My mexican black kingsnake, Frankie no hands, has not yet taken a bite out of me or the vet whenever i bring him there for a checkup. I have had him for 5 years and he is a big derp lol nice video, would recommend kingsnakes for first time snake owners.
Can confirm they will try to eat you. I used to keep California kingsnakes and got munched on numerous times. Fortunately it doesn't really hurt and they usually let go once they realize you aren't really food after all, they're still wonderful creatures to keep as long as you aren't shy about a little nibble!
Had my 1st snake bite today and it was a cal king. The bite itself did not hurt one bit (and this guy had it's mouth around my WHOLE THUMB). It didn't come off with getting water splashed on it's face, so someone had to get it off me with a credit card. That hurt a wee bit, but it was by no means unbearable.
EpicRaptorMan “Domestic House Rock, The Best Pet Mineral Lump?” Personally though, I prefer the Quartz species (specifically of the rose or smoky morphs) because they have a beautiful gem-like design while keeping the same care routine and personality of the DHR, but DHRs are absolutely wonderful pets too 👍
Disco Dog Quartz is great for sure-I’ve owned a large crystal since I was little and it’s still going strong-but I have to admit the Granite species has grown on me recently. They’re not quite as crystalline and flashy, but the amount of morphs they come in is pretty impressive. They’re also not too sharp, so handling is a breeze assuming your specimen is small enough!
I made a cactus terrarium. Two of the catcues are dying ;-; they other four are doing great. I hope its just them adjusting sicne i transplanted them and they jump back.
Definitely the best pet snake! Had one named Kingsley, lost him, got out of his enclosure and found him a year later outside the house. Friendly as ever.
Mine is gentle. Hangs out on my lap while I watch tv. Eats out of my hand and has never tried to bite anyone. As a juvenile though he was flighty. I lost sight of him for a second while I was washing my bathtub and found him in the basement 3 months later. Since then he never goes very far (Probably recognizes me as the food giver) but I am still more careful. His name is.... Snake.
I have a friend with a Mexican Kingsnake thats pretty similar. His got out and he didnt find it until over a year later. It was just came up onto his bed while he was sitting there watching TV. The only problem is that it got use to live food and has refused to eat frozen ever since.
I put my kingsnake's food in his enclosure while he is out exploring. I was warned by his previous owner that he was very food aggressive. She also said she had a hard time getting him off her daughter. The pet store he originally came from hated him. I got him when he was 3 and he has been an absolute angel so far. I've had him several months and I love him
@@meowpurrr my favorite all time is sistrurus catenatus. Eastern massasauga rattkesnake. Little viper, my fave because its in my area and theyre very misunderstood.
Kingsnake's are my favorite. I have 2, an albino Cali King and a Gray Banded Kingsnake. No issues with them trying to eat me. They will try to eat the first thing that comes in the cage, but I just make sure it's never my hand. I usually just put the snake hook and wiggle in front of them to let them know it's not feeding time. And then I take them out and they're great.
I found a baby kingsnake in our pigeon loft. It was most calm and friendly baby I've ever handled. After a week, I let her go. I felt I could not give her a better life than what nature could give her.
New comment on old video, but just figured it'd be good info to add: All the 'getula complex' kingsnakes (MBK, Cali, Desert, Speckled, Eastern, Florida) (scare quotes because pretty sure getula complex is an outdated term) are going to score about the same on Clint's scale, with the main variation being availability and maybe upfront cost with trendy ones like MBKs. Some get slightly bigger than others but still in the 'nice size' range of under 6ft, all have similar food response, exact husbandry parameters vary a tiny bit but equally easy, all are very hardy and tough and share a laid-back demeanor as adults. So if you're looking into a speckled or eastern king, this video applies for sure! If looking into a desert king, they're more closely related to MBKs so see that video. But honestly, this video applies to MBKs as well, which are also close relatives (Desert, Cali and MBK all intergrade/hybridize in the wild where their ranges overlap, which is why you'll see MBKs with a faint Desert or Cali kingsnake pattern sometimes even in the pet trade).
