Fish and chips from a chip shop at a seaside resort are usually the best you can find. The east coast seems to be where so many good chip shops are, anywhere from Yarmouth in Norfolk, through Skegness and Cleethorpes in Lincolnshire, up to Whitby in Yorkshire. Southerners tend to go for cod, northerners tend to go for haddock. Either will taste great but my preference is for haddock. Haddock have a more discerning diet than cod.

Whitby and Scarborough are the best fish and chips, in London, stay clear, not authentic and very very expensive.

as an englishman i cringe the fact they put the meal in a box its a big no no for me must be in paper old skool style, best places to get this is usually on coastal seaside resorts in the uk....and that is where you will find the best batter on the fish, and chips that have flavour, oh and plenty of salt and vinegar is a must, personally i think cod is the best option and its usually top of the fish menu

I know that they are London prices, T, but good god, £14.50 just for a large cod! £1 for a pickled onion or egg !!! Only £6 here up North for a large cod where I live, and you can get an actual jar of pickled onions for less than a quid, not just 1, too! Poppies may be a chain down there, and supposedly might be good? But you really just can't beat getting your fish etc from an actual chippy (chip shop) that's not a sit down restaurant - just a walk-in and walk-out older type of place. And most coastal chippies usually have the best you can get, too . . . unless you are able to do them yourself.

In the south of England it is usually cod if you ask for fish and chips. The north of England is usually haddock. Tartare sauce or chips hop curry sauce is usually what we eat with it in the south. Gravy is normally a northern thing. The best fish and chips is always from the coast as the fish is fresher.

Hi, great fun vlog usually you get a choice of cod or haddock, not much in it, cod is a bottom feeder, haddock tastes slightly sweeter. I prefer haddock. £13.10 seemed pricey was there a skin on your fish.. I have been eating f&cs for over 50yrs now, I always order haddock and chips with skin off ie no skin, either with gravey, mushy peas or Irish curry sauce, I usually lean over & putt on my own salt&vinager. I prefer my fish not overly fried in beef dripping brings out the flavour.

  • @JacknVictor
    @JacknVictor 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

Anywhere north of Watford you will get better fish and chips, especially the coastal towns. Also, pricier doesn't always equate to better. I've had poppies before, was decent enough, but because they get a lot of media attention they can charge more just because of that. They are decent but I've had way better. The best chippy I've ever been to is one not far from me that still uses the old coal fire fryers, and it's all cooked in beef dripping and it's honestly out of this world. Any chip shop that cooks in beef dripping has got a head start. I use beef dripping in my home deep fryer and the chips come out exactly like they are from a good chip shop. Cod or haddock is the way to go but if a chip shop offers a cheaper option like Pollock, rock, plaice, safe etc then give it a try. Especially if it's half the price of cod. Try other sundries like fishcakes, jumbo battered sausage, spam fritters etc. try the curry sauces etc too. Definately one tip is to try the mushy peas. If a chip shop uses tinned mushy peas and doesn't make them from scratch, then it's a chip shop to avoid. If they skimp on one of the easiest cheapest to make menu items and used canned instead, then they aren't going to put the care and effort in to the rest of their food items. Definately get out of London for good fish and chips. Kent, Cornwall, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Northern Ireland and anywhere past Watford and going up through Birmingham you will get great fish and chips, and anywhere in the north of England. And any coastal town. Blackpool Bridlington Whitby, Skegness and Mablethorpe always deliver on value and quality when I've been.

Hi , Only just seen this vid and its 2 years old !!! By now I am sure you know that you made the right decision for the fish , Cod is the traditional fish for fish and chips . Every chippy I have ever been to seems to skimp on the salt and vinegar so I always ask for extra. Tartare sauce goes well with the fish and some Europeans put mayo on the chips , which I think cam from Holland but its not mayo as we know it and they call it frittesauce ?sp . There are some places that just do fish and chips but they are now few and far between .
Only other point is that in the South of England you get the fish with skin on one side , in the North the fish is skinless.
BTW your eyes are amaxing , are they "real" ? . great vid really enjoyed it.

The two main fish are cod and haddock, normally to differentiate the two is to cook the haddock with the skin still on. Normally again, you would eat the flesh and leave the skin. There is also cod roe which is the cod fish egg sack.

The skin has a lot of the 'goodness' and is a great source of nutrients that support optimal human health, such as protein, omega-3 fatty acids, and vitamin E. So consider eating the fish skin as it contributes to muscle growth, improved heart health and healthy skin... Just saying! 👍🙂 🇬🇧

Usually Haddock or Cod are the 2 most common fish to get, mushy peas was the side, it was (back in the 1970's) a Friday "tea" meal and all the chippy's were packed with queue's around the corner, the addition of curry sauce etc is more recent but it use to be mainly, fish, pies, puddings, tripe, gravy, peas and chips on the menu with some local variations to what was served, oh and scraps, the crispy bits 😁

Now I've never had fish and chips in London but geographically alone you'll get the best fish and chips in the uk if your in a costal city

I like Haddock. Mushy peas are a must, although good luck down south lol. Best fish and chips you can get are at the seaside.

Malt vinegar is not the same as in the chip shops. They use non-brewed condiment, which is much better.

You need to have mushy peas too! Haddock and Cod are the traditional fish species common with this meal. However, sadly, both have fell victim to overfishing thus are about to become less available.

If you’re still around Camden try Hook fish restaurant along Parkway - authentically different! - Poppies is more a tourist spot, just like most of Camden market. Locals avoid it.

Cod is very nice, but Haddock is better, also, for some reason, fish and chip shops down south always leave skin on the fish, but if you go to the North of the UK we remove all the skin so it tastes much better recommend, Yorkshire
