Maybe a bad choice of words and didn’t mean it as a negative. Just meant it lacks the flash of some of his other big films. I’m very much coming around on it though, like I said in my review.
Louis: "What do I do?" Ordell: "You ain't gotta do nothin, man. Just point it at the car, push the button. You'll hear a little "oo ooo oo". That means doors unlocked and the alarm's off. Get in... And play the volume as loud as you want but don't touch my levels, now. I got them set just like I like em."
I wasn’t a fan for the longest time. Since I love Tarantino films so much, I would rewatch Jackie Brown every few years. Thankfully it finally clicked for me and now I love it. Definitely one of the more subtle QT movies.
I agree with you. Some youtubers discouraged buying the steel, saying its ugly. But after seeing some other reviews, i cancelled the stndard 4k and bought the steel. Its a really good looking steel. And if you are a fan like me, it makes sense to have this one in steel.
Knew I was getting this as soon as it was announced, thanks for confirming the special features are the same as the BR. My Tarantino ranking: Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, Reservoir Dogs, Django, Kill Bill 1, Kill Bill 2, Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Hateful Eight, Inglorious Basterds.
Glad to hear the native 4K looks good! Unfortunately for the ones left to get 4Ks, Death Proof will be 2K upscale, Django Unchained will be a 2K upscale but The Hateful Eight should be native 4K from a 70mm.
I was just gonna get the regular slip cover kill bill 1-2 but after seeing your review on the kill bill 1 steelbook I just ordered the kill bill 1-2 steelbooks hopefully next payday I’ll order the Jackie brown steelbook
1. Pulp Fiction or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood 3. Reservoir Dogs 4. Kill Bill 5. Jackie Brown 6. The Hateful 8 7. Inglorious Basterds 8. Death Proof 9. Django Unchained
It was super tough ranking every QT film. I am in the same boat as you Ken, he is my favorite director, I absolutely love & adore all of his films and each one is among my all-time favorites! (1.) Pulp Fiction (2.) Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2 (3.) Django Unchained (4.) Hateful Eight (5.) Inglorious Basterds (6.) Resorior Dogs (7.) Death Proof (8.) Jackie Brown (9.) Once Upon A Time In Hollywood
@midlevelmedia thanks for the review. It puzzles me how great this turned out where Kill Bill is an atrocity. A beautiful filmic look, like you say, with natural grain, excellent color timing and a 100GB disc with a proper bitrate. Very happy with it but at the same time sad how they handled Kill Bill. Hopefully The Hateful Eight is next with a transfer that blows anything out of the water. But afraid they will fuck up this classic somehow.
I like the artwork on the back of the steelbook. But not the front artwork. So I'll probably just get the standard 4k. Still haven't decided on the Kill Bill 4ks?
JB is one of Tarantino's best. In my opinion, his flashiness is his weakness. That's what makes him a one trick pony. Most of his movies devolve into some bs 20 min gore fest at some point. If he made more movies like Jackie Brown, his legacy would be stronger. In 20 years people won't remember some of his other movies because they don't amount to much more than stylized flash.
Hi Ken, we are getting this March 31 be arriving here early April, not sure whether to get Kill Bill cos i have it on Japanese import DVD Uncut, and i have Kill bill1/2 on steelbook/Blu-Ray . Loving your review that dropped earlier.
Was this a purchase ken?? or a review copy?? because if you were sent it to review everyone know's you wont bite the hand that feeds you and im just tired of minor upgrades in PQ and now im stuck with 4 copies of the same movie, which is not ideal when im trying to save shelf space.
10:01 before he gets into the actual review of the transfer and disc. No offense I think he needs to make his thoughts on the film a separate video or keep it very short. No mentions of bit rate, conparsion pictures from the Blu-ray to 4k
1. Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill 2. Jackie Brown, Reservoir Dogs 3. Django Unchained 4. H8ful Eight, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood 5. Death Proof True Romance + From Dusk Till Dawn 👍👍 Four Rooms ..meh.
My Top 3 Tarantino films are Jackie Brown, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, and Death Proof. When he’s in hangout movie mode, he’s at his best (in my book).
