  • This video features a portion of a conversation between Tim Keller and NBC journalist Martin Bashir. The topic of conversation is belief in God. One question raised, among many, is whether belief is a matter of reason or purely a matter of faith. They also get into whether or not one's motivation to believe in God impacts belief as well as discussing a few topics surrounding religious pluralism. Enjoy!

Keller was wrong with this> God wants all men to be saved first Timothy 2:4, second peter 3:9!
God, predestines groups or plurals only, never individuals. Ephesians 1 -2 points: “ us and we” are pre-destined never “you and I“! And 11 times in 11 verses from 3-14 you have to remain “in Christ“ (in him, in whom) to be predestined!
Romans 9:1-3 Paul is talking about the nation of Israel, all the way to the end of chapter 11 ! So, “Jacob, I loved, Esau I hated“ is genesis 25:23 “there are two nations in your womb“! It’s talking about ‘Nations,’ not individuals in the whole context of those three chapters! Stop taking it out of context, along with Ephesians 1!
Of course, we have the story of Jacob and Esau and how Esau despised his birthright !
So God truly does love all people, he truly did make hell for the devil and his angels just as Matthew 25:41 says !
Even the 42 youths, mauled by the 2 bears, was because they mocked Elijah‘s rapture, a.k.a. the resurrection , they were saying “go on up Baldy “ ; and ALL their prophets just recently Were killed by Elijah and they should’ve known to stop worshiping Baal! Bethel was the headquarters of Baal worship, where this took place! 490 priests got killed by Elijah, There was no Priests around,; should’ve been a gigantic clue.
So God never arbitrarily and haphazardly deals with any human being ! His love cannot be measured says Romans 8!
But if you’re a Calvinist, it’s “his love cannot be measured , (Wink, wink)“!
Come out of the false belief system of Calvinism ! Now you have no excuse because you cannot out argue this, let’s hear you try!
Read Matthew 25 the parable of the Calvinists, a.k.a. talents ! Where the guy buried his talent calling God,- somebody who doesn’t judge rightly & he was thrown into hell as a result! He had the wrong view of God, & So Will a Calvinist, they’ll have a callous view of God & The love of Christs sacrificial death on the cross!

Matter and energy cannot be created nor destroyed, therefore no matter nor energy would’ve existed to do the causing. Consequently, whatever did cause the universe to exist, would need to be immaterial and exist beyond time and space! Genesis 1: 1 God creates time space and matter!
The KILLER is, Entropy! Entropy is somewhat opposite of evolution and why did this come into the universe if everything’s getting better? Genesis 2:17 says death came into the universe through the first sin!
First two chapters of the Bible not the 500th chapter or the thousandth chapter; explain what evolutionists have not explained; and no other worldview comes close to the Bible, in explaining it! The first two laws of thermodynamics!
So the Bible explains how matter, space, time, entropy, and energy get here!
DNA does not auto encrypt, it did not write itself the code writer is outside of the code. 3300 billion lines of computer code in 1 humans DNA, would fill the Grand Canyon 50 times of Books, let alone plant and animal DNA and it did not write itself! One person‘s DNA could stretch to the sun and back 61 times! Psalm 139:16 “in my members you have written many books“.
John 21:25 “I suppose everything Jesus did the world will not have enough room for the Books, telling of it“!
God made matter and energy, a.k.a., the first law of thermodynamics and DNA, pointing to himself; pointing to an outside source beyond the realm of the universe; that these things were made there!
Job 38:35 “were you there when I created the lightnings and they say ‘here we are!”’ This is God talking to Job!
3300 years later, James Maxwell discovers that light rays and electricity are two forms of the same thing!

@@repelsteeltje310we are made in the image and likeness of God that’s why it’s rational to believe.
Creation itself speaks of a creator. It’s more reasonable to believe that something outside of space, time, and matter (God) created the universe (big bang) than to believe the universe derived from nothing.
Also, higher concepts such as mathematics, science, and morality point towards creation as opposed to chance.
The Bible says that in the beginning God created the universe and made man in His image and likeness. God is the alpha and omega (first and last), beginning and the end.
Ultimately though, it’s a moral and authority issue. Jesus is the word of God became became flesh. He gave us the blueprint. Once we accept God’s ways and reject our own, is when life truly begins.
      Peace to you.