Great video! I have one that's a shoelace right now. When we got him, people were calling him a "piano snake" because of his coloring. Being a pianist, that was the tipping point for me to get one! Ambiorix is such a great snake and honestly far less bitey than my corn of the same age, Amduat. Plus they're very active.
I recently got a Cali Kingsnake, and he is awesome! He definitely loves eating (my hand too), but he is starting to figure it out. Most of the time he won’t bite me, but even if he does it’s not the type of bite most people think of when it comes to snakes. It’s very gentle and doesn’t hurt (he also isn’t a striker or anything, so it’s very slow, almost like a test nibble). I love how he is not afraid of anything and is very calm anytime I handle him. They are absolutely BEAUTIFUL too. They are definitely kings and they know it!
@@ClintsReptiles I didn't realize that this was the reason there isn't a BRB video yet. I would love to see a video on them in the future but I definitely appreciate that you're waiting to find one that is in good condition to showcase for us!
As much as I love a kingsnake, I can't deal with them trying to eat me so I'm sticking with ball pythons for now 😄 Lovely to see PhD on your intro now too.
That's so funny that you say that. I don't have any pet snakes (yet), and while I adore ball pythons, I've heard they can be notoriously picky eaters, and that's my biggest hesitation about getting one. I think I'd rather have a snake that might get a little overzealous about food and try to eat me from time to time than worry about a snake not wanting to eat. However, the ball python's personality/handleability can't be beat. They've got to be the cutest and sweetest snakes around.
I raised mine from a juvenile and she is tame. She went thru a phase in the beginning where she false stuck at me when i reached for her but after a month she became very docile.
My first snake was a lavender albino kingsnake and he has made me truly appreciate my ball python. It’s nice not to try to get eaten every time I handle, but I’m glad I got him first
I'm picking up a California king snake as my first snake. You helped me with my first 6 reptiles. I got 2 Leo's, 2 cresties, an AFT and a Gargoyle Gecko. Your videos were all so helpful in helping me learn about my future pets. I'm super excited for this to be my first snake.
I'm not much of a snake guy but as it happened, I was on my way to pick up a rainbow python. I walked past this brooks king snake and fell in love. I bought her and couldn't be any happier. I love my wonderful snake and I'm amazed at how much personality she has
I have to say I got my first reptile a few months ago, he is a Florida Kingsnake and the best little guy ever. And your channel was a big part of me getting into reptiles, so thank you.
@@Cramercy While they don't all get that big, the definitely can! And generally speaking, female snakes tend to get larger than males. My girl is ~12 years old now and about 5 ft
My first snake was a California banded kingsnake, and he did pretty much everything that you described. One time he'd actually swallowed his tail. so he looked like the Ouroborous.
Honestly the California kingsnake was my first choice! I love the coloration and how active they are. Plus as a newbie knowing your snake is going ALWAYS want to eat is beyond helpful. I got talked into a boa though 😂 mainly because I realized I was willing to make the long term commitment and I was already comfortable around larger animals. Thank you for another wonderful video!! Btw a pet rock I'd a good alternative as well!
It’s important to note how great personality can vary from snake to snake. My yearling California king is an absolute sweetheart. Never once has shown any defensive or hunger motivated biting.
I met a baby California King once. She was adorable. I held her and she was very curious and tried to slither up into my sleeve. Just overall adorable. And a beautiful, striking pattern. Unfortunately, she had to be rehomed when her owner’s no longer felt comfortable handling her as she reached adult size. Do your research, people! Make sure you know how big your pet will get.
