- If you're looking for some helpful advice on some of the kit to bring to a week long larp event, this video is meant to inspire! Short disclaimer: This video is just for armor and garb. Hygiene bag packed separately! Unfortunately, I do not attend Bico anymore but kept this video up to help others pack for their adventures!

Don't forget a Decorum Water bottle! The plumbing on the upper field is not working and all water needs to be carried to the field, the fort, and the woods.
All the New Town, and Old Town faucets were working fine. Just to clarify.
Jeremy Springfield great suggestion! Ordo Cervi brings water out for everyone but it's always good to have your own.

Love the hat. I recommend adding a bag of snacks. I make a point of always having half a dozen clementines or oranges with me. Dehydration at Bico is no joke, and water alone put at least 4 people out of action because of electrolyte imbalance. One orange per litre of water keeps you right. A bag of jerky for non-vegans serves well too.
i keep my snacks in my camera bag! haha and I usually just swing by the produce store they have on site for fruits. Luckily for me TVN provides really good meals, so I rarely need to get anything else. I'll make sure I cover that in my next video about Bico. :)

Could you give us an over review of the different types of magic at Bico and its carrier system/how it's done? I've always wanted to go but I only have experience with the magic system for Alliance LARP and I can't understand French well enough to read the rule book.

Ah I had made all the payments to come to bico with the Voyage North but was not able to get passed the border into Canada I was so excited but life has a bad since of what is funny sometimes. I truly hope you had fun tho wish I could have gone.

Nothing wrong with hand sewing your own. Plenty of tutorials online and Gawd knows it's the easiest of patterns.
I was curious about how the nobility works at bicolline? I can’t find anything, but mo mo has mentioned royalty too and people like knew he was royalty

My friend who went to Bicolline used some very simple but pretty indian dress's for her first larp and added some extra pazass with her bag and decorations!

Thanks for this video! I am looking at going to Bicolline in 2019 and all your tips for bico are extremely useful to someone who hasn't larped before, let alone been to bico! I have one question though, where have you bought your pants before? And what kind of pants do you usually find most comfortable?
I bought my pants from Amazon. I found them by searching, "Hippie Yoga Pants".

toasters I have a pretty big suitcase. All the garb and armor goes into one bag. I bring a duffle bag for bath stuff and a camera bag for my equipment.
Larp Girl ahhhh this makes sense. I wasn't sure if you smooshed all the bags into that suitcase or not! xD Do you check one bag, carry on another, and then use the camera bag for your "purse"? Or just check two bags? (PS- sad face about your old camera bag because that looks SO LOVELY)

Bilgewat3r it was uncomfortably sweaty in my apartment. I really wanted to make this video so I pushed through. Also I've been feeling much more positive about myself lately. I've been trying to slowly sneak my weird humor in. 💙

Hi Larp girl! I'm extremely new to larp (haven't even gotten to try it yet.. :T) and as someone under 18, I was curious of the age restrictions at Bicolline, since it seems that nearly every really good larp doesnt allow teens :[
Hello Carrie! I believe the age restriction for Bicolline is that only participants over the age of 18 can play on the battlefield. The rest of the camp grounds they are free to enjoy the non-combat side of the larp with a parent or guardian nearby. They even have a few activities throughout the year and at the grand battle for younger players to participate in. Hope this is helpful. Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

A video talking about making Bicolline approved characters and what sort of backstories are appropriate, would be nice! I'm having a hard time making someone up completely blind. I know nothing about Bicolline story line and I know no one from there. Trying not to write too much but alas writing is my hobby and my brain keeps adding stuff LOL
This request comes up sometimes and I would like to make a video about it, however I am taking a break from Bico and creating content for a little bit. Creating a persona at Bicolline can be a bit of a challenge at first, but I have some guidance that may help you create your character.
First, Bico is a pretty low key roleplay experience. If you want to roleplay, you set up scenes or from time someone will come to you with it. However, most of the roleplay at Bico is lose freeform. Most people go to bico to relax in medieval garb, see friends, fight and party. This is more of a battle game festival then a traditional larp experience. However it is still very fun!
With that in mind, try to think of a medieval version of yourself. Something simple. Pull together a costume that speaks to the person you want to portray yourself to be. This is similar to other larp events.
The best advice I have ever received was when someone said, "do not rely on a back story for bico. Not many people will want to engage with the story you created prior to playing. They want to hear the war stories of what you've encountered. Try to think about bringing a special scene that introduces who your character is. A ritual? or maybe a workbench? A lesson or possible gospel from the religoun you may choose. People at bico want to experience play together and that is what I recommend for developing your character.