We can challenge the witnesses of the past but the Bible also makes predictions about the future and I always like to mention one that is close enough for you to witness first hand.
The 2,000 year old book of Revelation says the day is coming when you'll have to have a 'mark' in your right hand or your forehead in order to buy or sell.
In the 70's I thought people would have to be branded like cattle. In my mind I pictured a mob of zombies. The technology wasn't invented yet. Today it's clearer.
When the globalists talk about the 'great reset' it means they plan to collapse the global economy and replace cash with a digital monetary system. A bio metric device or implant will allow you to tap your hand or scan your forehead.
The problem in a digital system is that you will be tracked so you'll have to obey the elites or they'll turn your account off. You've heard about 'smart cities'. Digital tracking is how they'll keep you within a specified radius of where you live.

I was an atheist, when I was younger and didn’t really know much about science or religion, but it seemed like the easiest thing to believe, it also went along great with the counter culture that I hung around with. Basically it was easy and convenient. It doesn’t take much brain power to be an atheist. But I decided to actually go learn as much as I could about the world. Math science psychology philosophy, all the major religions, and eventually became a self proclaimed agnostic/existentialist. I did the deep dive into Christianity last…and it’s by far the hardest. And the hardest part is being honest with yourself. Pride. But when/if you are honest with yourself, the Bible is clearly correct. It’s obvious. Which is why you fight against it so hard to begin with. Because it’s a fight with Truth. Like real actual truth. Not subjective truth. But the miracle happened after I believed. And I didn’t consider it belief, I knew. On December 31st 2019 I met an angel. I saw it with my own eyes. I wasn’t on any kind of medication or drugs or anything like that. And I know that that’s not something that’s going to happen for everyone. You get to see the proof of Gods existence with your own eyes. It’s what everyone wants. But had I not done my due diligence and searched and then believed in the first place, that miracle would not have happened. But I just think it’s funny when these professors claim “there is no way to prove…” There absolutely is. It just hasn’t been proven to you. And that’s your own fault. Anyway, that’s my Ted Talk 😅❤

"I did the deep dive into Christianity"
Then you must know that the bible is not "clearly correct."
The first 5 books of the Bible were written between 600 B.C. and 400 B.C. The earliest Hebrew writing of any kind is from about 1,000 B.C.
Artifacts from ancient societies reveal versions of bible stories that are much older than the Hebrew people and their holy texts. The Sumerian flood story is 1,000 to 1,200 years older than the story of Noah. The Epic of Gilgamesh, which may be as old as 2150 B.C. has a great flood story with a hero named Utnapishtim. A Babylonian cuneiform tablet, found in southern Iraq and dating to the 1600s B.C. describes how the god Enki instructs Atrahasis to build a boat and save himself and all the animals before the god Enlil obliterates the human race. It is 400 years older than the Hebrew people and 1,000 years older than the book of Genesis. It can be found at the British Museum in London.
The story of Moses set adrift in a basket originated in the myth of King Sargon of Agade in 2,800 B.C. Myths far older than the Hebrews concerning man being formed from clay are found in Babylonia, Egypt, Greece, Asia, Africa, and the Pacific islands.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. The bible is not true. it's a hodgepodge of fables, myths, and religious texts from centuries before your bible existed.
In the Persian story, God created the world in six days, a man called Adama, a woman called Evah, and then rested. The Etruscan, Babylonian, Phoenician, Chaldean, and Egyptian stories are much the same. The Persians, Greeks, and Egyptians had their Garden of Eden and the Tree of Life. The Persians, Babylonians, and Nubians, all had the story of the fall of man and the subtle serpent. The Chinese account says that sin came into the world by the disobedience of a woman. Even the scriptures of the Tahitians tell us that man was created from the earth, and the first woman from one of his bones.
All long before your bible existed.

You also didn't bother to study the history of Christianity, or the bible. You're "deep dive" consisted only of reading the bible. What you have is a faith in Christianity, not a knowledge of Christianity.
Thinking that you actually met an angel is kind of a "You problem." At least you had the honesty to admit that "had I not believed in the first place, that miracle would not have happened."
"The light of faith makes us see what we believe."
      Saint Thomas Aquinas
      Whether God Exists (1270)
Being "honest with yourself" would be to consider all the facts regardless of your faith. Instead you say: "None of that really matters. Remember God calls the very few and the others will not understand or accept even if you say I believe . You must be born again by the spirit of God to go to heaven. The Devil believes, and the Devil is not going to heaven. You must search God with all your heart and desire and you will find God.