Thanks, Clint & team. If I were to decide to purchase a reptile, it would almost surely be the California King Snake. I feel close to them, since, in the 70's, when I was in my 20's & always fascinated by snakes--but when information on them came from either direct experience, or from a zoology prof or from a library book, it wasn't always easy to identify a species of snake, especially if it lived outside of the bio-zone you were familiar with. So, one day, while crossing the mountains east to west toward the Pacific in Big Sur territory in California, on a rustic dirt road, my girlfriend & I were shocked to fall upon a tri colored serpent, just crossing the road, as it were. I braked & lept out of the car, determined to capture the snake, out of curiosity. But was it " Red & yellow kill a fellow", or "Red & -black, jump back jack", or some different rhyme? In the end, he slithered off, but not before I managed a couple of photos. So later on I learned that it was a case of "Red & black, venom lack". Live & learn--the friendly King Snake of California! Nevertheless I've learned, since then, to not trust at 100 % those old sayings, especially as pertains to the Coral Snake: because nature's surprising & always varying. What happens in California may not hold true in Nevada or Arizona, or eastern California, for that matter, or much further east where the coral snake predominates in the U.S. Thanks for your work, Clint, & those who work with you...
High feeding response makes easier and also on the biting once they get more mature they do get better. Spend a couple of years with one close by and they'll become climatized to you so are easier to handle and the biting becomes less. So less I kiss mine on the head every day without worry.
I never really thought of myself getting a snake. I am more into the lizards myself. But this video and California king snake completely changed my mind. I plan on getting one sometime in the future. Thank you Clint. P.s it's not that I didn't like snakes or was scared of them. I have always liked them, but none have peaked my interest as pets, until now.
Two weeks ago, I got a 5 month old male. He is black with a white stripe going down it and his belly is a light cream color. Overall, he's a pretty active and it's truly amazing to see the tunnels he makes.
That definitely explains why my science teacher, who was cool with us handling his very tame and sweet boas, was not okay with us handling his California King. It was such a neat snake too, but it really would have been bad if one of the students got bit!
Kingsnakes in general are just so awesome. I have a Florida and a high white/white sided California king and I think they are my favorite two snakes I've ever owned. Neither have bit me, they eat great, they are so docile and chill when handling... what's not to like about them?
I live in Georgia and corn snakes are illegal to keep due to DNR laws about native species. I ordered the California Kingsnake from LLL Reptiles almost exclusively because of the California in its name. She has been a fantastic first snake for my daughter and all of us. Nothing but high marks from me. Thanks for the video.
Very cool! Always eats very readily and despite handling about every week I've never been bitten since I got it about 6 months ago. Beautiful snake :) couldn't be happier
Argh you got me right in the feels Clint... My Cal King had to be put down last spring due to leukemia... She was such a sweet girl! Unlike most she never tried to eat me and she was a very good girl and I miss her a lot... She was not even 4 years old yet when she passed... RIP AURYN I miss you...
Loved this video! I'm adopting a gray banded king snake from Arrowhead reptile rescue tomorrow that I'm looking forward to! You should do a bearded dragon vs blue tongue skunk head to head.
My Cali King looks just like the video'd animal, and might be the most docile friendly animal on the planet, He comes to my classrooom and is held by 180 students and he's turned some kids afraid of snakes into appreciating them. he's never bitten nor showed aggression and just cruises around and hangs out. Love having him. Unlike most kings, he isn't a voracious eater, which may contribute to the lack of biting? IDK
I get to take one of these boys home from a rescue. My local pet store (they're awesome with reptiles!) Rescued 7 snakes. My boy is the only Cali kingsnake from the rescue. The whole lot got left in a garage for a month and abandoned. He's ~5 years old, he has a couple minor wounds on his back that are healing over, almost gone.
Just got a juvenile banded today from an acquaintance who didn’t have time to properly care and interact with him. I paid nothing and got him, his enclosure full of great clutter and a heat mat for him. He’s been named Betelgeuse and joins my collection of 17 reptiles, all rescues or rehomes. ☺️ I’m super excited to learn all about him.
