How I Learned I had Stage 4 Colorectal Cancer - Zykeisha | The Patient Story

  • Zykeisha found out her hemoglobin levels were dangerously low. She underwent a blood transfusion, but the relief was short-lived. Despite alarming signs like excruciating back pain, changes in stool, and even blood in her stool, doctors dismissed Zykeisha’s concerns time and time again. It took a full year of relentless doctor visits to uncover what was really going on.
The turning point came when unbearable pain below her breast led to an emergency room visit, where an ultrasound revealed a mass on her liver. Initially misdiagnosed with gallstones, a colonoscopy revealed Stage 4 colorectal cancer that had metastasized to the liver.
In this cancer vlog, Zykeisha describes the painful process of her diagnosis where she underwent multiple rounds of chemotherapy and major surgeries. Zykeisha also shows the power of self advocacy and how she never gave up on herself.

I think they know a lot but are dismissive of certain patients. Most doctors are beholden to insurance companies hence they will recommend the cheapest, most obvious treatment option. That's why their default view is to dismiss you with terms like: "its nothing", "happens all time", "you will be just fine" even when you know you are feeling your worst. Educated patients that advocate for themselves is the only solution. You have to be loud and aggressive or else they will just gaslight you into thinking you are ok.

I had excruciating stomach pain after I ate. My stool was blood free. I went to emergency and they gave me an ultrasound. Nothing was found. I was told more than likely had gastritis. I followed the diet. Ate bland salt free foods. My pain eventually went away. One year later, I had blood in my stool. Went back to the doctor, was given a sigmoidoscopy, boom, cancer. 3b. The doctor suspected it was slow growing and I more than likely had it during my emergency visit.

I’m going thru the same thing right NOWWWWW. I still have my hospital band on.. so yea RIGHT at this very moment.
Went to the er.. The 3 BLK 🙎🏽‍♀️nurses I had treated me like pure shit, their vibe was literal hateful, the way spoke to me was very disgusting. They were extremely unprofessional. The Dr was absolutely shitty. From check in- The 8 white nurse (all women- 1 male) that handled certain parts of my visit were absolutely professional and very sweet with great vibrations.
The Dr said your fine I don’t know why you’re hearing these symptoms. Never mention any of my test results. But he did tell me I have a mass inside of my spinal nerves at my lower spine and the pad between my spine bones in that are has worn away so eventually I will have back pain, but don’t worry about it, I’ll be fine. As He got up to leave I asked him well why am I have excruciating sharp lighting bolt pain in my stomach? I continue to walk out, threw his hands up and IN A NASTY TONE-said, “I don’t know, I don’t know what to tell you what!”.
Mind you he said this with his back turned the whole time walking out in the middle of me along him questions.
I just sat there with my mouth open. I’m still in shock.
I SWEAR IT REALLY DO BE YOUR OWN PEOPLE. I don’t overstand the venom many of them have. It’s getting to the point where- I don’t want my own RAYCE to assist me no where I go. YES, IT’S THAT BAD..
So now I have to make some other appts to see what’s really going on. These horrible stomach pains, have me in tears balled in a fetal position, stomach bloated, issues with pooping & passing gas.. BUT THERE’S NOTHING WRONG.. SMFH..

It is a documented fact that POC are the least likely to be believed or properly cared for. Beyond that women as a sex are much more likely than men to be dismissed outright. told it is all in their heads, or that it is nerves/anxiety (calm down). There is also the reality that folks who are overweight also get less consideration / care than people that are at a "normal" weight. Age matters too. We have to fight twice as hard to be heard and to be relentless. Hope things get better for you. Listening to Zykeisha's story is an inspiration to us all. Symptoms can lead to 1000 different things. The symptoms where not "dismissed". Her age, and her symptoms, werent a sign of Cancer. It makes no sense, for Drs. to jump straight to Cancer, every time someone walks into a hospital. This is what you people expect. That Drs are somehow gods, who just. "should have known better". That isnt how anything works.
She said it herself, you have to be your own advocate. Drs are humans, just like the rest of us. They can over look things, they can be wrong, and if they arent getting the full story from the patient, for whatever reason, they cant magically come to the right answer.

Where did you get your medical degree? As a nurse, I don’t claim to know everything but when a patient needs blood transfusions, has excruciating pain, they should have looked further for the cause of the bleeding. After she gave birth that should have started the ball rolling. Rectal bleeding doesn’t necessarily mean cancer, but it should have been investigated. The doctors assume that young people don’t get cancer and cancer is for older people but here’s proof of that! Go on TH-cam and look at the many young people that are being diagnosed. Thank God she is in remission but she isn’t out of the woods yet. Follow up is important! Especially if she had cancer metastasis. I will be praying for her.

