How to Get to Japan's Most Magical Island:
We all flew into KAGOSHIMA AIRPORT and took a bus to the ferry port (1 hour). From there, we took the 2 hour high speed ferry for $90 to Yakushima and then another bus to Anbo. I'd definitely recommend bringing an international drivers license and renting a car to get around more efficiently.

    -Torokino Falls

So much stuff can be done without a car but the small islands are so much better with a rental.

Agreed! This was one of the only places I went where I feel like public transport would really hold me back!

Yoron Jima and Miyako Jima definitely I suggest a car 100%. So small and you can drive around and find quiet little beaches. We bought snorkels and saw sharks, turtles, and tons of fish walking right off the beach.

Can you PLEASE tell us of the most efficient Yakushima itinerary WITHOUT A CAR? I'm in Kagoshima now but am seriously considering NOT going to Yakushima because of no car. I really want to go though...
