It's funny to me that the biggest knock on Herbig was his size, and he used his biggest weakness and turn it in to a strength, the fact that he is so fast and small gives him the edge against big guys.
Herbig has been working with TJ Watt 1 on 1 all preseason and it shows up in his play, directly. He’s learned a couple new moves from TJ and has already polished them.
The majority of NFL analysts and draft gurus said that Nick’s arms were too short, he was too light and he lacked the physical bulk to be able to play OLB at the NFL level. That is the same things they said about Greg Lloyd and James Harrison. Getting Nick where Omar did turned out to be one of the best bang-for-a-GM’s bucks in the 2023 draft.
At roughly 6:00 to 7:00, Herbig is commanding the attentions of more than one blocker. Yes, it is a serial double-team, but a double-team nonetheless. The new guys are already showing great looks. I am telling you right now, if the Steelers can stay healthy, they WILL win a playoff game and after that victory, EVERYTHING ELSE IS ON THE TABLE! GO STEELERS!
let’s just hope you’re right as we play our first playoff game in 2 years and don’t look away NICK Herbig has an opportunity of a lifetime All the spotlight will be on Him Now tht TJ is out. the stars really have aligned
The Steelers also picked up the JYD, Marcus Golden. He is brute strength but can move. Teammates call him "Junk" as in Junkyard dog. Now look at the ILB's. More Dogs!
2:29 Damn that second play, he just needs Alex highsmith to teach him that spin move and he’s solid, HOT TAKE herbig becomes great cuz of highsmith and watt pouring into him plus he’s a lil brother, he knows how to follow and wants to not disapoint
The answer to wondering how Nick turned out to be as good as he is can be summed up in the T.J. Watt affect. Nick has said several times that he has T.J. to thank for teaching him the nuances of the position. He sought out T.J.’s advice when he was in college, especially given that T.J. also went to Wisconsin. Nick has been in T.J.’s hip pocket since he was drafted.
Bro, you failed to mention 1 thing tho… How many rookies have a bag that deep? He was coming w multiple moves and mulitple counters. Just out there trying stuff against NFL comp. Tbh he kinda plays like Micah parsons
It's pretty impressive that he has as many pass rush moves and counters as he does coming into the league not many rookies come into the league with that many moves and counters other than the guys that get drafted really high
TJ Watt is a "top 3-4" edge rusher? who are the 2-3 edge rushers better than TJ? he is the Best in the league and literally just broke the single season record for sacks (in less gms played). the analysis of Herbig was great and what's scary is, he's only gonna get better.
That tackle has 60 lbs on him - that's about all he can really do there with where he lined up. He maintained edge control which was the number one responsibility.
Everybody needs to realize that yea TJ probably helped a lot but he did not transform him as a player over a few months. That doesn’t happen, Herbig was obviously very talented and overlooked due to his size and let’s be honest his “high motor and sneaky athleticism”
For all y’all saying y’all didn’t see it on tape y’all didn’t watch tape simple he’s been working with tj for awhile now even before the draft that was the big thing when we drafted him pretty sure tj and his brother put the word in give tj watt some mentees witha high motor and watch him teach em the unstoppable ghost move 😂
Ehhh I agree with you thinking he needs more strength. His is undersized after all but his job on that play was keeping contain. He did that so that’s a mistake by you not herbig tho. That said great video.
Totally agree .. Herbig may turn out to be the “other lifelong steeler” .. him & Joey .. .. gotta disagree slightly tho..dude I saw this in Herbig “at Wisconsin” - even his Junior year .. .. dudes gunna be a lighter faster James Farrior .. tnx
Think you’re off on your details of him. Several plays his job is to contain the outside due to the d coordinator believing it’s probably going to be a run play.. give him more playing time on reps in the weight room as long as reps in foot and hand work, he’ll get better..
Until he gets more experience, don't think we'll see a ton of him in early downs, probably more of the obvious pass rushing downs. Imagine this kid coming in on a 3rd & 13 while the opposing O line is gassed. Whew 🚬
@@Cody435 ya but they have Marcus golden too though… herbig is showing big time talent and they just signed highsmith seems the Steelers have room at inside linebacker
@@blucheer8743no and no. Edge in Pittsburgh is Avery high energy position. A 3rd and even 4th edge that can play will see significant snaps, and that’s not even accounting for injuries. As said above, Watt missed several games last season. And no, inside linebacker is an entirely different skill set than edge. The Steelers moved Watt to ILB dozens of times last year and he had almost no splash plays from that position. Herbig is smaller than Watt. Moving him to ILB would put him in the position to be a real soft spot in the Steeler defense.
That’s not how it works bro he is not a DT in a 3-4 or a 4-3 lmao he’s solely on the edge he would move to nickel before he moves to DT😂 neither of which are happening he’s gonna get pass rush opportunities so he’ll be out there mainly on passing downs to give watt n highsmith a break, problem is he’s better from Tjs side than he is highsmiths.. but you should deff keep watching film to understand more n more about football
now picture number 90 on other side. how will they double team either will now free up the 3 headed monster on that line. aint no center and tackles going to handle them 1 v 1.