The fact that these guys are escape artists and hungry snakes is no joke. My roommates cali kingsnake once escaped her enclosure, and made its way INTO my ball pythons enclosure and tried to eat it. I knew because the scales on the head of my ball python were scratched, and one scale had come off. Plus it had burrowed for the first time ever and was clearly very stressed. So yeah, be sure to make the enclosure as secure as you possibly can lol
Also, thank you to all of you that took the time to watch my dissertation defense and for your positive and encouraging feedback. It was stressful and your kind responses were really nice to see. I love you guys! th-cam.com/video/pzG0Q3O2RfE/w-d-xo.html
Kingsnakes are one of the first wild snake i ever caught. I never kept it but i catch them all the time and they’re extremely relaxed about being handled in my opinion
California Kingsnakes are beautiful! I don’t own one but I live in Arizona and they are very common in my neighborhood. I’ve even seen them in my backyard
I have had Jacqueline my California Speckled Kingsnake for 17 years now. When she was young she would rattle her tail(also defecate) but she grow older and much more manageable. Kingsnakes really are very good pets.
They are stunning snakes , great size snake , big but not too big , feisty and sassy snakes. That's why I ordered one tonight. I love cali king snakes.
Its interesting how you see their true colour being a brown instead of a true black thanks to that intense lighting in your studio. Normally they do look just perfectly jet black
I have an 11 month old Cali king. She is a little diva, very moody, very jumpy, very nippy, very quick. I'm hoping she'll get better as she grows and ages. I also have an 8 month old ball python, he's totally chill.
Hey Dr. Laidlaw! Congratulations on getting your PhD, I’m so happy for you, man! I love your work, I myself have a ball python, bearded dragon, and a plated lizard. I would eventually like to get more, such as a rainbow boa or a Chinese water lizard. I wish you all the best!
Had one of these as a kid. Very cuddly but also very mischievous! quite the escape artist, wrapped himself around my mom's purse once and gave her quite a scare LOL. Only bit me once and it was really my fault; he was moody right after a shed and I should have let him be! I've seen them in the wild twice. just beautiful. Love these guys - instant nostalgia
Old video, but I wanted to say I think the "may eat you" is an individual thing. The first snake I ever purchased in 1987 was a CA kingsnake, followed by a FL kingsnake. Both were chill, very easy to handle, never trying to eat me. As this was the late 80s, they were likely wild caught as well. Those two are my absolute favorite of the kingsnakes and I had a great experience with both. Maybe it was just luck. Nice video, as always.
Ive had 2 cal kings now and never once have been bitten, so my experience i guess does not line up with the handibility portion of the video but everything else was right on.
My mom just got me one. I've had him 5 days and I love him. James is my baby and he's yet to bite and that's good but at least I can be more informed thanks to Clint.
To date out of about 30 Ca. king snakes I've caught, I have only had 1 try to eat me. I was removing that one from my coop and what he thought of as his meal, to I probably deserved it. As a kid playing with my friends, I loved finding these snakes to show my friends until I released em because they had such a good temperament. I have always released the snakes I caught w/ the exception of the rattlers, who came back when I relocated them.
@@ClintsReptiles I couldn't tell you, there are way more ravenous snakes out there that very experienced keepers own lol. I have a Cali kingsnake myself and there ARE worse biters out there for sure 😄
For sure. I'm certainly not saying they are the bitiest snakes in the world. They aren't, not by a long way. But are they likely to bite you? Yes, yes they are.
My favorite snake hands down. Maybe I've been lucky but out of my three cali kings only one ever bit me and it was because she was startled. Great feeding response but never tried to eat me or themselves.
I just bought a baby a few weeks ago and he's so unbearably charming. I named him Beetlejuice. He's getting used to his enclosure and I was watching him yesterday - he was sitting in his coconut popping his little head out and peeking around like a garden eel or tiny periscope 😂 He's funny and curious - he dove into his aspen on one side of his enclosure and then a moment later travelled to the other end and suddenly popped out of the top hole of his coconut. It was so cute I practically screamed 😂 I love him! My boyfriend said we should probably plug the holes on top of the coconut cause they can get stuck as they become chonkier 😂
Forgot to add - I only paid $20 for him because they forgot to charge us so we went back and told the manager so eventhough he was already only $40 because of covid-19, he chargesd us only $20 😻
These guys really are awesome, I have a desert aberrant and she is so much fun to handle! I love her coloration with the yellow against the black, it's so gorgeous.
