    So glad I found you, I am knitting myself a cardigan and have reached that point where I have to pick up stitches for the button bands and then the neckband. Eeeeek! Your video was most helpful and encouraging, thank you so much!

    Sooooo much more clear than other videos I've found. I'm glad I'm not the only one who divides! Thanks for keeping it simple, Hannah!

    Thank you, Hannah! I've always hated picking up stitches. I measure and divide as well but showing exactly which part of the border to go through, and how to add or lose a stitch or two without having to start again is fabulous. Thank you so much!

    Thank you Hannah. I ‘ve difficulty to pick up stitches. But if i knit two different size of yarn ,the roll and the stitches are different. What should i do .

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, the pattern should give all the details you’ll need, but you’ll basically need to add more stitches if you’re picking up with a thinner yarn, and fewer stitches if you’re picking up with a thicker yarn than the original piece. You could test on a sample, to find out the ratio that works. Happy knitting🧶

    What about if the length of the garment you’re knitting onto is too long to fit on the needle?

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve used a circular needle and multiple needles for this dilemma sometimes - when adding a border to a blanket for example. Just more from one needle to the next as you knit across, as you finish the stitches on one needle you’ll then have the spare needle to knit the stitches on the next one.

    ,I am picking up and knitting around neck, I have sewn the left shoulder seam instead of the right can I carry on or must i unpick seam and start with right shoulder seam as stated in paternity ?? Help

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Martin, one issue might be that you'll have the join showing on the outside if you're picking up in the wrong direction. If you're a left-handed knitter: you may have to adjust number of stitches you pick up across the shoulders; check if the sides are different, depending on whether the seam is sewn. Otherwise you should be good to go, it'll be the same number across the front and back just that you're going in the opposite direction. Happy knitting 🧶

    Would you work the button band the same way if you have slipped the first stitch of each row? I'm just learning, and my end of row tension is a little loose, so I slip the first stitch in each row to avoid big loops at the sides. However, I've just finished the body of my first raglan cardigan, an need to pick up stitches for the button band. Thanks in advance :)

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Lindsey White
      I would say yes. The thing is to try, and if it doesn't work - perhaps you need to go in one extra loop as you pick up the stitch for the band - be prepared to go back and retry. You should be able to tell whether it's working after a few stitches. So much of knitting, and life, is an experiment. We'll all find different things suit us better. Happy knitting!

  • @maxineellis5165
    @maxineellis5165 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    When you say you've done some calculations and you need 48 stitches picking up how did you work this out? Did you just count the rows? Thanks!

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Maxine, that was just me knitting a sample and not having a pattern to follow. Patterns will tell you how many stitches you need along the edges, but otherwise I look at the ball band and my knitting gauge and once I've measured the sides i know how many stitches per 10cm.

    How do you pick up stitches in ribbing if you want to lengthen it?

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I've wanted to do that I've actually cut the knitting, and picked up stitches from where I cast on! It's a long process as the stitches don't unravel in the opposite direction it's a case of unpicking one at a time. Happy knitting 🧶

  • @3anaurv2
    @3anaurv2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    "k1 together with a picked up stich from the co edge" i don't know if the needle go first in the co edge or in the stich on the needle. it's for a folded hem, and as i'm a beginner, i'am not sure which side i must bend the work. it's on a circular needle, for the sweater neck.

    • @KnitWithHannah
      @KnitWithHannah  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s very likely that it won’t matter which you put on the needle first. As it’s one stitch in a folded hem it won’t be seen anyway. It’ll be folded towards the inside so the join is hidden. Happy knitting 🧶