I loved everything you said, except the rote statement about being born again. I see it as confusing to non believers, and sort of a lie, if you compare the way Jesus describes it, and the apostles description of it.
By the apostles, it's metaphorical, spiritualism, as in, a new creature, but the word creature to clarify a mortal creature, thus, converted, changed, enlightenment. By the word of Christ, he had to re explain flesh (us), is flesh, and flesh cannot enter, thus we have to actually be born from flesh to immortal spirit to enter.
So, you can get away with the confusing spiritualism of the term "born again", all you like, but please don't do it in front of non believers, without the truth from the truth. You must be born again as an immortal spirit to enter the kingdom, as flesh cannot enter, neither spiritualism, only those born again as immortal spirits. The words of the savior I discovered, are so much better than apostles though they be ordained. Thank you.

We all utilize faith every day. When you drive, you have faith that you will arrive at your destination safely. When you cross a bridge, you have faith that the bridge won’t collapse. Wrong. You'd have to completely ignore reality to believe there's exactly a 0% chance of you failing to arrive at your destination when you drive. The data shows there's a small chance you'll be in a crash (or various other reasons why your car might not arrive at the destination; heart attack; out of gas; etc).
In fact no sensible person should ever have faith on any topic, except the existence of our own mind (because faith means complete confidence, and the only topic where that's justified is our own mind's existence). Also it should always be strange to theists that they're constantly steering conversation away from the actual religion-related definition of "faith" ('belief in a god based on spiritual apprehension rather than proof'). It should be stranger that theists ever bother posting anything other than strong, logical evidence of a god (after all, if we had good reason to believe, we'd have evidence like that. But gosh...we don't have that, do we?)

My take is that the scientific revolution (while not philosophically new imho) did through the likes of godly men like Kepler, Bacon, and Newton give humans permission to practice science over the material realm based on -i will just give- two axioms: God is immutible, so maybe His creation can be assumed so; and man has faculties like tool making and reason, so we can increase our body of knowledge via science. Then the later trajectory of 'enlightenment' was man saying, we take your axioms without the God factor, which overemphasized man in those axioms and reduced 'evidence' down to the material. People often don't get exposed to or understand some basic philosophical principles or even know that there is a philosophy of science that 'permits' science to be a thing with a limited scope.

Human beings naturally and instinctively recognize AGENCY.
It has been demonstrated that babies as young as 6 months old can grasp the concept of "agency" behind events and differentiate between agency and the "objects" it interacts with. That means a baby at 6 months is able to distinguish between a harm done to it by a person and therfore "on purpose," and a harm inflicted by an object that simply "happens to" it and therefore reacts differently to the harm. If the baby determines that the actions of an agent -- a parent or other human interacting with it -- caused a hard ball to be dropped on its' head, it will react not just with tears, but with anger and resentment. Whereas if that same ball slips off a shelf and hits it on the head, the baby will merely cry. It does not hold the ball or the shelf responsible - having intent - and therefore accountable - receiving anger, resentment, and maybe one day, revenge - for it's pain.
We look at the stars and accept that an astronomer can calculate their movements over millions of years, therefore, they are objects. But then we look BEHIND and BEYOND the stars and see the intelligence of an AGENT in the DESIGN of their movements!
God is so obvious, a 6 month old can see him!

God is not obvious. I look at the stars and see nature. A never ending process that unfolds latent potential into actual existence.

He is if you are actually seeking him.
But don’t worry your atheist head about God. He doesn’t exist so don’t waste your time.
But that raises a question … Why are you here? Wasting your time?
When my brothers told me Santa wasn’t real when I was 6 I stopped sitting on his lap at Sears I never wrote him letters and I always gave my Christmas Lists to my parents - and it was about as effective as sending it to Santa Claus, to be honest.
I also never told a single other child who believed that Santa wasn’t real. Why would I?Whether they believed in Santa was their parents’ business. If believing friends began talking about Santa, I left. Not to be rude but because I was bored. What was there point? Santa wasn’t real so why expend the energy? The reason I stopped thinking about Santa Claus at the age of 6 was because his non-existence made him IRRELEVANT.
Yet here you are. My guess is you can’t leave the idea of God alone. Theist talking to atheists makes perfect sense. It’s actually encouraged in holy writ.
Atheists talking to theists makes no sense. Why are you wasting your time?

Thank you for sharing and commenting on this interview. Bashur just shows how a foolish man, wise in his own eyes, who spews out word salad from other foolish men, and thinks he sounds intelligent. Who wants to look to look up to that kind of man? He is why we need JESUS. JESUS is the complete opposite, and why we can TRUST HIM, and it "mere men". 🙏
