What’ll really blow your mind is watching him on a movie he did with George Strait called Pure Country. Completely opposite character from Coach Taylor. It’s really weird.
I watched this show as a senior in high school it ended they won it all and like 4 weeks later my school Pocatello High went through and won the Idaho state championship 07'. We had pretty much our whole school 3000 kids on the field at Boise State University cheering losing our minds it was a wild weekend that's all I'll say, I finished out and some of the best times of my life because of this show it taught me sooo much how to navigate.
I'm English and i don't dislike american football but i also don't know a lot about it but the sport is only part of the show, it's more about the families connected with it, the creators / writers should be proud of coach Taylor, he is one of the greatest characters ever written, was five seasons enough, maybe not plus it had Connie Britton in it.....nuff said-legend and a goddess
@canozcan4159 as someone who grew up being weird about inviting people over, this hit me real close to home. Also "even bought a book on meditation" to help me sleep 😆
I love when grandma Saracen tells Matt to move his feet. It’s actually a lesson for all of us. Move your feet. Keep going no matter what happens. Keep working and you will see the results.
“You should feel proud” that whole part of the dialogue is so subtle yet fucking beautiful man. He’s telling him that yea maybe he doesn’t have a nice big house, or a bunch of family, or things that would impress people. But what he possesses impresses people. His integrity, his humbleness, his care for his grandma. It’s a beautiful little message in this part of the speech I love.
Just Watching Matt's Grandma perk up when she hears the Coach is there says so much about the town and the Football culture. She (Like Matt) never expected to ever see Coach Taylor, but when he comes, she immediately gets up and starts making a snack for him. She's probably spent years hearing all the other parents gush about their kids getting special attention from the coach, and now suddenly it's her turn. Matt's Grandma is one of the best side characters in the show.
Coach Taylor is the kind of person I aspire to be. Amazing role model. And I'm a 36 year old woman in Australia, not in Texas or a male! That's how universal his impact is.
I love that throughout this 1st season Taylor always asked "how's grandma doing"? he asked him like 4-5 times when he didn't have to that's how you know he truly cared about our favorite Matty!!!
This is one my favorite scenes of the whole series, maybe my favorite scene... it was right here that pushed that needle for me and made me love this show. Im not a big football fan, but this may me my favorite tv show. It inspires me and I... i just love this show so much
Peter Berg, like Aaron Sorkin is a genius. Years later, and in the short form of clips on TH-cam, you can see how he made television something worth watching. It's not often that the simple in life can be observed, and the ordinary made extraordinary. But Berg does it here.
coach taylor's looked so endeared when matt told his grandma he loves her and when his grandma was openly proud and praising him. he could see he had a good support system full of love and support despite not having parents or money.
Didn't the original score of this great scene have Explosions In The Sky in the background? Been dying to find a version of the scene with that track (can't even remember what it was) This is good but THAT? That other one was perfect
What made Eric Taylor a great coach and by extension, a great man, is that he never assumed to know more or pretend to know exactly what his players were going through. He acknowledged their struggles and was there for them. He understood when to be empathetic and when to inspire, and he also knew when they needed their asses kicked.
I just graduated high school. I didn’t play football I played Volleyball. This show inspires to be a coach, because I love the sport but I play terrible by my own teammates.
Great show. I just finished season 5. The ending was really good. My only lingering question is what happened to JD, his father and the coach that replaced Taylor? All are gone in the rematch between the Lions and Panthers. JD would only have been a Junior so I assume he and his annoying father left Dillon.
james lachs in season 5 when Coach Taylor was offered to coach West Dillon it was said JD and his dad along with the QB coach who replaced him moved back to Dallas after they upsetted the panthers in the last game
It goes back to the very beginning - JD is Jason Street reborn. Doted on and protected by his parents as QB-1 from Pee Wee football days. JD loses QB-1 to a more athletic Vince Howard, so the McCoys move to Arnett Meade so JD can take over VooDoo's legacy. The Stud of Suds can afford to live wherever they want and live his life vicariously through his son.
I just graduated high school. I didn’t play football I played Volleyball. This show inspires to be a coach, because I love the sport but I play terrible by my own teammates.
