Folks of a certain age like me that grew up riding in and driving these sedans appreciate how comfortable and reliable they were. Visibility was great. The seats in these Panthers sat up nice and high. The 302 was smooth as silk and ran forever. I loved these. Thank you for keeping one on the road.
I have great respect for your purveyorship of that car. It really is truly admirable to see someone who appreciates these rare survivors and keeps them running despite the difficulties sourcing parts and doing the work. 97% of people just turn their nose up and say "ew its an old car, Im not paying that to fix it, its barely worth 1,500!"
We need to get more of these classics. Make a project that will be against destroying those classics. No car that was made before 2005 should be destroyed, if it’s still drivable.
amazing. I am from Saudi Arabia. I have a black 1989 Mercury Grand Marquis GS. I have completely renovated it. It is one of the best cars. I have a 1984 Chevy Caprice with a 350 engine.
Ford/Lincoln/Mercury on the Panther platform and the Chrysler M-body platform of the same era were the best in the business for unmatched comfort and bullet-proof reliability. Thanks for sharing.
I really enjoy seeing these cars from the '80s. Back then my Dad had a 1987 Grand Marquis LS that was a really nice cruiser. It was white on white with a gray pinstripe and a gray velour interior. That was a really great car and he had zero problems with it.
I was given my grandfather's '89 LS in 1996. It was my daily driver until 2021. Always garaged. Black over silver/gray leather. Turbine cast aluminum wheels. It was a fantastic and reliable car.
I had a black 87 grand marquis o loved that car it was plush red interior beautiful paint job and wheels . It drove so smooth I sold it for 5,500 dollars and bought a Cadillac . I still miss that car 😊I was crazy to sell it
My grandfather had a burgundy one just like this one when I was a kid that he bought new and I remember it having the coldest A/C that I'd ever felt in a car with literally frost forming on the dash vents.
Congratulations. You've been doing a terrific job keeping this beauty on the road. I'm not from the US, but have always been a fan of old-school American road boats. DIY skills help a lot.
Nice job with the top, I’d be afraid to take that on. My grandparents had one of these when I was a kid - an 87, maroon on maroon on maroon lol. Very 80s!
My first car was an '81 Grand Marquis that I bought from my grandpa. He bought an '86 to replace it. I really liked the fuel injection in his '86. It had a lot more pep than my '81
I once had a Crown Victoria LX of the same year. Both are very similar, but the Grand Marquis is slightly more luxurious. Glad to see you completely fixed up a wrecked one. Respect. Long live the Panther platform!
Excellent video. Excellent information and content. I can appreciate the time and effort you put into restoring the Grand Marquis. It is indeed "grand" again.
My dad drove for a “black-car” company and he had a black on red 1987, then he bought a blue on white 1989 and finally a 1993, green on grey which eventually became my first car. So many memories
Nice car! If the car was mine, I would put white wall tires on, that would change the look of it. I love those old Mer's. I have I 1976 mercury cougar, I bought it brand new on april 29, 1976. The car is still in nice condition, with 86,000 miles on. I live in central Minnesota, 110 miles from Fargo. Over the years the cougar was in Fargo several times, and in towns like, Williston, Minot etc.
This when cars looked like cars not bubble vans ..I had a 1990 5.0 it ran wonderful.same color only had to ever change battery cable and 6 hrs to change water pump . Miss that car
My grandma used to have one of the last model years of this Mercury in wagon form woodgrain and all. A 90' or 91' but she traded it in sometime in the 2010s. I wish she could have given it to me. But the car I'm currently looking for is a first model year Taurus LX wagon in red.
I gulped whenever I see these after losing a race in 2000 to my cousin driving his grandma/ my great aunties black Marquis 5.0. I was in my dad's E30 and yea I learned there's no replacement for displacement for sure. My first cars were 4.5 4.9 DeVilles after that!!!
Beautiful cars.....a miss what these computer-on-wheels do not have now. You knew what car it was, back in the days, miles before it came to you. Beauty and it to be the beast......but, they had better prestige, and uniqness.
Oh yeah, those LTDs were everywhere in the 80s. Even more common--it seemed to me, though I don't know this for sure--were the LTDs of the 70s. Seemed like every 3rd car was one, and you saw a lot of them pretty deep into the 90s.
I have a red marquis year 1990. I wish I lived closer to you as you could probably help me. Right now I have tried to replace internal damaged upholstry but the seat belt anchor bolt will not come out and the head has been destroyed. I was in the process of replacing the vinyl top but had no help so right now it only has cheap white paint over primer. Also the clear is flaking and due to it being lacquer paint it seems it takes a special clear coat. The engine runs great although after a long drive, oil pressure can go down and the car can stall out. I did not know there is an economical code reader, trying to get the codes out with only one person is tough. I do not know why more of these cars are not preserved as they are an integral part of our culture. So sad to see them in the junkyard.
I had a 88 Merc same color but blue interior and vinyl roof. Best car i ever owned and would love to have another one day same body style but to find a good looking one in really good condition with decent mileage they have gotten really expensive I paid only five grand when I got mine and that was back in 1996 lol they've gotten more expensive than that
Pretty cool video: However (and this may depend on several factors, including the severity of the knock/s) I beg to differ on the rod knock issue sir. I replaced both the connecting rod bearings and the main bearings in my 99 Cavalier, without rebuilding the entire engine, (again depending on various circumstances and variables refering to the individual situation) or removing it from the vehicle) by dropping the oil pan, swapping out the bearings, retorquing the cap bolts, installing a new oil pan gasket and buttoning it up; now the engine runs and sounds like new...
My parents had a beautiful gray 1991 Grand Marquis. Unfortunately, my dad was driving it on the interstate in the winter and he hit some black ice. The car fishtailed and ended up in a ditch before hitting a light pole. That was the end of the Grand Marquis.
Beautiful car, admire what you have done with it. Would you consider putting a window tint on it? I think the white paint would set it off, and keep the interior cooler.
Love this video! I wish I was so mechanically inclined! So the vinyl fabric was used on the cloth seats? Can that be used on vinyl seats? Keep up the uploads!
This one was a sleeper I usto detail for a limo company and this was A business or funeral car and I pulled it out some times and detailed it and this Car smoked the tires Off almost all the time lol
Now that is one nice ass whip my friend, how many miles did she have when you got her?? I definitely want to get one, I got my sights on a '90 LTD Crown V
I share your progress and struggles in owning and fixing up a project car. I have a Nissan Sentra same year as your grand Marquis. I have a few videos I made about it on my channel if you wanna check it out.
I had one of these Mercury Grand Marquis and it was the worst car I ever owned. Right after the warranty expired I saw antifreeze on the passenger side floor mat. To my HORROR the car required a heater core, which happened to be the most expensive in the industry back then - $875, yes and OUCH! It was one thing after another with that hunk of junk!
Folks of a certain age like me that grew up riding in and driving these sedans appreciate how comfortable and reliable they were. Visibility was great. The seats in these Panthers sat up nice and high. The 302 was smooth as silk and ran forever. I loved these. Thank you for keeping one on the road.

