After removing the cartridge be sure to check on its inner end for the two D-shaped washers, like on the new cartridge. Otherwise if they are stuck inside on the rear of the body the new cartridge will be very hard to rotate and the faucet will leak and you will have to repeat the whole replacement process.
Hi! The retainer sleeves on the older style tub/shower trims unscrew by turning it counterclockwise to remove. when I take the old cartridge out it has 2 circle washers. The replacement cartridge I received (974-3210) has two D shaped washers. are these interchangeable? or will it leak
Well overall I would say this is a good video. Here's where it went bad for me. If you see at the beginning of your video where you loosen the screw with 2 fingers, well that didn't work that screw would not come out for anything. I used a Klein T handle hex and it wouldn't budge. I applied "Brake Free" spray and let it soak and tried for hours. Finally it stripped out. So I watched videos on how to get a stripped hex screw out ...nothing worked I tried with all my might and tools. Finally, I got out the Dewalt 1/2 drill with Titanium bits and let it have it. The bits broke like tooth picks. I couldn't Frikin believe it. Next I got out the Motabo grinder. I used a 1 mm Dronco metal cutting wheel and let it rip. It was loud and metal was flying but after 20 minutes I was only a quarter inch and exhausted. The handle still wasn't budging. I dropped the grinder and went for the Milwaukee 13 Amp Sawzall. I popped on a Diablo Demon 3rd Gen carbide tipped blade and took it to it. It sounded like a battle zone. Again progress was made but not what one would expected considering I had just used a blade like that to cut through 3/8 inch tubular steel like butter. Finally I just grabbed a sledge hammer and a demolition screw driver and whacked the bastard off snapping that plastic piece. The rest came out fine just like you showed. I did have to buy the whole shower handle set finish the install and all is up and running. But thats where things go different than the videos. Thanks for the tutorial it is technically spot on, but like sailing on a sunny day. Unfortunately I hit a storm.
Price Pfister has a "Pforever" warranty (free replacement) if you were the original buyer of the item. That said, older price pfister cartridges are cheap, around $20.
FYI Home Depot has the brand Danko which is used for Pfister. My faucet would turn off. Turns out there was a tiny pebble ( probably from when the house was built) inside . My dad finally figured out the problem. Total time with gettin* the part 1.5 hours . Parts about $45 at Home Depot
Mine needed all the pieces included the metal plate and screws, the screws at $7dlls each, in 10 days and $84dlls later I will have all the parts to fix the leak.
This little th-cam.com/users/postUgkxVoi3B4CB6Oygq1-vo4OTL1M_M5JkrXif tub works perfect in our 6 x 6 shower and is easy to get in and out. Also easy to drain.
Hi! You might be able to take it out with a small rubber band. If you place a small thin rubber band at the end of the hex wrench and insert it into the hex screw, it will give you a good grip to unscrew it from the handle. If you need further assistance from us or a new handle to replace it in case it gets damaged during the removal process... please get in touch with our Support Team here: www.pfisterfaucets.com/parts-support/ask-a-question?sf268247070=1 or call them at: 1-800-PFAUCET (1-800-732-8238) Thanks - Pfister Social
Plumber wanted $250 to fix a leaky shower. Watched this & 1 other video. Went to plumbing store & purchased new cartridge for $30. Fixed in 15 minutes. It's not rocket science people.
In April 2014 the original Pfister cartridge broke and had to be replaced. Because I am not a DIY person, I had to hire an expensive licensed plumber to do this. Now, my hot water is not hot enough! Yesterday, Pfister sent me a link to a video to guide me through the steps on how to adjust the temperature on the cartridge. I bet I will have to rehire the plumber. grrr

Excellent instructional video! This 60-year-old woman saved herself a plumber's bill!
I just replaced my shower valve cartridge with the help of this video! Thank you!
Does this fix the issue if water leaking from the shower faucet after the handle is in the off position?

This rocked. Worked 100%. Nice job PP!

@1:10 I don't see a retainer sleeve on our chrome flange. How can I remove the flange?
How do I order a replacement cartridge and stem? Lowes?

I would flush the line before installing the new valve. Sometimes there are big chunks of debris/calcium stuck in the lines.

James Mohon A plumbing chain wanted $300. A private plumber only wanted $80. I found him on Thumbtack.
So it's not a washer but this kit..
When I pull the cartridge out large amounts of water continuously comes out even though the main is off. Could this be draining from water heater?

That's the same thing I was thinking. Would be nice to reach around the plexiglass, but my wall doesn't work like that.