I have a Florida king snake and she is absolutely amazing. so sweet and curious, never skips a meal but also doesn't bite, she actively seeks me out and will come back to me if she is free roaming or if she's being held by someone she isn't interested in. she's such a good girl my mom is even warming up to her and she is terrified of snakes. also she's bright orange, yellow and black so she's so pretty. 10/10 I love her with all my bones.
I own a baby wild caught king. Her name is queen. One thing to note about kings is that they’re very smart snakes. They’re escape artists. This one hasn’t tried because I have treated her very well but kings that feel even a little uncomfortable will begin to try to open the cage. I still HIGHLY recommend this species, especially for beginners.
Also substrate isn’t good. Use bio carpet. Highly reusable. Just hose them off and let them dry and you’re good. It doesn’t irritate their skin either. Substrate can turn toxic if waste is left for too long. It’s also rather expensive and difficult to replace.
If you caught her recently, please release her. It’s not fair to the snake to keep her. And king snakes absolutely need substrate to thrive. It’s very important to give them a substrate they can burrow in. Carpet is not suitable for any reptile. It harbours bacteria, cannot be cleaned properly, and doesn’t offer any burrowing enrichment whatsoever.
Had ours for like...15 years so far. Fell im love with him at the pet store and after a year of being obsessed with him my parents let me get him. He is stupid and smart at the same time hes very aware and attentive and liked to be talked to. He's only bitten me during feeding, it didn't even hurt. He escaped for a year and we found him again. He used to have a couple scars from escaping in the pet store and trying to eat the rats. He's tried to eat himself twice. Can't really handle him i didn't do the best job as a teen of getting him used to being held because i was afraid of hurting him but he's very chill and easy to hang out with through the tank. He was like a foot long when we got him but he's probably over 3 feet now.
I had a Cali King and he was awesome. Never tried to bite me. He was so calm i agreed to give him to a friend who had an autistic son who was always fascinated with him. I wouldn't have given the snake to them if I didn't know it would all work out.
I have an albino California Kingsnake and he’s the best snake I’ve ever interacted with. He is so sweet, he’s never been aggressive to me or bitten me, and is so chill and easy to handle. My ball python and corn snake are both more aggressive than he is. I’ve been bitten more often by my ball python.
I had a Florida Kingsnake. Idk if this holds true to other kingsnakes, but ill add my florida king snake gave birth after over 2 years of me owning her and never housing her with a mate. Apparently they dont need a mate, they can fertilize themselves. Also theyre viviparious, so they dont lay eggs, they have live birth. I found out when i came home from the movies and there were 9 baby kingsnakes in the enclosure with the mom. Theyre adorable but not everyone is ready for that 😂. So lookout if you buy a female kingsnake, as you might encounter that too. I had a male cali kingsnake when i was younger and owned him for over 7-10 years and he was amazing, never bit anyone, never a problem other than he liked to escape from whatever enclosure we put him in (hed always climb downstairs to the same spot in the basement so we found him very easily every time) kingsnakes are an amazing pet, just know a female might have a random birth on you.
As a kid growing up in California, I had several Kingsnakes as well as Gopher snakes, that I had I admit caught wild, I never really kept any of them for very long, with the exception of 2, one King I held onto for close to 3 years, but finally let go when we moved into town from the surrounding hills, and one Gopher who I released after 2 years for the same reason, though not at the same time. Of 20 or so wild Kingsnakes I caught, only 2 ever bit me, and they were both very young, the same with Gophersnakes, with the exception of one adult who bit when first caught because the suddenness of the capture initially freaked it out, by the end of that same day however I could ride my bike around the neighborhood with the snake wrapped around my neck, I did this with all the Kingsnakes and Gophersnakes I had and they never squeezed to tight they just held on enough to hold on without falling off and they didnt try to climb around as long as we were on the bike. One Gophersnake I had who was very easy to handle from the first moment of capture never tried to bite anyone except my friend Johnny, for some reason he did not like Johnny and would try to bite him every time he was around, even launching himself off of my arm to try and get him! He never did this with anyone else and seemed to adore my mother who would watch T.V. after dinner with him curled up in her lap. None of them were difficult to feed, most eating the first or 2nd day with only one taking about 5 days before eating. Many of my friends growing up who captured these same species had pretty much the same results, and of the two it was the Gophersnakes that were usually a little more aggressive especially the young ones. They both tamed down easily and quickly and seemed to enjoy the interaction they had with humans.
