  • Food storage ideas in the freezer!
It all started when we had a our kitchen knocked down for an extension… I mean ‘No Kitchen means No Food right’! and with us being so used to eating home cooked food every day three to four times a day with kids aged 4 and 6 at home! I had to work around in what way I could manage the four weeks without cooking and we did pretty well with lots of back up storing food in the freezer and trust me having that little freezer was a life savior as we had planned ahead!
From then till date nothing goes waste in our Kitchen everything is saved as a back up… fruits, veggies, breakfast, dhal, rice, khichdi, medication to delicacies!
And all the saved up food is always helpful when your are not in a mood to cook, to emergencies, to back home from a summer outing, just open the freezer door and you have a wide range of varieties to choose from!
You can choose your portion… take out only how much you need and make sure to thaw the food before eating 😊
And Ho Hey I have created these amazing Rasam Cubes just like those Instant MTR Rasam cubes you get from the stores and I was jumping up and down when it worked and tasted super good! The moment was like an invention made by me 😉 and I’m all set to just boil some water and get those cubes in.. for most of the days from now on!!
    Happy freezing!

Wonderful to see you using your freezer so much. I do the same because it's very convenient and saves time. Also because I hate wasting food.
Thanks for sharing all your ideas with us.

You're such a great mom!!! Your kids are lucky to have you....manh people doesn't feel comfortable sharing about the optimum utilization certain things like aluminum foil, freezer pouches, plastic bags....but you did it in such a nice way...
Only mothers know the hardwork that goes in making everyday meals...freezing is the best way to make our work easy but what to do when the family only wants fresh meals..!?!?!

According to Ayurveda cooked food start loosing prana energy 3 to 4 hours after cooking and after 12 hours they are not even fit for animals...thats why in India emphasis was always on freshly cooked food because food stored more than 12 hours get tamasic or negative prana in nature which can lead to all types of diseases and loss of energy..I appreciate your hard work for these videos but I think it would be more useful to just make one or two freshly made food in little quantities than making in huge quantities and storing them...cut veggies can be stored for maybe 2 or 3 days..but freezing them for months is unnatural and affects our body adversely in long run....

Ur so so right. Look at my case, v live in US, somewhere in small town where there is no Indian stores, here local grocery stores won't sell any veggies other than potatoes, onion, brocolli n few more english vegetables. My family n me r pure vegetarian, v cant survive with local veggies, with no other option v buy Indian veggies every 2 to 3 weeks n store in freezer, also I buy it in bulk bcoz it's cheaper that way. Also unlike india western countries won't have servant maid at home each day for cleaning the house or utensils, v the homemaker has to do each n everything, even on sick days, periods days v have to do, no choice. At some point v get frustrated, but still v want to eat something desi, so freezing is good option for us.

When ayurveda was formulated, people did not know the concept of freezing at all. Acc to them, it's cooked, and kept in kitchen. Of course it will spoil. Freezing is safe when done right.

It might be true for older times. Not anymore . For working women living abroad these techniques are a life saver to eat home made everyday n not depend on ordering outside or end up eating cornflakes all the time.
So please don't be discouraging.if u have time n energy to cook 3 times a day and u r a homemaker go ahead n cook fresh meals every day. More power to u, but for us mere mortals this video is a blessing in disguise.

    Pro tip:
If you dont want to freeze mint and coriander, it can be kept freah in the fridge for 1.5 weeks (personally tried and tested)
Put the coriander and mint in an air tight bowl/jar lined with tissue paper, put a whole egg in the center and cover with with the lid
    Whole egg....

Even i love my freezer and storing all kinds of fruits, vegetables, buy i just loooooove the rasam hack! So awesome! I love South indian food ,but my kids..are typical kids! So.jow I can make some and have them whenever I want! Hurray!..also always have ginger, garlic n chilli paste in the freezer. Boiled channas, n other legumes for quick meals n snacks, lime juice from our trees, boiled potatoes when I've made a few more, orange peels I save up for making home cleaners n enzymes, all chopped up fruits than we cannot finish, paratha, puri,chutney..the list is unending and the freezer is a life saver! Glad to know someone who thinks similarly!😀

It's fine to freeze a few items for easy use especially since most ladies are working long hours in office. Mainly reheating again and again is not good. After heating once and if we finish the food it's ok.

Am sorry but yes I agree wit u all.
Frozen foods a big NO NO
      Fresh is fresh.
And yes it's each individual choice.
But my mother has always thought us to eat fresh frm childhood n it's bn that way ever since.
I was shocked to hear foods kept for a year OMG !!! NO WAY...☹️
      Bad for health too
Small little things like chilli paste, ginger garlic pastes required daily, at times even tomato puree all kept frozen in ice trays it ok ok.
      And onions NO WAY
      👍🙏🙏

Personally I feel it's great to have fresh food. Food stored in the fridge/ freezer for too long looses the nutrients. Better to make food for the entire day in the morning and consume the same day

    • @parveens5685
      @parveens5685 ปีที่แล้ว

There’s no data suggesting frozen food loses nutrients. In fact food retains nutrients at the point where it’s frozen. Whereas food stored in the fridge or cold storage for a long period of time does lose ingredients. Please do some research before commenting.

    Hi sushma
    I have a question
Can we give the frozen parathas to kids for their lunch to school
Won’t they get hard by their lunch time

Yes you can Swarupa I do this many a times infact for many years now! I do apply butter for my little ones parata but it's to do for the taste ...older one takes them on their own and they say it's perfectly alright to eat doesn't get hard by lunch time it's the same

I have no experience f freezing, please explain...You freezed all different leaves in ziplock bag. When we take the pack out for use , wont it form an ice block, just taking few curry leaves we will put the pack back??

I notice a lot of your comments relating to frozen foods. Maybe those people are not aware of the concept of freezing. 😆

If we keep all items in freezer we will need a very, very big freezer or fridge when it may not be possible for all

Honestly first i thought its so much hard work...n needs to be appreciated..but on seeing the idli getting freezed too..i went totally blank..yy so much hassle...n y so much plastics n papers in use....if u r a working woman then its relatable..otherwise y not cook fresh food instead...

Hi Nina on reading your message now ...I feel it's so important for one to listen to what I'm saying in the video which makes a huge impact to what is said not just watch the video in speed mode to what one can understand totally different ...Idlies were not made to preserve but were saved for later use than going waste...and all the plastic has been re used recycled at home than dumping it into the bin ...please listen to the audio as well 💕

The choice is entirely individuals but I personally prefer not to waste anything and also this is definitely a great alternative and a heathier option than store bought frozen paratas with preservatives added
