Just the intro noise gave me shivers. The first Splatterhouse gave me nightmares so bad when I was a kid. Didn't get passed the third level because it was too scary..
I remember going on late on the time when Jennifer was slowly devoured by the worms, amd she turns into a beast, that face stuck with me for a whole because the lights were cut out right after. I rolled under my bed for an hour until the lights came on again lol

I saw the recording of the hearing. You can find it on yutube easy and I need to say that judge was not really that bad. He just wanted to have a neutral rating system in place. You can see that he was happy when in the 2nd hearing Nintendo, SEGA, and some big store chains told him about ESRB.
The ESRB rating designs look cool, but tbh, there *really* isn't a point for them to still be around anymore. You have ten year olds playing CoD and stuff, so it's pointless to have a rating system that 99 percent of people ignore.

Though because it is one of the oldest gaming classification before era of high definition graphic, many of core ideas behind ESRB is slightly outdated. People also commonly mistake minimal age with designed age, as many games proper for young kids in fact could be designed for mature people, just don't use boobs and gore to promote product to teen.

Its a series Id love to see again cause you could do so much with it, in terms of gameplay: Like a traditional 2D Beat Em Up, like the Old days. But, with improved moves and controls. Or continue the 3D Beat Em Up element, introduced in the 2010 game, with major improvements, ofcourse. All wrapped in a nice lil bouquet of inspired themes from 80s Slasher and Horror films, and Eldritch inspired stuff from the likes of HP Lovoecraft and such, while also taking place in a Spooky Mansion.
Splatterhouse is such an awesome series who has had devs and fans with great love of the games and source materials Needs more love. Great to see such avid fans on here, you all rock!

I also read somewhere that in the original game, Rick was intended to be a maniac chasing Jennifer rather than trying to save her, but in the manual they changed it so he was the hero. If that's true, I think they made the right choice. It becomes a very effective bit of story telling.
Positively Dreadful Well in the first game you actually KILL Jennifer and the whole plot of the 2nd game is to resurrect her. But in the western release of Splatterhouse 2 they changed it to real Jennifer being imprisioned in the "hidden house". But in the Japanese version she was DEAD.
I'm surprised the team missed something so easy to fact check. I mean even the movie is branded "H.P. Lovecraft's classic tale of horror", unless they meant to imply that he was based specifically off of Jeffrey Comb's portrayal, then there are better ways to phrase that statement.

I was actually introduced to the series with Jennifer being eaten by worms from inside (Splatterhouse 3)... (especially her beast form 😖) Though the more I think of it, the more I feel like trying this game out, despite the (very) disturbing bad endings from that game.
also, in 2005, I personally contacted Namco and pushed them for a new Splatterhouse game. I suggested they include an unlockable mini game to be packed in with the next Splatterhouse. I showed Namco my prototype in 2005 called "Splatterhouse Flash Mini Game." Namco Emailed me back, "Namco is no longer interested in doing any new games with the Splatterhouse series. We have moved on to focus on our other properties. Thank you." That's disappointing, I thought to myself. Then fast forward to 2009 and they release the next game. I wonder what changed their minds. My current project is VR Street Fighter 2 for the E-Sports by Capcom. Take a wild guess, what I could do for Splatterhouse now.
I believe the arcade version was released in Japan on Candy Cabs, such as Namco's Consolette. Candy Cabs have been very common in Japan since the mid-80's.
I literally just realized I want him in Smash too. Doom Guy was one of my last big wants, but I recently played Splatterhouse 2 and loved it and I think the series deserves more recognition.
As a note, the name Herbert West and even the title "Reanimator" are borrowed from H.P. Lovecraft works. So Doctor West is technically a Lovecraft reference, that there is also a movie based on. :P

Asmin Siza in which the movie is based. weird to not list the story, but the movie helped make that story more popular/visible.