I didn't realise how much story telling was done with the shot from the perspective of Coach Taylor entering the room: It's a simple but clean home with Matt's sketches and the photo of his absent father. It really gives the background of Matt and sets up his arc for the whole series.
Reminds me of the time I try out for stupid soccer try out! This random ass coach is like I can’t hear you I had to yell top of my lungs! And even on the field! My dad took me off! 😂😂 so I got on a better team!
FOURTY FOUR! FOURTY FOUR CROSSFIRE RED RED RED TWENTY TWO! TWENTY TWO ROCKET HIT HIT HIT LET IT OUT SON WHAT’S YOUR NAME? MUH MUH MUH MATT. SARACEN! WHO DO YOU PLAY FOR? DILLON PANTHERS WHAT DO YOU PLAY? QB1!!!! HOW DO YOU PLAY IT? PERFECTLY
No matter what else I see coach Taylor in, he's still coach Taylor.
Bro I feel this on a spiritual level
Try watching him on Bloodline lol
What’ll really blow your mind is watching him on a movie he did with George Strait called Pure Country. Completely opposite character from Coach Taylor. It’s really weird.
he was in game night, right? with jason bateman?
Did y’all see the time Coach Taylor helped Godzilla?
This show isn't about football...football is the backdrop to a show about LIFE
Exactly
Well said
Ya
amen
I watched this show as a senior in high school it ended they won it all and like 4 weeks later my school Pocatello High went through and won the Idaho state championship 07'. My wife still refuses to watch this show. Says she has no interest in "a show about football.' It's not about football.
Your wife is kindof pissing me off
Tell her the football aspect of it is terrible. It’s not at all about football.
Neil S I’m exactly the same. Back when I watched it I had no idea about American Football but this is honestly my favourite show.
Her loss, sadly.
Mrs Saracen immediately busting out the grocery store pastry is every grandma ever
The zoom in on coach making sure he eats every bite just sells this scene.
Coach Taylor eating the cake while he was driving was such a great little touch.
Also: “move your feet, move your feet” 😂
Sure was. Nice little moment. That's such a huge part of why this show is perfect... all about the little moments.
Still get goosebumps when coach Taylor says "you should feel proud" to Matt.
Exactly.
Me toooo
I have fight back tears
@canozcan4159 as someone who grew up being weird about inviting people over, this hit me real close to home. Also "even bought a book on meditation" to help me sleep 😆
You got the wire, breaking bad, sopranos, but this show cuts me to the core. It might be my favourite thing ever made.
I still get chills watching this scene, when he says “I want it coach, I want it!!”
Then take it!
I love when grandma Saracen tells Matt to move his feet. It’s actually a lesson for all of us. Move your feet. Keep going no matter what happens. Keep working and you will see the results.
This show ruined high school football tv shows for me. It was that good
I LOVE this show. I can smell the Texas hill country air watching this. Coach, Matt, and Vince .......one of the best shows ever made
I laughed when they said there in West Texas, and see the trees, the green grass, creeks, and the ponds.
And Tim
Great series. Lots of great characters and story lines in it. Zach Gillford (Saracen) did an amazing job acting in this series.
that is so true easily a show that found the perfect way to use his timid personality but showed him have great moments
“You should feel proud” that whole part of the dialogue is so subtle yet fucking beautiful man. I’m 65 years old & I can watch this show over & over again. 🏈🏈🏈
Coach Taylor always kept mis manners with talking to Grandma
Just Watching Matt's Grandma perk up when she hears the Coach is there says so much about the town and the Football culture. Matt's Grandma is one of the best side characters in the show.
She was great in longmire after this.
Yes! She is phenomenal in Longmire.
This was one of the most powerful moments of the show
Full heart.
Clear eyes.
Can't lose.
Wrong order
One of the best scenes related to football in this series. Coach Taylor showed compassion and conveyed his message perfectly.
Peter Berg is a genius. He knew exactly what he was doing with the movie and this show. The characters are so believable
His cousin Buzz HG Bissinger wrote the book that started it all
I recently watched Quiet Victory, Peter Berg was in it and Kyle Chandler's debuted film
bruh, first tv show to make me cry
Multiple times
"HOW MUCH DO YOU WANT IT!" - favorite scene of one of the best shows ever.