hey clint, i absolutely love your videos! i was wondering if you ever planned to do an episode on steppe runners? i just learned about them, and i'd love for you to cover them! more agamids and other medium sized lizards in general would be much appreciated 💕
I can’t wait to get my first snake, I’ve been debating on getting one for a while. But I saw a beautiful albino one that’s purple and white at a local pet shop and I’m convinced now more than ever I want to get one
i had one of these for about 5 years starting at age 11. very easy to care for and forgiving as i learned how to care for snakes. did wonder what i was doing wrong to get bit so much lol felt very vindicated that you mentioned getting bit twice before you were even a minute and a half in.
That banded pattern is so striking during the day but so effective as camouflage at night within the shadows and moonlight. And the willingness to eat you is no joke. Mine (Steve) tries every time lol. You have to keep your fingers away from his head. But he is hilarious. I've never seen a snake with so much personality. Grills me every day for food.
It's funny that people shy away from snakes because there might be an occasional nibble, but don't hesitate to get a cat -- which will also (likely) bite you regularly AND scratch you too. Lol
Can confirm. Received more bites from the cat I'm fostering in the past week than I had from two kingsnakes over the course of several years. The second snake was an a-hole, too, so that tells you something!

Honestly in my opinion THE MOST underrated snake! So easy and beautiful, not to mention great eaters. Plus their personalities are amazing!
Can we get a "best pet snake" video on the false water cobra please?
Yes, I'm just getting a bit more size on mine first.
Those and mangroves are beautiful snakes
@@mikeashawasegai7530 yes! Boiga dendrophilia gemincincter (black mangrove) has to be in my top 10 faves
Your channel must be like the only channel on TH-cam whose comment section is 100% Troll free. Love it.
Are they quick biters, like pythons, or are they slower like a lazy nom nom nom?
Could you please make a video on African House Snakes? They are so underestimated and underrepresented.
Random yes! That would be an awesome video! I can’t wait for his monitor lizard video
They are definitely kings and they know it!
i bought a baby California king snake and hes the sweetest little thing ever so nice and docile and always lets me hold him.
I have been waiting for you to make a video about the California Kingsnakes!!!! YOU"RE AWESOME!
Can you do a video on brazilian rainbow boas?
I just need to find a healthy adult.
@@ClintsReptiles yes I would love to see this too as I'm considering getting one in the future.
Hydration is key!!!!!!
Bartata I would really love this as well. I currently have a baby and have been hoping for a video from Clint on them.
She went thru a phase in the beginning where she false stuck at me when i reached for her but after a month she became very docile.
i mean my guy has never tried to bite me so i really think that depends completely on the individual snake
From what I’ve seen pythons get pretty long especially thick
Ball pythons are picky eaters and boring. Unlike kings and othe colubrides who are very active
Wow, prefect timing, I’m looking at buying a Kingsnake right now! Thanks for the informative video, you made my decisions a lot more easy!
That's why this channel exists.
I've had mine since she was a shoelace and I love her to bits, she's 8 now and 6ft long. I wouldn't part with her despite her 'personality' 😅
Alissia Rispin I don’t think they get that big especially as a female
@@Cramercy I managed to measure her on the rare occasion she was straight enough and she really is, she just needs to get fatter now 😊
Ryan Cramer whilst not every one does, a Cali king can definitely get to that size.
@@ruedestrae8199 Thank you!
@@Cramercy While they don't all get that big, the definitely can! And generally speaking, female snakes tend to get larger than males. My girl is ~12 years old now and about 5 ft
These new thumbnails keep getting better!!
Thank you! Will's really killing it.
I feel close to them, since, in the 70's, when I was in my 20's & always fascinated by snakes--but when information on them came from either direct experience, or from a zoology prof or from a library book, it wasn't always easy to identify a species of snake, especially if it lived outside of the
bio-zone you were familiar with.
