but absolutely love to knit already! Your video and explanation is amazing! I was searching how to pick up stitches on a stockinette stitch to add a rib trim to my sweater but I got so much more out of this video. You are so clear and share great techniques that I've been noticing I need to make the difference in a not-so-tidy project to a clean project. Thanks so much.
Thank you so much! This is the best tutorial on button bands, and probably the best tutorial on anything ever. I learned so much more than what I expected to hear.
Thank you so much for your fabulous tutorial. I have tried to do this for so long, so it was a great find. Never added a band like this before, so it's going ok at the moment. I agree with all that others that have added to this. Kind Regards & thank you from England.
Every minute of this video has useful information. Worth every second. Great explanations, super closeups on detail. No more ripping out and starting over for this knitter. Thank you for making it possible to be one and done with my button bands!
Brilliant! Brilliant! Brilliant! Suzanne, your technique, explanations and delivery are absolutely perfect! Thank you for your generosity sharing the wealth of your knowledge.
This was so informative! I am making my first cardigan sweater and now have the confidence to put the banding on the front. Thank you so much! I will be looking for your band with buttonholes videos also.
Thank you for this clear and detailed demonstration. The formula for determining how many stitches to pick up is really helpful. Also liked that you showed examples of common problems.
My gosh, this is so helpful! Now I can finally finish the 5 year old cardigan that just needs the button band put on. I had abandoned it because the pattern directions have the wrong amount of stitches to pick up. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial.
I have started a button up cardigan, and your video on the button band is the best I have seen. I will be reviewing it over and over so that hopefully I can make a good band. Now I need to see a video on the buttonhole side. Will look for one on your site. Thank you!
I agree with these wonderful grateful viewers. This video tutorial is STUNNING. Wow. What a neat professional looking button band. The extra knit stitch makes the difference as well as the exact gauge. I will try this on a sample until i get the hang of it and correct my mistakes. Impatient to get started but its midnite in France and will have to wait. Thanks a million for this fantastic well explained detailed super closeup video. Thanks for sharing and caring.. 👍👍👍💕
Excellent, and thank you! Happy knitting.
Great points and information. Thanks so much
Good Sunday Dec. 4th from 🎌❣️ Mrs Bryan this LESSON is like a PRESENT of the ADVENTSKALENDER‼️
I am soooo THANKFUL for your patient and teachings❣️
There is soooo much to learn to make a project turn out nice.
I agree with the kudos. Before I watched this, I NEVER chose a pattern if it had an applied button band. Now it is one of my favorite finishes.
After 40 years I finally know how to make a band. 😂
Thank you.
I have been having “button band anxiety”. Thanks for this video. Very clear and helpful. I’ll be knitting my first band today!
This video has given me confidence to pick up these stitches now. I’m no longer sweating bullets. Thank you Suzanne. You’ve saved me again!
Wonderful!
Best video ever. You have an easy but precise manner of teaching. Perfect.
Wow, thanks so much Gill! ❤️
I admire how you always come so well prepared with many samples of what to do, and what not. Always clear and precise advise. Thank you for making my knitting easy, Suzanne!
Thank you, Joanna, what a lovely complement! ❤️

I have two videos so far on seaming. Look in my playlist - th-cam.com/play/PLLKJ9GuhEEwmFpKtzR0XAPZxA6Ks7VCys.html
Thank you for showing the weaving ends in part - too many times I've seen a video or a pattern that just says "weave in ends" but doesn't go in to detail on what method they have used or which ones could work for the project at hand.
You are very welcome, Carolyn! I find that it is often the little things that make a garment more polished. 😊
Absolutely Love your tutorials. I love your style you are straightforward. Also you are correct and I have not found anything that is not a value. I’m so grateful that I found your channel. I am 85 years old I’ve

This is the video I was looking for. I love how you explain the consequence for too many or too few pick up stitches and what it would look like so we know how it will look even before we do it ourselves.
I'm so glad it was helpful!
Thank you for these teaching videos. You are a superb teacher, by the way. Anytime I have a problem, I come here for the explanation. Thanks😊
You are very welcome, Lizabeth! I appreciate your kind feedback; and great suggestion on the neckline series, I will add that to my to do list. ❤️
4 years later and still so helpful. I’ve been getting frustrated trying to figure out the math for my button band on my first raglan cardigan. I might have to restart my pick up. But worth it.
Yes, better to re pick up that to have a sweater that you are not satisfied with just because of the button bands. 🧶
Fantastically clear. Thank you. The math was a little scary, but the extra knit stitch tip was fantastic. Thank you Suzanne.
You are so welcome!
I find your videos and teaching techniques unparalleled...Thank you so much for your help...
You're very welcome!
The clearest and most thorough video I've ever seen on this technique. Thank you so much!
You are so welcome!
This video has given me the tools I need to confidently knit high quality button bands. I highly recommend this video!
Thank you, Molly, I really appreciate you support!