Yet, those same people are down for a $700/mo car payment.
We need to get more of these classics. Make a project that will be against destroying those classics. No car that was made before 2005 should be destroyed, if it’s still drivable.

@@herbienbrian2 Best Grand Marquis in terms of comfort

"It was in good shape, but needed work." Truly an oxymoron. LOL.
I really enjoy seeing these cars from the '80s. Back then my Dad had a 1987 Grand Marquis LS that was a really nice cruiser. It was white on white with a gray pinstripe and a gray velour interior. That was a really great car and he had zero problems with it.

Awesome restoration! Great to see this car is still on the road.

Beautiful Merc... I have a 90 LTD Crown Vic with 28k original miles and absolutely love the car..
Great video! Loved seeing the project unfold
I drove a Black 1989 Crown Victoria. The same one on your Ford Brochure.
My grandfather had a burgundy one just like this one when I was a kid that he bought new and I remember it having the coldest A/C that I'd ever felt in a car with literally frost forming on the dash vents.
Drove an 86 back in 2003...man that car was smooth..thanks again
A real car
Not today's plastic fantastic car's or bullshit car's
The entire interior is plastic
I agree wholeheartedly, but easy on the apostrophe use on “cars” there, buddy..
@@porcupinepunch6893out of hard plastic. Strong plastic and not the cheap we get today

One of the few American cars I genuinely want to own. I’m thinking about picking one up in the summer
Congratulations. You've been doing a terrific job keeping this beauty on the road. I'm not from the US, but have always been a fan of old-school American road boats. DIY skills help a lot.
I had a ‘90. Different dash. Loved that car.

You did an absolute great job this old Merc. I think all it needs now is a set of white walls.
Beautiful solid car! Just needs whitewall tires to set it off! Wow, you have done a wonderful job with it! Ya know, this car will last you forever!

I inherited my Granddad's after he passed, same one in the video but blue on blue, was a great travel car. Thanks for the memory's.
Tanks for the mammories
oh hell yes we need more young men rolling around in cars like this with pride.

Wow that's amazing work it is very VERY BEAUTIFUL
It looked nice when you got it. But after you were done with it looks Amazing and Runs Great. Very Great JOB

It’s beautiful. Great job. But please give the old girl the proper whitewalls. It’s absolutely what would have been on her back in the day.
Slick ride, they're fantastic cars. Hard to beat anything on the Panther platform. These are a lot harder to find than Vics of the same era.
I just got one today smooth ride
Beautiful Mercury ! I had a 2001 Grand Marquis LS with leather interior. I would love to get my hands on a Box Panther from 79 to 91 .
Cool car and the vinyl top looks fantastic!
Love the 80‘s boxy cars.
GMC
Cadillac
Chevrolet
Ford
Lincoln
Mercury
Buick
Oldsmobile
AMC
Volvo
You name it!!!
Beautiful vehicles. I knew a drummer in the early '00s who had one of these because he could fit a full drum set in it and he hated SUV's.
I had a 87 many miles then had 2001 great cars
My in-laws used to own an '87 Grand Marquis, which they later gave to us. That car used to float down the highway. Beautiful Car! Enjoy!
My buddy had one in the 90s. Comfortable ride.
A legendary Panther.

I had a 1990 model around 2004. Nice car if a bit wallowing in the suspension. Made it hard to handle on city streets.
I had the 89 Crown Victoria in high school. Wish I still had it

White wall tires

Lol there good. Maybe some here n there. Better then most
Needs white wall tires to look better. Black wall tires and wire wheels are ugly.
Not bad car, but the 1989 model is the 1979 model...
Introduce in late 78 for the model year 1979...
@grantzirtzman6355 Oh yes, and the 1979 model was beautiful
