As lots of viewers are telling me, in one variation I failed to go right to the end and announced checkmate incorrectly. Well spotted everyone! :)

Well I must add: thank you so much Daniel King for the best chess commentary on the internet bar none, your expositions are a model of concision and clarity, delivered in a manner that exudes kindness and rational tranquility.

What an amazing attack. Shirov has really his own impressive style!

Basically he used his KING as a massive ATTACKING PIECE in the middle game in the MIDDLE of the BOARD. One needs immense intuition and immense courage. This is a genius fused with madman!

I'm always on fire when I see a Shirov game, and I'm never bored.

Amazing. Thanks for covering these out-of-top-level games, that sometimes turns out to be more interesting and entertaining!

@T1000 Ex this has nothing to do with Alpha zero. This is making moves that makes your oponnent moves as dificult as possible. AZ doesn't know that concept

@T1000 Ex wasn't really meant in a bad way. Apologies if it looked that way.

I've been reviewing the KG material in the PowerPlayChess download (on Mac!) again, and have been playing 1. e4 and the KG when my opponents play 1...e5. Still mostly in online blitz. But it's fun to see the pause when 2. f4 appears on the board.
This game is covered a bit for this variation. The video here is an excellent, and more extensive, supplement for that game in the DVD.
Glad I'm a patron so I can watch videos without YT's horrible ads.

At 13:15 it's not checkmate with Qg7, but only after Kh5 and Bf7#.

Listening to "Breaking the law" late to work from my break and watching Shirov play the king's gambit...oh yeah!

Mr. King, as I am sure you are well aware, there will soon be an exhibition match in No-castling chess between Anand and Kramnik. At the same time, there will be an online qualification event in the same format. Seeing the rising interest in this variant, it would be much appreciated if you could showcase some of the more interesting games that as of now have been played, once King's Gambit week is over.

Ha! I like your eye-rolling cynicism toward the 'approved' lines. ;)
Perhaps you ought to add that to your list of memes?! (Any 'approved line' that fails to connect the rooks must be hopeless!)

Am I missing something? There's no mate on g7 but mate follows after ...Kh5. Bf7#

The King's Gambit does produce great attacking games, unlike the boring Giuoco Piano, Berlin Defense, Petrov and QGD

He looks the same as he did in the 1970s when I was at school. Why does everyone age apart from Daniel King? He should launch his own grooming products.

Said it before but why did AS not play Kasparov for the world title after he had convincingly beaten Kramnik ??? Would like to know why because we would have had some wonderful games between Shirov and Kasparov instead we had the Berlin in London bore feast .
    Great analysis as always Danny👍👍

The 2000 World Chess Championship was a turning point in the way chess is played. That is when FIDE should have changed the rules and awarded 2 points for a win.