Helluva scene. Some very good writing there!
"Move your feet, move your feet" lol Beautiful, classic scene - makes you want to run through a wall...
Coach Taylor is the kind of person I aspire to be. Amazing role model. And I'm a 36 year old woman in Australia, not in Texas or a male! That's how universal his impact is.
Can you make a compilation of just Grandma and Coach. The banter between them is fantastic.
I love that throughout this 1st season Taylor always asked "how's grandma doing"? he asked him like 4-5 times when he didn't have to that's how you know he truly cared about our favorite Matty!!!
What a life lesson in this little clip! I love that show!!!
THE GOOSEBUMPS I AM GETTING
Yo I’m about to cry gosh I miss this show
Texas Forever
This is one my favorite scenes of the whole series, maybe my favorite scene... it was right here that pushed that needle for me and made me love this show.

The world could use more guys like this who actually care about his players.
I like all American but LOVE Friday night lights
coach taylor's looked so endeared when matt told his grandma he loves her and when his grandma was openly proud and praising him. he could see he had a good support system full of love and support despite not having parents or money.
That scene always gives me chills! Incredible leadership strategy to instill confidence and show he has faith in his QB1!
That last 22 Rocket gets me buzzin every time! 🔥🚀💯🙏
I love how "proud as a peacock" Matt's grandmother looked as they're walking out the door.
“Im a peacock, you gotta let me fly!”
God bless Friday night lights
4:04 such a nice detail to show the guy in charge of the lights patiently waiting. Gives some extra context to the scene.
Didn't the original score of this great scene have Explosions In The Sky in the background?
Been dying to find a version of the scene with that track (can't even remember what it was)
This is good but THAT?
That other one was perfect
Arguably the best scene of the show
This Show is Better than All American and that’s facts
Obvv
Always Coach Taylor....Bring this man back! Texas forever!
This show really captured the essence of real life after being high school football gods
Best show ever
Coach Taylor should’ve taken his hat off when entering Grandma’s house #respect
not in Texas....no man willingly gives up his hat.
@@calvinnay814 Cap
A coach who lifted his players and made them into good men.
Miss the Explosions in the Sky first run soundtrack

I just graduated high school. I didn’t play football I played Volleyball. This show inspires to be a coach, because I love the sport but I play terrible by my own teammates.
I fucking love living in Texas.

This scene hit deep.
Had to quit my junior year in high school, had three knee dislocations. Wish I could have kept going.
This was the best show and I learned about football. I thought I might not like it too. I want to watch football now lol
Very Motivational
Matt should feel proud but goodness gracious he’s a teenager that was so much for him to carry!
They don't make shows like this anymore 😩
Awesome show !
I love this show I bought all the seasons
What do you play!?
QB 1!
And how do you play it!?
Perfectly!
We’ll see about that.
Awesome show
“Move your feet”
Solid advice from grandma
Great show. I just finished season 5. The ending was really good. My only lingering question is what happened to JD, his father and the coach that replaced Taylor? All are gone in the rematch between the Lions and Panthers. JD would only have been a Junior so I assume he and his annoying father left Dillon.
yep jds parents got divorced and they also kinda ruined their name/reputation in dillon so its just assumed they leave
@@gatzuuu I remember that but never put it together. Good catch!

can you believe that coach is now in the FBI, he was the guy that took down oakmont straten.
Goodness Sakers Coach Taylor is that real good manners to just force your way into someone else's home after they said "Let's stay outside".
@Jaydon Beatz True.
I want this relationship with my granddaughter.
Be there for her and she'll love you
Mexican Eagle I am, she does.
Great show
Dammit I miss this show
They should put coach Taylor in the HOF
The last great tv drama networks produced. Almost by accident. Clear Eyes Full Hearts...
@FridayNightLights TH-cam Channel please add more Matt Saracen content from seasons 2-4. Thank you :)
This show was fucking awesome. Miles ahead of the movie.
Reminds me of the time I try out for stupid soccer try out! This random ass coach is like I can’t hear you I had to yell top of my lungs! And even on the field! My dad took me off! 😂😂 so I got on a better team!