@@janetberquist5800 A "nurse" asking where others got their "medical degree", is comical. Also, as a "nurse", you should understand that exceptions, do not disprove the rule, and that medicine is not done by jumping to those exceptions from the start. You obviously didnt listen to the womans story, because she said they DID investigate her symptoms, and didnt find anything that would have pointed to Cancer. 12 rounds of chemo is pretty standard for metastatic CRC. You treat until the patient progresses. They start with the regimen FOLFOX and switch to FOLFIRI because at some point the patient will progress from the initial regimen. Each round (aka cyclce) is 2 weeks in duration.

I have neuropathy from the oxaliplatin treatment, and had some dental issues due to the chemo. I am thankful for my oncologist. So far so good but I still dread every scope and scan. When cancer patients say they have "scanxiety" while waiting for results, it's no joke. But I am thankful to be alive. The shots to boost my blood count before chemo were awful but my nurses told me to take a Claritin before them and it helped with the pain. My life is very different than it was but again...I am alive!! I also didn't have small children to take care of during this. You are brave, positive and beautiful! He did the same treatment as you, and after the last PET scan which showed the tumors reduced to 5.6 cm compared to the 10 cm, they will possibly consider surgery. My heart also hurts for you regarding your teeth....I know how hard the braces must have been, and then to have the chemo destroy all of that. You are a lovely, beautiful young woman, and I am adding you to my cancer prayer list (i actually have one dedicated to those I know with cancer...sad). It really irritates me when doctors say "you're too young for this or I don't think its this or that." I just think people should be able to get full body scans annually in order to catch this stuff early! Nobody should have to go through this much! If brave and strong was a person....smh. This is why everyone needs to be a pain in the a$$ to their Dr's. regarding their own health. So many people dropped the ball in your case. I hope you consider retaining a lawyer, and have them look into the treatment you received. You are a bright light, and a beautiful woman, but you should make sure no one is ever treated the same way you were treated. Please read. Will be fine.
My father was a strong man and after he had surgery for colon-rectal cancer, he died after a lot of suffering in about three months.
The doctor thought I had the same cancer and wanted to operate on me. As I had already studied a lot about cancer, I refused the operation. The doctor told me that I will be back in six months. But 14 years of a very active life have passed.
If you want to beat the cancer:
    1. Chemotherapy means that you destroy not only your cancer cells, but also many healthy cells, which you need. A very bad thing is that it may destroy your immune system, the one that tells the body when you have cancer and that knows how to fight cancer.
    2. Radiotherapy is well known to cause cancer. The underlying idea is that cancer cells will die. it's true, it destroys them. But it can also turn healthy cells into new cancer cells. There is some hope if you follow radiation therapy with doses of radiation very precise targeted at the cancer.
    3. Surgery is a solution, but it often spreads the cancer to other parts and thus creates new cancers.
    What can you do:
    1. Prayer to God. Yes, God really exists. And He asks us to love Him, people and do good deeds.
    2. To search very persistently for our sins and mistakes. Apart from God, we all have sins. Don't look for excuses, they only have value if God considers that you deserve to be forgiven. Don’t hide yourself behind excuses like “I didn’t anything to do” or “Others did too”. I searched for my sins and mistakes for several months.
    3. Stop eating meat and sweets. It is easier that you think!
    4. Daily, up to half a liter of beetroot juice.
    5. Seeds of all kinds.
    6. Cancer is not a tragedy. Fight calmly. Moderate action.
    7. It would be very good if you have the strength to follow the treatment of Rudolf Breuss. Sure you can.
The treatment of Rudolf Breuss is based on a very strict fast. In my opinion, it's exactly what cancer can't stand. Think of a mother. Isn't she able to stay hungry just to give food to her child? Of course yes. But a pregnant woman is something else. She must give the fetus a lot of food because he needs it to grow quickly. She doesn't hold back, she wants a lot of food. If she does not eat, the child is in danger. It's the same with cancer. A normal cell can be satisfied with a little food, but a cancerous cell, which multiplies without stopping, needs a lot of food. If you don't let it eat, it is in danger of death. A normal cell can fast without problems, but a cancerous one is in danger of death. You probably know that if someone who has cancer stops eating, this is considered a sign that they will die soon. But let's think deeper. Cancer knows how to trick the immune system, which does not take measures against it even though it could. But at some point, the situation becomes so bad that the immune system understands that the organism has cancer. And what does he do? Closes the recipient with food to destroy the aggressor. But it's usually too late. What would it be like for man to close the faucet in time and stop feeding cancer?
In my opinion, the treatment of Rudolf Breuss is a very good option.
Help her, please God, to be healthy!
