Hi Imelda. Without knowing the specifics of the situation, my instinct would be to keep any reference to that in your speech pretty vague. More along the lines of, “We’ve had our ups and downs, but I want you to know I’ll do everything in my power to support you and ____ moving forward.” Something that acknowledges there’s been some negative stuff, but doesn’t make the audience uncomfortable. And, if you feel you still need to make a specific apology, maybe do that privately or one to one. If there’s already awkwardness between you, I personally wouldn’t want to take the risk of making things more awkward by putting her on the spot with a public apology. But again, that’s a gut feeling, without knowing all the specifics of your situation. If you want specific feedback and wording, I do speech audits and editing calls where read your speech and offer specific suggestions. You can find more info on that here: authenticallyfunnyspeeches.com/#audits
