I've got a Hungarian Puli. An intelligent, cunning & manipulative raving lunatic in a permanent hurry, who herds anything with a pulse. Including me & the cat. And if she's not doing that. She's arguing with us. And if she's not doing that. She's guarding everything. Including the house, the car, the yard & even the furniture. And yes, including me & the cat. It's ludicrous. But as amusing, adorable & affectionate as they are. They're also extremely protective of the humans they mercilessly exploit. And territorial over their 'herd'. So you must watch them around children & strangers. And other people's pets. They're strong willed & stubborn. With a strong chase instinct, incredible speed & agility. They will chase them down to the bitter end. Hence, the Puli is not for the feint hearted. Only experienced, confident, patient & committed people need apply. The care of their coats is also endless. They are high maintenance dogs. In every conceivable way. But the rewards are endless. You'll never find a more affectionate, empathetic, loving, loyal & hilarious companion. Nor a more alert, brave & efficient guard dog in the world. So beware! Once you've had a Puli. No other breed will ever be good enough. Meanwhile. Isten áldja Magyarországot!

What are some things you experienced in the first year with your Puli? I just recieved one about the same age as yours was... just looking for tips and tricks
djrobinhamilton I looked it up to see if keeping their dreads are high maintenance and everyone says it’s not too bad, all you have to do is separate them and they’ll form and once they get longer it’s not as hard as people claim, only thing I’ve found that’s hard about their hair is drying them lmao but those full body doggie dryers would be capable of drying them off within 2 hours instead of fanning them dry overnight lmaoooo

Has anyone here ever heard of a smooth-coated puli? I can't find any mention of it anywhere, including on Hungarian websites. My parents had a white puli purchased from a Hungarian couple way back in the '70s in the US. Her coat was gently wavy, not kinky, 4-5 inches long. She was sheared every summer. She had all the classic characteristics of pulik: joyful, energetic, loving. I would like another like her. Don't want the hassle of the coat. Do want the wonderful personality!
I see this video where they are inside the house and in the couch with her owner... but I read on an article that they are not inside dogs and that their smell is very strong... is that true? I really want to have one and have him as a family pet mainly living inside... is that possible?

Hi I have a 8 month puli. How does one start to cord, any advice would be helpful. I'm getting frustrated as I am not sure what I am doing. Thanks Chrissy
I'm a proud Puli parent to two beautiful girls. The older one is white and the younger is black. They have the same mother and father just from two different litters. My white one gypsy is corded. And the black one velvet had a magnificent fully corded body. Yet she turned around 6 they start getting spindly towards her body. So I trimmed them all off. Her hair is now about 7 inches long and I keep her brushed out. Meaning she is not matted or corded. I'm just naturally curly. I would like to put her into fine small cords like I see on one of the babies in this video. I just don't know how to make chords now that the hair is that long. If anyone can show me how to do it I would truly appreciate it! I'm a barber by trade and my own hair is past my elbows so I am accustomed to having and taking the time for their coats. They are so very sweet, gentle natured, and intelligent! If I move something while they're out of the room when they come into the room they bark because something has been changed. When I was teaching them basic commands I also taught them verbal commands and with hand signs. Gypsy rarely barks while velvet loves to let the lizards know she's on her way out the door! They are my heart's delight and I can't imagine my life without them!💝
Seems a bit of an assumption to say "my dogs aren’t standoffish with strangers" and "my dogs love everybody". Anyone who says "My ____ does this or that" about an animal is speaking for the animal. I know it’s morbid, and maybe ridiculous, but all I’m saying is… realistically, it’s not quite "correct" to ever say your pet, your companion, service animal, livestock, etc. is a certain "way" or behaves in a certain manner, let alone THINKS or FEELS a certain way! They don’t say that about you. Do you know what they’re feeling?
