    Hi I have same bike and am Type 1 since 1979....I feel your pain as I also struggle at times, it’s always on your mind monitoring what you have eaten what you are doing, I use the Dexcom monitor system and it’s transformed my monitoring and control as shows direction and rate of change. I keep the phone on bars with blood sugar display on when riding. No more hypos, like youI keep sugars elevated when riding ( uk regs above 7) and average about 9 as safety buffer. Not sure where you based, I’m in Hertfordshire if your nearby.
    Ohh and I got a solution for mirrors, I fitted extension base which works really well.
    Great bikes I love mine, although at present I have bike stripped down trying to located a very annoying coolant leak.
    Ride safe fella Rich

      I'm based just outside of London mate. Diabetes is something that we seem to deal with in our own ways because it's so hard for anyone to teach you how it works for you because only you know how it truly works for you. Once I got my omnipod it got so much better but I still have days where it is out of control, also tried the freestyle libre but found it useless as the readings were always off and they always fell off me. I have no experience with the Dexcom, is that a pay monthly one?

    Im just seeing this video. Im type 2. everyday is a struggle when your used to eating what you want. When your young you dont take it serious. But as you get older and the problems start, it tends to make you rethink what you put in your body. Eat healthy, And get plenty of exercise everyday. Thats the best advise I can give you. Its helped me. Eventhough I have a ways to go before I can get down to the ideal body weight. If your not feeling we,, dont ride. Last thing you want is to go into a diabetic coma while your riding. Peace and Love

    The on-off issue is either wires short circuiting in the ignition switch or something related to your keyless system and/or immobilizer. There were some early issues with the ignition switch and the way they packed wires in there.

    Thanks for the video. Very informative.
    I am looking forward to my first 600 km bike tour tomorrow to the Lesotho mountains in South Africa on my new 1290 SAR. I have to keep the km's low to not exceed the bike's first service of 1000 km's. I am a type -1 diabetic for the last 26 years and from my experience i have learn that it is of utmost importance to make sure that your blood sugar is not too low when driving a vehicle and I think (based on my bike experience that is only about 6 months long) it is even more important to ensure that you are prepared for the ride in terms of the condition of your blood sugar levels. Experience has taught me that low blood sugar is much more dangerous than high blood sugar when driving a vehicle because your brain requires sugar to operate normally, (if it does not have sugar it tends to shut down, where you unexpectedly loose concentration quickly and the ability to drive safely) while high blood sugar does not have a big effect on brain function in terms of concentration , it damages the organs in your body after long periods of high blood sugar. So from my experience, although high blood sugar is bad for your organs at the long run it does not affect your brain function (which is obviously important when you are driving a bike or any other vehicle) as seriously as low blood sugar. That is my experience, and it might differ from person to person. So I have learned that I always test my blood sugar before I drive and I always have glucose or something to eat close by to increase my blood sugar when required, and always have my blood testing machine nearby, and most important to always check oneself for a first feeling of low blood sugar and to never ignore it, because blood sugar gradually goes down and will quickly put you in a position where you don't want to be and don't expect. So I personally would rather drive a bike with a blood sugar higher than normal than lower than normal. But this might be different for you. But in any case if you take your blood sugar seriously and act on it (especially when low) then you will be OK and enjoy your bike fully. Hope my experience are useful to you. Enjoy this amazing bike.

      @deadbugdavey1744  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I 100 percent agree with you. I've been type 1 for 15 ish years now and low sugars definitely effect your concentration and make you feel tired. Here in the UK it is the law to check your bloods before you set out on the bike, even if it's only a 5 mile ride you have to check. If you do not and you have an accident and they realise you are diabetic and you have not checked your bloods and they are low after the accident you are in serious trouble. I had an accident about a year ago, I checked my bloods before I left and after the accident so there was no doubt I was not low. The police checked my meter to make sure I was not low.
      Highs make my eyes funny and I feel it all over my whole body for days but on a ride I'd prefer a little high than anything under 5. In fact in the UK, bloods under 5 mean you can not drive!
      Are you on injections or on a pump? It's really nice to hear from a fellow diabetic biker and it really means alot to me that you took the time to share your experiences

      Ha,ha I don't think the traffic police would even know what type-1 diabetes means here in the southern point of Africa.
      I am not aware of any punishable traffic rules specified for type-1 diabetes here, or maybe I am just uninformed.
      I agree 100% with your driving regulations in the UK in regards to diabetes, because I think many lives are saved on the road.
      I am on injections. I use a short term insulin before every meal and then I use a long term insulin at night. My doctor say that I must first have a constant HbA1c of at least 7 before he will let me use an insulin pump. His logic does not make sense and I think it has more to do with the cost of the machine.
      My HbA1c is about 8.6 and I have not experienced any major physical problems yet. The time that I had it at about 7 (long time ago) was when I waked up in the emergency rooms about once every two months with nurses injecting glucose in me to save me.
      A HbA1c target of 7 is too low for me , especially if I want to enjoy my new fond love called bike riding.
      If my blood sugar is very high 23+ my legs feels heavy and my body starts feeling irritated and in this case I would stop (if alone) injecting myself or my wife would give me a short term insulin injection while driving. It will then only take a few minutes before I am 100% again.
      Strange that you say that you feel high blood sugar for days? Why would that be?
      But in any case it is really nice talking to you. May you have happy, safe and good sugar level driving ahead.

      @@fransdav5573 when my sugars are high and I get them back to normal my body seems to suffer. I ache all over, very irritable (more than normal) and I have a bad headache all day for about 3 days. Its almost like my body takes time to recover from this high.
      I used to inject novarapid as my short term insulin and glargine as my slow 24 hour insulin. I found control almost impossible at times and found myself with serious heath issues that nearly killed me due to the high blood sugars, septicaemia being one of them.
      Now with the pump it stays on me for up to 3 days and slowly drips insulin into me 24/7 and I program it to inject insulin for any food I eat. I also have the freestyle libre which reads my sugars from my phone with no blood needed, this is OK but it's not that amazing in my experience as its not that accurate.
      I spent 2 years in training for my pump and because my sugars were so awkward to control, if I had hba1c of 7 they would not of let me have a pump, I got mine because I was struggling and I had been for over 10 years. I needed the pump and to be honest it has changed my life! I hated the idea of it being attached to me 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year but now I'd never go back to injections!
      My injection sites are healing now, the scar tissue is softening up too. This is because instead of over 10 injections a day, I'm having 1 injection site over 3 days!
      Good luck on your trip mate, ride safe and enjoy it!

I'm not a fan of the new looks that much, where the light and screen meet just doesn't do it for me. BUT, the led lights are amazing on my super adventure so I'd guess the gt lights are the same. Adjust the mirrors so you just see your soulders to get the best rear view. You need to rotate the left hand controls and mirror forward to match the other side.
    Adjust bars to desired reach. Then set hand controls to the angle you like. Take riding standing up into account for off road. Then you can set the right mirror in line with the left mirror if you want.
    The closer the mirror is to you the wider the angle you can see in it.
    The mirrors are on ball swivels so you just need to point it outward until you barely see your shoulder.

    • @deadbugdavey1744
      @deadbugdavey1744  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have tried but as you mentioned the left mirror is definitely at a different angle. I can not roll the left lever forward either as the hydrolic cables and everything are already coming into contact with parts so it stops me moving it. I have rotated the whole bars forward but I just don't like the riding position then. So, I think I will just enjoy riding the bike and not worry about the mirrors now, unless I can get some sort of mirror arm extensions