Where did you hear that? Voices inside your head?😉 It’s just your own wild guess and wishful thinking. As of January 2025 there are no details or anything on a possible physical or even digital 4K release of the Hateful Eight.
The reasons you cited for not liking it as much as Tarantino’s other films are the reasons why I think it’s his best film. It showed that he was maturing and evolving as a director. But Jackie Brown wasn’t a big commercial success, so he regressed into being an insufferable fan boy and made stuff like the Kill Bills and Death Proof. As for the rest of his filmography between Basterds and Hateful, there’s moments that remind you how vibrant and vital Tarantino was when he was making stuff like Dogs and Pulp, but that stretch between 2009 and 2014 is bogged down by his unwillingness to streamline his films.
that art work looks dumb, boring odd duck looking steelbook....reminds me of those learning to read books for kids 😂 JB is good flick though i prefer his Death Proof, Dusk till dawn.
“Play the volume loud as you want to, but don't touch my levels now. I got them set just like I like 'em"
Your a fan of that line too, huh? Lol. Tarantino's dialogue is always fun to listen to.
Jackie Brown is QT most underrated film
Death Proof is. Jackie Brown was huge when it came out
@@alexdas2000i was going to say this.
his best film
It's the same when you said the more I watch the terminator the more I like it I've had this on Blu-ray for sooo many years it's a classic
It feels different because it's an Elmore Leonard story. Not to take away from QT direction, but I feel that's why it doesn't feel like QT.
Dude it's not generic. It's his best movie. Very in depth character study.
Not his best but also definitely not generic. Has aged very well too
Inglourious + Pulp + Kill Bill my favorite 3. Jackie + Reservoir Tied for 2nd. Then Django 3rd, H8tful + Once Upon tied for 4th. Death Proof last.
I'd put jackie as my number one then pulp fiction.
Maybe a bad choice of words and didn’t mean it as a negative. Just meant it lacks the flash of some of his other big films. I’m very much coming around on it though, like I said in my review.
@midlevelmedia to me it's his most satisfying movie when it's over. When the credits roll.
Louis: "What do I do?"
Ordell: "You ain't gotta do nothin, man. Just point it at the car, push the button. You'll hear a little "oo ooo oo". That means doors unlocked and the alarm's off. Get in... And play the volume as loud as you want but don't touch my levels, now. I got them set just like I like em."

I think that’s what is happening to me. Moved up on this recent rewatch.
Great job. One of your best videos. You discussed the film without going too long and made some solid points. Good length and energy.
As i get older, this movie creeps up into my top QT films
“I didn’t know you like the Delfonics…”
It's always been my favourite Tarantino.
i. love. Jackie Brown.
my top QTs...
Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Jackie, Pulp, and the Bills.
My favorites too 👍
Great review man. Good work in explaining your response to this film. Now I’m off to Amazon to order order it.
Jackie Brown is my favorite QT movie as well, so happy it’s finally on 4K. Do they retain the original Miramax logo at the beginning?
Jackie Brown is #1
Jackie Brown my fav Tarantino film. SLJ should have won an Oscar
I agree with you. Some youtubers discouraged buying the steel, saying its ugly. But after seeing some other reviews, i cancelled the stndard 4k and bought the steel. Its a really good looking steel. And if you are a fan like me, it makes sense to have this one in steel.
My Steelbook is on the way!!! Great Review ..
“ MAX CHERRY!!”
I get mine tomorrow. I can't wait!
Four Rooms on 4k would be nice!
I agree!
Oh, yeah.
It's nice watching a movie where the cast isn't strictly 18 to 25 year olds.
I ordered the standard version’s of all 3 and they shipped out yesterday.
Glad to hear the native 4K looks good!
Unfortunately for the ones left to get 4Ks, Death Proof will be 2K upscale, Django Unchained will be a 2K upscale but The Hateful Eight should be native 4K from a 70mm.
I'd love to have a 4K of it but out of all of them, I feel like Grindhouse's bluray presentation suits its style quite well.