I've had some people tell me I can do whatever I want to and others say I have to adhere to strict rules so I was confused and your reply was very helpful. I'll take your advice and be on the more relaxed side of things whether my brain makes up backstory or not is another matter lol. Can you do a video of answering are questions I have some do you have travel on a plane or do travel in car, if you can’t drive there and go on a plane and they have to look through your bags could it cause problems, if you are a girl do you have to wear dresses, and do you also have to wear medieval clothes when there
I travel by car and have traveled by plane to Bico. Plan to have customs check your bag. I've flown in with chainmail, helmet and a few larp weapons. It's important to tell them the truth, that the weapons are "toys".
You do not have to wear dresses at Bico. It's just really nice and breezy on the hot summer days. Though sometimes even the men do! Dresses are pretty wonderful for anyone to wear, but I've never experience sexism in that format at Bico.
During the time of "game on", at Bico, you will be required to wear a larp costume/garb. You can wear whatever is modern and comfortable underneath, however whatever is seen by other players should be in-decorum.
Is there anything else to do, at Bico than just fighting? I've tried a handful of LARPs and realizing that I really don't like the combat heavy LARPs and so far that's all I can find in my area.
Dandi's Den there is an entire other side of Bicolline. The meta game, the politics, troll ball, live bands, shopping, restaurants, taverns, magic rituals, camp fire stories, quests, monsters, blacksmiths working in the middle of town. Literally so many things. :)

Hi i'm new to larp and I've been thinking about flying from Australia to go to bicoilline do you have any advice for a noob? I was thinking about making my own outfits. but I heard there's a online game to make or join the guilds is that right or do you get assigned to faction when you sign up to the voyage north website
Since you live in the US, if I’m not mistaken, how do you travel with larger weapons? Is it a matter of just big suitcases or is there a special way you ship your weapons to bico
Generally I will throw them into a suitcase. For Bico, I drive, so I transport them in my car. From time to time when traveling by plane, I will put them in a cardboard box and use them as one of my checked luggage. There is often an additional cost that comes with that and TSA will sometimes take them out of the luggage and ask questions. I usually tell them exactly what I'm doing. The name of the place I'm going and only refer to them as "toys" instead of weapons, or replicas. However, I recently got a ski bag which a few friends have recommended. From what I understand getting a sports equipment bag is the best way to travel with larp weapons. :)
You can also ship your weapons to Bico! They have a mailing address. Just add your name and the name of your guild to the receiver line so they know where to leave it. :)

Just curious I just getting into larp and I know this is an older video so there isn't a chance of you responding but how does a summoner class / mage work ? How do you summon things
Short response: There is a rulebook in french that the GMs can send you for information about magic. If you talk with mages at the Bico events, they can answer these things for you and eventually get you a teacher to learn how. However in order to use magic, you have to spend in game resources and out of game cash to learn your first spell. It also takes a few months for that spell to kick in depending on what level it is.
Thought about getting an arming cap for your helmet?
Yes! I just have a limited budget and the ductape foam trick is working for now. :)

Unfortunately I cannot. I would suggest visiting their community fb group. If you have any questions, I'd suggest communicating with the guilds directly. English speaking ones that will help you are Lys Noire, Twilight Dawn and Bastard Sons.

There are a few larps that have a very similar experience to Bicolline. Conquest and Drachenfest hold annual events. If you do manage to get to this side of the ocean, Bicolline allows players at any age to attend. However, there is an age restriction on participating in the actual battles.

Izaak's adventure I went to my first Empire event a couple years ago when I was 16. It was amazing, and just as much fun for the kids as well as adults. There’s also a lot of different play options for different age ranges: 15 + is considered ‘adult’ (although not entirely until you’re 18 or so), and there are various other options to make sure you are comfortable in play :)
Do you fly to Montreal? My hubby and I are trying to figure out baggage allowances for next year, we will be bringing 2 little fauns as well as us 2 warriors lol
I've only flown in once. I checked what was allowed on the airline's website and figured out that I should just put everything in a box. That ended up meaning they had to open it with my there when I checked the box and picked it up. An alternative to this is coordinating with Bico and getting luggage shipped to the Bico property. You have it sent to the address and add the name of the guild to the shipping logo. :)

Look up groups in your area. A good google search, facebook post or the larping.org larp list might turn up some results in your area. Once you find a group that meets what you would be interested in playing, reach out to them! Get involved with the community, their events and open up with questions. :)
What is the bathroom options and what disposal options are there if you happen to be on your period while there?
They have a few options, mostly people bathe in the river, however for that time of the month, I'd suggest using the showers. You can buy a shower card at the event and use the restrooms in there as well. However there are porta potties in old town and new town for quick use. I have gone to Bicolline during that special time and felt pretty good about cleaning options. However I may be a little more used to rustic camps then most people. A side note, if you run out of supplies, there is a indecorum store that sells the essentials. Let me know if you have any more questions!
how many people live in one tent?
With TVN they usually put three people in a tent together. Some people rent private tents and sometimes they put 4 people in the larger ones.