“Red on black is Fun for Jack!”
My mum is like
“Are you sure he is a good source of information for u?”
Me:
“Just look at how cool he is and his intro says he has a PhD “
High feeding response makes easier and also on the biting once they get more mature they do get better. Spend a couple of years with one close by and they'll become climatized to you so are easier to handle and the biting becomes less. So less I kiss mine on the head every day without worry.
So happy to see this video! I saw a wild California king a few weeks ago and it sparked my curiosity!
I love king snakes they're just a lot of things to love about kingsnakes in general
Kingsnakes in general are just so awesome. I have a Florida and a high white/white sided California king and I think they are my favorite two snakes I've ever owned. Neither have bit me, they eat great, they are so docile and chill when handling... what's not to like about them?
It's so nice to see a vid for this snake! Especially seeing another Striped CK, just like my little buddy Zeus!
They're very cool.
Yaaay! Kingsnake episode!
I have a Desert Kingsnake named Elvis, (looks very similar to the Cali King, care essentially the same too)
They're cool
I'm so sorry to hear that.
Loved this video! I'm adopting a gray banded king snake from Arrowhead reptile rescue tomorrow that I'm looking forward to! You should do a bearded dragon vs blue tongue skunk head to head.
that is so cool arrowhead reptile rescue is super close to my town
I have one and I love Cal Kings! It's my first snake too. Really easy to take care of
Was my first snake, loved her to bits!
Clint I think I saw just a tiny bit of shed on it's tail tip. Very beautiful snake! Congratulations on the Ph.D also!
I didnt get a notification but finally a video on my first and only (so far) pet reptile. edit actually my third I have 2 turtles as well

Kingsnakes are one of the first wild snake i ever caught. I never kept it but i catch them all the time and they’re extremely relaxed about being handled in my opinion
Kingsnakes are so cool! I can't wait for you to do a video on the Flordia Kingsnake because they are such a good species 👌
Agreed. They rock!
The various morphs of Kingsnake are very colorful and wide ranging marking. My personal favs are the Albinos 😊
This channel and snake discovery inspired me to get my snake, three years ago
Hey Dr. Laidlaw! Congratulations on getting your PhD, I’m so happy for you, man! I love your work, I myself have a ball python, bearded dragon, and a plated lizard. I would eventually like to get more, such as a rainbow boa or a Chinese water lizard. I wish you all the best!
I love the black and white banding on theses guys
I am completely in love with kingsnakes, especially mexican blacks, grey bandeds and carifornia kings
It tends not to be a defensive bite, but a feeding response. A fresh caught snake is unlikely to try to eat.
I adore your Kermit voice it's very relaxing and approachable
Why are there so many, videos about kingsnakes, and why they might eat your hands?
@@ClintsReptiles I couldn't tell you, there are way more ravenous snakes out there that very experienced keepers own lol. I have a Cali kingsnake myself and there ARE worse biters out there for sure 😄
For sure. I'm certainly not saying they are the bitiest snakes in the world. They aren't, not by a long way. But are they likely to bite you? Yes, yes they are.
Im so confused

Thank you. It is a time full of few certainties, but many wonderful possibilities.
I have found these in my town. Paradise CA. They are spectacular looking
These guys really are awesome, I have a desert aberrant and she is so much fun to handle! I love her coloration with the yellow against the black, it's so gorgeous.
Such neat snakes.
Lucky! My baby FL King snake hates me. She won't stop hissing, striking and rattling her tail.
Surprisingly chill in the wild too.
Can you do an episode on the Hogg Island Boa Constrictor?
I'll see what I can do.
Can you do a video on a children’s python please? 🐍An love the videos keep them coming 👌
Maybe do a video on the Florida Kingsnake! They’re hands down my favorite snakes!
Oh I’ve been hoping for this one! This is one of the snakes I would love to keep or have be my first snake.
Thank you for making this AMAZING video of this AMAZING snake!
Excellent video Dr. Laidlaw