I was just gonna get the regular slip cover kill bill 1-2 but after seeing your review on the kill bill 1 steelbook I just ordered the kill bill 1-2 steelbooks hopefully next payday I’ll order the Jackie brown steelbook
Always been my fave QT film, for how laid back and soulful it is. That's just more my vibe
Hell ya Ken! So glad i ordered this. My least watched Tarantino film next to Death Proof. Need to revisit this one
The only tarantino film i haven't seen yet
1. Pulp Fiction or Once Upon a Time in Hollywood
3. Reservoir Dogs
4. Kill Bill
5. Jackie Brown
6. The Hateful 8
7. Inglorious Basterds
8. Death Proof
9. Django Unchained
It feels different because it’s based off of a novel. Rum Punch by Elmore Leonard.
Second!, man can’t wait to see this 4k
I thought Robert Forrester stole the show in this film. A very, very underrated actor (or maybe unknown actor to some).
He was great. I like how there’s a few fantastic performances here and none of them take away from each other.
He died the night before his episode aired at the end of Breaking Bad. Weird.
I think this is the 5th best QT for me. I like it, but don't need it on day one.
Mine is still waiting to be shipped but label created lol
For old times sake I wish Kenny would get all hyperbolic about the 4k transfer and bad mouth the blu ray ❤

i bought the standard Jackie and Bills. can't wait to get them.
F extra features. 😆

He actually does give criticism to review copy’s and has addressed and proven it recently
It's the one 4K OCN rescan out of all of the recent QT 4Ks. I see no reason why it wouldn't look best
Weres the link for the Jackie brown steelbook
In the description Robert.
lionsgatelimited
Jackie Brown is my favorite QT movie. It's my number 1 pick.
2. OUTIH
3. KB v1&2
4. PF
5. H8
6. IB
7. DU
8. RD
9. DP
Jackie Brown is a must own. I am planning on picking it up soon. The price should be $34.99. $5.01 overpriced
The most mature film by Tarantino. To me is among the best he did.
Top 3 QT for me.
10:01 before he gets into the actual review of the transfer and disc. No offense I think he needs to make his thoughts on the film a separate video or keep it very short. No mentions of bit rate, conparsion pictures from the Blu-ray to 4k
Wheres the fat in reservoir dogs? Pulp fiction? True romance?
Maybe not Reservoir, but all the Bruce Willis stuff is the fat in Pulp.
@ hell no. Thats the best story in the entire movie
1. Inglourious Basterds, Pulp Fiction, Kill Bill
2. Jackie Brown, Reservoir Dogs
3. Django Unchained
4. H8ful Eight, Once Upon A Time in Hollywood
5. Death Proof
True Romance + From Dusk Till Dawn 👍👍
Four Rooms ..meh.
Someone on here said Jackie Brown collectors edition on dvd was good etc, so i bought it was about £5
It is great for the time and the extras. Yet try and watch it on a 80” 4K TV😄😉
The best part of the movie is when Robert shoe-lift Deniro gets what he deserves from Sam Jackson....😂😂😂😂
My Top 3 Tarantino films are Jackie Brown, Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, and Death Proof. When he’s in hangout movie mode, he’s at his best (in my book).
I'd say Jackie Brown is easily in my top 3 Tarantino films.
PS I hear The Hateful Eight is coming dunno when , probably Autumn/Winter 2025.
Where did you hear that? Voices inside your head?😉

$40, are you crazy?
So get the slip cover version at 27.96
@ absolutely!
It’s his best story because he didn’t write it
that art work looks dumb, boring odd duck looking steelbook....reminds me of those learning to read books for kids 😂 JB is good flick though i prefer his Death Proof, Dusk till dawn.
I’d argue that once upon a time in Hollywood features Tarantino’s best writing.
That movie is just a vibe and I love it
First again!
I really don't see what the big deal about Tarantino is. To each their own.
Boy that was really exciting, I bet you're a big Lee ”Marvel” fan
@@andypickeringmusic Why the hate Karen?
@@johnhollo6881 I just tried to lightly humour your attempt at rage bait
Good stay out
@johnhollo6881 that's a line from Reservoir Dogs except "marvel" instead of Marvin.
How did you get it early ?
Badass 10/10 film. Nice steelbook too, but I have a better one