You are very welcome.
Thank you so much for explaining this. I have a bamboo cotton boat neck tee shirt and you go sleeve to sleeve then pick up the front and back
Now I know how to make it even!! Thank you so much !
Wondeful!
Thank you
Rock on! Happy Holidays.
Fantastic! This will stop me using the guess, pull out, keeping guessing method! So many fabulous tips. Thankyou.
Thank goodness the guessing game is over! 😉 Thanks so much for watching and for the great feedback! ❤️
Second time watching this video before starting a button band! My last one turned out beautiful after your guidance. Such an excellent tutorial!! Thank you Suzanne ❤
I love hearing this, Grace, thank you for sharing your experience! ❤️
Yours are by far the best tutorials!
Wow, thanks!
These tutorials are very clear and concise. I've been struggling with buttonholes for a long time and wish I had previously seen your methods. You have a complete way of showing how to get these done and also what size of buttonhole needed. Thank you so much - this has really helped me.
Glad I could help!
Thank you so much! It took 40 years but finally someone that has explained the button band so I can understand. Now I won't be redoing the button band several times before I'm happy. 🎉🎆
This is what makes or breaks your sweater. A lovely sweater can be destroyed by a misshapen button band. Happy knitting.
You are too funny. Thank you and happy knitting.
I LOVE it!
Thank you, that is my exact goal. Happy knitting.
Wonderful! 🧶
Thank you so much for sharing your knitting experience with us. I just finished a button band using the measuring instructions you gave us. It turned out beautifully!!! You are a fantastic teacher!!!
Yay, I'm happy to hear my video helped you turn out a beautiful button band! Thanks so much for sharing! ❤️

Excellent problem solving knitting lesson. Thank you.
You are very welcome, Clare! 😊
Such a great video! Not only was the instructions on picking up stitches so helpful, but so was the hints on ribbing and weaving in ends. Thank you so much for a wonderful tutorial!
Glad it was helpful!
You are very welcome! Happy knitting.
Thank you for showing how to make a button band! When I make a cardigan I will implement this technique.
You’re so welcome, K J! 😊
Excellent instructions! Using this on a placket sweater.
Wonderful, Karen! Thanks for watching and for sharing! 😊
This is the best instructional you tube on knitting. I love the precise method using simple arithmetic to create perfect edges! This would make a perfect 6 th grade math lesson to teach the kids a practical use of math. By the way , I’m a retired math teacher; I wish I had thought of this!
Thank you Gina Sweeney! Happy knitting.
Thank you Rae Vernel! Happy knitting. Good luck on your program!
Suzanne, thank you for this great tutorial. I have been knitting for years, but not confidently. Thank you for the clear language, and great picture quality.
Thank you! Happy Knitting!
This was a complete video about attaching a button band that fits and looks great. Thank you.
You're welcome!
I always use the stitch/ row ratio from the stockinette part. And know I feel a little bit stupid. Of course I need to consider the stitch gauge of my ribbing. Also great tip with the 3 knit stitches and the start and end. Thanks for a great tutorial.
I love learning new things too. Happy knitting.
The way you've highlighted each and every step, it's so very comprehensive. I think I've learnt much from your video. Thanks a lot.
Glad it was helpful!
Glad it was helpful! Be sure to subscribe to my channel! Thank you!
Thank you so much! This is the best tutorial on button bands, and probably the best tutorial on anything ever. I learned so much more than what I expected to hear.
Awesome, thank you!🧶
What a wonderful instructor and instructions! Getting getting to do my first steek and button bands. Very helpful.
Best video Ihave seen on picking up stitches for a band. Thank you!
You are so welcome, Rosemary! Thanks for watching and for the great feedback! ❤️
Thank you so much for your fabulous tutorial. I have tried to do this for so long, so it was a great find. Never added a band like this before, so it's going ok at the moment. I agree with all that others that have added to this.
Kind Regards & thank you from England.
I love your channel and hearing your grand daughter calling you just made me love it even more.
You are so kind, V-Ann, thank you!
Your explanations make so much sense and sure made a difference in how my baby sweater ended up. Thanks so much. Now i need the buttonhole video!
Yay! Happy knitting.
Every minute of this video has useful information. Worth every second. Great explanations, super closeups on detail. No more ripping out and starting over for this knitter. Thank you for making it possible to be one and done with my button bands!

You are very welcome Sarah Van Alstyne! Happy knitting.
I am just about to pick up a button band. thank goodness I found you before I started.
I'm happy you found me, Mamandemeeka! 😊
You are a Wonderful instructor, easy to follow! I will look for more of your videos! Thank you so much!!!
You are so welcome, Janet! I appreciate you watching my videos, thank you! ❤️
My gosh, this is so helpful! Now I can finally finish the 5 year old cardigan that just needs the button band put on. I had abandoned it because the pattern directions have the wrong amount of stitches to pick up. Thank you for this wonderful tutorial.
Glad I could help!
I've avoided making cardigan sweaters because of difficulties getting the button band right. Now I know how to correct my errors. Thanks
Glad I could help!
Excellent, clear lesson, much appreciated!
You're very welcome, Christine! ❤️
I have started a button up cardigan, and your video on the button band is the best I have seen. I will be reviewing it over and over so that hopefully I can make a good band. Now I need to see a video on the buttonhole side. Will look for one on your site. Thank you!
So very helpful! Often the detail you provide is exactly what I'm looking for. Thank you
Glad it was helpful!
