    I've been a builder for many years and have seen quite a fair bit of sheds. The plans in ryan's package th-cam.com/users/postUgkxB7IXYxLzb_Ichhe45zM3Im5xfEiSp9vB have some of the nicest looking sheds i've seen in a while.

    The reason I like this show is that it keeps things light, doesn't take itself seriously. Yet it's serious about keeping things real.
    I'm just an enthusiast, not a builder.

    Pro Tip. After applying the adhesive don't drop the sheet, place it slowly so all the adhesive doesn't go flying off. You do it the right way but didn't mention it :)

    Would be interested in seeing an episode on your filming equipment (cameras, phones, lighting, sound, etc), editing setup (software, hardware, etc), and process (ex. do you discuss what will be filmed the next day, who takes the shots, when do you edit and how much time it takes, how do you decide what you keep and what gets cut, etc)!
    Love your videos and the camaraderie on-site!!!

    When I was young I worked in framing. I knew then that my body wouldn’t hold up over the years. I’ve built a few decks since then but its just playing around compared to you. Watching your videos, I ALMOST believe I could do it again at my age. Always enjoy you’re videos! And yes I’m old enough to know about 1x t&g nailed on a diagonal

    Our house was built in 1921 and the 1"x2" wood floor strips are fastened (nailed) straight to the 2"x12" floor joist. It is the nosiest, bounciest house I've lived in. I'm pretty sure Arlo was on the crew because it is built as square as a Martinez square. BTW, I relate so much to Jono OCDism, i love his attention to detail!

  • @johnjamesterbeek
    @johnjamesterbeek ปีที่แล้ว

    Arlo ain't lying, my house built in 1968 had 1x6 boards on a diagonal as an underlayment. They rolled down tar paper roofing felt as a vapor barrier and nailed down 3/4" particle board on top. The oak hardwood floors squeaked like crazy because the particle board couldn't hold a nail.

    I like how you guys work at a steady methodical pace. I watch other US framing videos it's all about cutting and nailing as fast as possible and then standing around smoking and looking at it. In the end it's not faster, just rougher and more dangerous.

    I have never used glue, only subfloor screws. Simpson has a very cool drill attachment that uses collated zinc screws. We have had zero floor squeaks in 10 years. Also, why not flip the sheets around so that you’re hitting the groove side?

  • @stevenfoust3782

    We run groove side to the line so when you beat subsequent panels into place you don’t damage the tongue. Also, we don’t nail the side band joists until the underlayment is complete. Then we string a line to straighten the whole side at once.

  • @MikeC19100
    @MikeC19100 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Having the sub-floor with trimmed edges saves a lot of wear and tear on the hands, gloves, or whatever. One thing good about sampling the purple glue for taste testing...it will stick with you every time. (that even made me groan). It's nice to see that you use glue for every sheet. When the builders built our home they used glue around the edges, but then dispensed with it around the middle of the home and we have so many squeaks that it's unbelievable after 20 years in the same home.

    @6:15 New SOP. You need to yell "Back blast area, clear?" And the crew yells back "clear!" That's what we did (do) in the Army before firing weapons like M72 LAW, Dragons, or AT4 (bazookas, essentially). That flying sledge hammer can probably do some damage. Hmm, Flying Sledge Hammer - that's a good metal band name! 😁 And can we appreciate Jason @13:08??? 😁

  • @Beandiptheredneck
    @Beandiptheredneck 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    The house I grew up in had 1x5 planks laid diagonal for the subfloor, it squeaked like no other, they weren't even tongue and groove, just notched to overlap like rigid foam sheets do, half of the joints didn't even land on joists lol

    • @joshuap9580

  • @GrowingOrganicTvShow
    @GrowingOrganicTvShow 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Tack nail a long 2x4 across perpendicular to the joists every 8ft or so. It will hold joists straight until you lay plywood. No getting out your tape and measuring each time. Take your nail gun and hold the safety trigger and shoot the nail so it sticks up a half inch or so. When you reach the 2x4 simply pull nail with hammer claw without having to use cat paw.