Arm length for Edge rushers is like hand size for quarterbacks. If Scouts decide that you need certain length arm to play Edge rusher so no one drafts an edge rushers with shorter arms, there can be no successful Edge rushers with shorter arms BECAUSE NO ONE DRAFTS THEM. It is a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Nfl scouts are wayyy to obsessed with height and weight. Guys like herbig with great technique and a great motor often get overlooked.
A they usually are the ones to be all time greats
Scheme fit matters too. And the Steelers scheme is very similar to Wisconsins. They have Watt, Herbig, Benton, and Loundermilk all out of Wisconsin
Forget motor that’s called athleticism sir
Very true. I will say the GMs Omar Kahn and Andy Weitel(?) along with MT, are picking better players for two years now.
It's funny to me that the biggest knock on Herbig was his size, and he used his biggest weakness and turn it in to a strength, the fact that he is so fast and small gives him the edge against big guys.
TJ, Highsmith, and Golden are all mentoring the kid. Also helps he’s a strong quick twitchy athlete that learns fast.
He’s hungry too mentions it all the time & ain’t he part Hawaiian he should b a monster 🤷🏽♂️
Herbig has been working with TJ Watt 1 on 1 all preseason and it shows up in his play, directly. He’s learned a couple new moves from TJ and has already polished them.
Him & TJ Watt have been joined at the hip.Thats why he is developing so fast
Still need talent no matter how much or who you work with

well they said james harrison was too short. Youd probably have to be tripping balls to look at james harrison and say hes lacking bulk

Bro are you forgetting the fact he’s been under TJ Watt since OTA’s or longer. That is pure TJ he’s showing on the field
Next offseason he’ll become a beast
On the 2nd clip the holding was on the Right Tackle, not Dawkins.
I was thinking the same lol I swear the hold was on golden not herbig lol
That holding call was called on the RT tackle against Mark Golden
The Steelers also picked up the JYD, Marcus Golden. He is brute strength but can move. Teammates call him "Junk" as in Junkyard dog. Now look at the ILB's. More Dogs!
Golden does look strong AF, it’s nice to have an edge who can really help against the run like he can (and pass rush of course)

Them Wisconsin boys just built different. Watt, Benton, Herbig, etc
I have already been calling him Baby TJ.. He been beasting this preseason..
Thanks for doing this video!!
Herbig is a rookie he doesn't have his nfl body yet give him a year in the Steelers weight program and he will only get better.
Yea this guy is a mini tj never thought I’d ever say it
TJ Watt is a "top 3-4" edge rusher? who are the 2-3 edge rushers better than TJ?

Kid is a stud.
TJ’s the best edge in the league btw, not top 3-4
That's Baby TJ right there💪

Hes got contain on the run play u showed. Hes not supposed to disengage until runner commits
The dude was a beast at Wisconsin
The last clip Tj definitely taught him that 😂🔥
We finally got the middle plugged up..
It's early yet. Be he's going to reak havoc!

You now Tj is the best edge rusher in the league
I'm sure TJ helped him with that and with learning other moves
O'cyrus Torrence
was absolutely strapping LEAL
Full circle moment here huh
This video is a prediction for a repeat this weekend. Slide into TJ's spot and get a couple sacks and some hurries. Lets go Steelers!

TJ Watt has been helping him
Watt has been working with Nick
Hes a rookie and already getting double teamed. AREA 51 is the real deal
FR! wait until he gets his nfl body
They called that first holding on the other tackle because Golden would have sacked or stripped Allen had he not held
Thank you for confirming!! I wasn't 100% sure, it doesn't list for me, who held
@@The_Football_Scout yea no doubt I just remember it from watching it live but herbig was held as well. None the less he has been a beast
For all the talk of Herbig being undersized coming out of college, he sure doesn't look like he's giving up 50 lbs to these offensive tackles.
Golden was also being held on the second play and would have sacked Allen
The Steelers dont miss at LB if your drafted by the Pittsburgh you can play

wisconsin? i recognize the name
just as i thought. wisconsin LBs are different
Shouldn’t the Steelers be looking to move him inside to play him with watt and highsmith??

He didn’t dominate he played well
Getting a sack, a forced fumble, and several QB pressures in 10 or 11 snaps is pretty dominant
